Ubuntu Networking :: TI ACX111 Wireless Card Not Functioning In 10.04?

May 6, 2010

I installed 10.04 today, not having used this system for Ubuntu since 8.04. My wireless card (Texas Instruments ACX 111) worked perfectly in Windows XP and 7, and it worked on installation in 8.04.

I did a clean, full install of 10.04 (no dual boot or anything), but the wireless card is not working. The OS doesn't even seem to recognize that it is there because I can't even scan for networks, let alone connect.

The only reason I have a connection on this computer is because I am sharing the internet via ethernet from my Macbook.

Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi Suddenly Stopped Functioning, But Card Works?

I was uninstalling some programs through the package manager, then restarted. Ubuntu Networking :: Dell N4010 Wireless Is Not Functioning?

Sep 21, 2010

Dell N4010 and other brands with UBUNTU 10.04

Wireless need propriety drivers and will not function with out them being installed

And LAN port (wired RJ45 port) is not working too.

So what is the easy way to update these drivers.

Borrow someone else USB wireless adapter, that will work instantly with Ubuntu version you just installed.

[URL]

Then you can update on line via USB wireless adapters. I use WG111v2 to connect to dell 4010 to update other wireless drivers.

Ubuntu Networking :: BCM4306 (Rev. 2) (14e4:4320) - Wireless Not Functioning

May 8, 2011

I tried using b43-fwcutter in accordance with the Ubuntu Forums and nothing happened, and then I decided to look a little further. According to LinuxWireless.org, the BCM4306/2 actually uses the b43legacy drivers, so I purged all of b43-fwcutter along with firmware-b43-installer and downloaded firmware-b43legacy-installer.

$ sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43legacy-installer

Nothing happened, so I downloaded b43legacy manually per the instructions listed at LinuxWireless.com, and manually extracted from wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o to my /lib/firmware folder. Nothing happened again. I made sure to check additional drivers and nothing shows up.

As per the ticket posting instructions, I've included all the info you guys could need. from what I can conclude, the wireless isn't even ON, but it's integrated and I have NO IDEA what I have to do to get it up and running.

At least in OpenSuSE 11.3 LXDE I was able to get the wireless on, although I had some major connection issues, I guess it couldn't resolve the handshake completely, or take my SSID/PSK properly.

Here goes! (God bless 2>&1 | tee -a)

General :: Atheros Card Not Functioning Well Under WPA2?

Jun 28, 2011

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L25-S199, and it includes an Atheros wireless NIC based on the AR2413 chipset, I believe. Currently I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 on it, but I've previously had Xubuntu and Ubuntu, and this problem has always existed with WPA2.

Specifically, the LAN is a wireless WPA2 with AES encryption (no TKIP). The computer can connect to the network just fine, but the web is all but unusable; it is very finicky, mostly failing to fetch any pages, but sometimes succeeding (mostly with Google pages, and those from the local network's servers). Perhaps a DNS issue?

This problem doesn't occur with WEP or no encryption.

Here's the output of lspci

09:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)

And the relevant output of hwinfo

Ubuntu Multimedia :: XBMC Live Install Not Functioning - Video Card ?

Apr 24, 2010

I tried to run the XBMC live disc but could not fully boot. Each time I could only get to a command prompt after the XBMC splash screen with spinning circle. So I thought, "Maybe because my computer is sort of old (Pentium 4, 2.26 Ghz, 512 RAM) it doesn't like the XBMC Live disc. It will probably work if I install to the HDD." I installed it only to get the same result, XBMC splash screen then loading of command prompt. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is the computer compatible?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Internal SD Card Reader Not Functioning In 11.4 On HP 630 Laptop?

