View 5 RepliesI'm running Thunderbird/3.0.10 on Lucid 10.04, there does not seem to be a Lightning add on available for this version. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get this up and running?Otherwise I like 10.04 and intend to stick with it till the next LTS release as I need a stable desktop environment.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running lucid with Thunderbird 3.1.5 (32 bit) and trying to install Lightning 1.0b2. Whenever, I install Lightning, I cannot restart TB, if I drop it. No error message. I have to start TB from the Terminal with "thunderbird -safe-mode", remove Lightning, and then everything works. I read of others having problems with TB and Lightning, but most of these are 64 bit. I am 32 bit. Please note that I have removed all other extensions from TB, but I still can't run Lightning.
One concern I have is that even though Synaptic says that TB 3.1.5 is install, the Help>About says just TB 3.1. It doesn't include the ".5". I am concerned that despite what Synaptic says, I might not have version 3.1.5 installed. Is there any way to check if I really have version 3.1.5 installed? I tried to install the latest nightly build of Lightning, but I got the error message "Lightning 1.0b3pre could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.6.10". how to get Lightning to run with Thunderbird?
With the most recent upgrade of Thunderbird to 3.0.9 I was unable to find a 64-bit version of the lightning calendar plug-in. I tried compiling my own copy of thunderbird v3 from source (3.0.10pre) and it loaded into 3.0.9 perfectly! Rename the attached files to drop the last ".bz2" (files should end in ".00" and ".01") then combine both files with the command
Code:
cat lightning.tar.bz2.* >lightning.tar.bz2
If you want to try compiling your own copy instead, just read the websites quoted in the header to ensure you have all dependencies then simply run this batch file
Code:
#/bin/sh
#Compile Thunderbird c/w lightning
#script compiled from: https://developer.mozilla.org/index.php?title=en/Simple_Thunderbird_build&action=print

Have just installed Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64-bit - works fine. Using xul-ext-lightning (lightning 1.0b2) with a symlink for local.sqlite to the same on the Windows 7 64-bit partition, I can have the same calender on both partitions.
I also have a Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid LTS 32-bit partition and I would like to do the same, but cannot do it. When trying to install lightning 1.0b2 I get the message "not compatible with Thunderbird 3.0.10". So I disable the compatibilityCheck and it installs okay. But the calendar does not show any data with the symlink. Why is that? Different sqlite versions?? Or is it so that the 64-bit data cannot be read by a 32-bit program??
So I try older versions of lightning.xpi - no luck. After some additional googling I try installing Thunderbird 3.1.6 32-bit using Ubuntuzilla. Compatibility OK with 1.0b2 but still no calendar data using the symlink.
I was trying to install Lightning as an add-on with Thunderbird.
After doing some reading I was not the only one having some problems,
To Install Lightning, I needed Thunderbird 3.1, and installed on my system is 3.06.
When I did that I now get this message,
W: Failed to fetch [URL... 404 Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I've been wrestling with the whole Thunderbird, funambol and lightning compatibility issue for some time now, and was excited to come across this link that had the steps to compile both thunderbird and funambol for 64bit linux so they'd work nicely together. So I followed those steps, and got them both working together, and syncing contacts.I then went to get my calendar back up and running, and can't for the life of me find a version of lightning that will install successfully. Does anyone know if this is even possible at this stage, and if so, where I can find a version of lightning?I now have:
Thunderbird(Lanikai) 3.1.6pre
Funambol 1.0b4
Ubuntu(64bit) 10.04
The version of Thunderbird which is in openSUSE 11.3 is 3.05. Alas, the Lightning add-on only works with Thunderbird 3.1+. I use this add-on a lot!
I'm very tempted to just download Thunderbird 3.1 and install it, but I'd rather "keep it in the family" and have zypper managing the updates etc. Is 3.1 in the pipeline for openSUSE 11.3???
in my home folder i have the /.thunderbird folder, and in this folder i have the profile. ini, i have changed some things in this ini folder so that i can put my data on another partition. now i have installed lightning, i wonder where that data is installed ?
are all extesions of thunderbird installed and safed under the directory specified in the profile.ini ? or does lightning safe the appointments somewhere else.