Sep 2, 2011

I'm running openSUSE 11.4 on an HP 630 laptop with KDE. Everything works fine but cards inserted into the internal SD card reader are not read, and from what I can tell the reader is not recognized at all by openSUSE on my system. The reader does not appear listed in hardware information and is not listed with the command fdisk -l . There appear to be no references at all to the reader. The reader is recognized, however, on a live USB of Linux Mint 11, where the model is listed as "Generic - xD/SD/M.S." (the vendor too), revision 1.00. It is listed as an SCSI Controller scsi5. Typing lsscsi in the termal of openSUSE provides the following:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: NVidia G92 - GeForce 8800 GT Graphics Card Is Not Fully Functioning

Jan 25, 2010

I already posted this message on another thread but I'd like to start a new thread with it now, and add a few more details. My son and I are having trouble getting the graphics card to work properly in his computer. The resolution is good, but the graphics card is not fully functioning. He works on animation and graphics of several kinds, and the graphics programs cannot run without a fully functioning graphics card.

The computer will not run Blender and other graphics programs. Nor will it even allow for the "normal" "Visual Effects" in the "Appearance Preferences." (It comes up with the error: "Desktop effects could not be enabled," after it tries to find the driver.) The system is:

Graphics Card: nVidia G92, GeForce 8800 GT
System: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, 2.6.31-17-generic, 4.4.1 (x86_64-linux-gnu)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (3 Gigs RAM)

We know the graphics card works because it works in Windows. (We set up the computer to boot off of either of two hard drives -- either in Windows XP or Ubuntu 9.10, karmic.) Neither my son nor I understand much of the terminology on your forums, although I have been using Ubuntu for some years and have read quite a bit. (I also have the "Beginning Ubuntu Linux" book.) I love Ubuntu, but sometimes I just cannot figure out how to get some things running. We have tried many different ways of installing the drivers and setting up the xorg.conf file. We have followed the instructions on this and other threads. We also installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-64-190.53-pkg2.run, as well as 173 and 185. The screen will only work at a proper resolution when we set the "Driver" to "nv" in the xorg.conf file. The screen goes completely blank and dead if we set the "Driver" to "nvidia." Then we need to reboot in safe mode and edit the xorg.conf file with VIM.

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Tenda W322P Wireless Card Crashing Wireless Router On Connect

Jun 30, 2011

I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.

Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.

Ubuntu Networking :: Eth0 On Mini 10 Not Functioning?

Apr 29, 2010

I installed the netbook remix of 9.10 on a Dell mini10. (Dual boot with XP) I knew that I would have to install the broadcom drivers to get the wireless up and running. What I didn't anticipate is that the eth0 interface would not work. ifconfig shows the device and lists the ip as a 192.xxx number. I am wired directly into our network, and expect an IP in the 10.10.etc range. Pings either return a host unreachable message or say network unreachable. This problem persists even if I set the card to a known good IP. ifdown eth0 returns a message that the interface is not configured. ifup returns a message that it is ignoring the interface. After fighting that problem for a while, I re-installed, thinking that perhaps something had gotten fouled up in the installation process. The problem persists. Nothing has changed.

Ubuntu :: Broken Internet 10.04 With Functioning Networking?

Apr 6, 2011

internet access is no longer working on my computer, ie wget, ping, apt-get update all return unkown host (url or whatever).

However the system monitor (Network History) shows that the system is sending and receiving packets. And what I think is network manager applet shows active network signals for both wireless and ethernet.

I know my laptop has not acquired hardware faults. Since I am posting this message and accessing the internet through the same computer with a Ubuntu live USB start up disk.

I searched through the forums for related posts and tried suggestions. Forinstance

the /etc/resolv.conf

file is the same for both live usb system and hard drive system, so it can not be that.

# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 79.138.0.180
nameserver 85.8.31.209
the /etc/network
interfaces file looks like:
code....

I tried the system test (System->Administration->System Test), with only Network tests selected). The results of system test were so extensive I searched for the word internet and extracted lines for internet. Interestingly it says both the network_test and the internet_test are _passed_.

But the internet does not work in either in web browsers or with BASH commands.

And also:

erlang-inets Erlang/OTP Internet clients and servers
python-twisted-bin Event-based framework for internet applications
python-twisted-core Event-based framework for internet applications