I have thunderbird-lightning rpm installed but it doesnt show up in thunderbird. In fc11 with thunderbird 2 it was on the left bottom of the screen I think. I checked all the settings tabs but I can't find any reference to lightning. Is this a bug or is there something I have to do to see it? For now I'm using the standalone app sunbird but I really like to have the integrated lightning back in thunderbird. I also tried the lightning plugin from the plugins tab but it complains it's not compatible with gcc3 or something so I guess that's why there is a rpm package.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a method to sync my calendars on my IMAP server with both my Thunderbird/Lightning any my Blackberry. I found "IMAP Calendar Proxy" here recently, but it has been inactive for 5 years. I've seen people suggesting the use of services like Plaxo and such, but I don't like the idea of a third party messing with my calendars and contacts. Also, I've had to remove several viruses from computers with Plaxo, and I'm not sure if it in itself is a virus or not..... It certainly is a thorn in my side as is. This is for my personal IMAP server, so I'd prefer a free solution even if it is more difficult to install than a paid version. I mainly need it to just sync my calendar to my Blackberry and Thunderbird and couldn't care less about the contacts.
I've been Googling for things for quite some time now, and haven't really found anything that says that it will work with Blackberry and Thunderbird. They really only give a sense of maybe with nothing really defined. I can put on an Ubuntu server to sync everything? I don't want to leave my computer on all the time, and RIM has yet to come out with something decent to sync Blackberries and Thunderbird properly as far as I know.
How come mozilla lightning did not made into the repos for Lucid? My only chance is to download it from mozilla? I am using Lucid 32 bits. So. I did it, downloaded lightning-1.0b1-tb+sm-linux.xpi and installed fine:
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100423 Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.4
However, none of the calendar functions are working, calendar itself opens, but no grid lines are displayed. When I click on an invitation for an event, nothing is shown as body, no options to accept or decline, and the message is not marked as read. How can I workaround it? I tried mozilla daily ppa but no luck, erased .thunderbird profile, no luck. What else can I try?
I use openSUSE 11.1, 64 bits version. I also have Thunderbird version 3.0.3 . I would like to install Lightning (version 1.0 beta 1) but I get the following error : Lightning" could not be installed because it is not compatible with your Thunderbird build type (Linux_x86_64-gcc3). Please contact the author of this item about the problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
F11 just updated Firefox to 3.5.2 and now lightning doesn't work as an add on. Anyone know :
1. Is there an update for lightning that will work or
2. How can I roll back the version of firefox so I can use lightning containing my appointments?
I can install the extension MozillaThunderbird Lightning for opensuse 11.3 and Thunderbird v3.1.1. I find on the web for 1-click install is for openSUSE 11.2.

A presentation made at the 26th Chaos Communication Congress showed that the package does its job by reviewing incoming code before the browser executes it. Heise Online is reporting that this method can block over 20 different known attacks and can even be used to filter out malicious JPG attacks. As more vulnerabilities are discovered they can be added to Lightning Rod to close the breach.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
I install and update Opera using this method:
[URL]
Works great. I am notified of updates and everything.
Problem is that lately when I run an update to Opera the key is deleted from Software Sources. This happens on several systems (10.04 and 9.10 at least) and happens each time I update Opera.
I install the key again, of course, and the next update deletes the key.
I lost transparent terminal windows in LL after you upgraded, you have fallen victim to the not-too-atypical "Preferences File Use Changed Krap". Essentially when you look at a preferences pane it appears that everything is ok, but actually, the way the preference file is being used changed in this version of Ubuntu and you are being punished for it. We need to get the new version of the program to fix the preference file for us, which is easy enough to do by just making the setting changes again.
So, in Terminal,
1) Go to Edit->Profile Preferences.
2) Pick the "Background" tab. You will most likely see that the "Transparent Background" radio is set, but the background is not transparent.
3) Click on one of the other radios (I did "background image") and the terminal window should become transparent.
4) Click on the Transparent radio again and dismiss the dialog.
I was happily using Shutter in 9.10 with no problems, but since upgrading to 10.04 there's been a problem with the default save path - every time shutter is restarted, it moves down one notch. If the original save path was /home/vacri/pictures/image-manip, the next time it is /home/vacri/pictures, then /home/vacri, all the way down to just /
Which, of course, it can't write to. Either way, it's not saving screenshots where I want them.
A friend running Mint that's also based on ubuntu 10.04 is having the same issue.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 on my notebook, and I had a problem with compiz, it loses the windows borders, when i excecute
Code:
compiz --replace
i get this output
Code:
Starting gtk-window-decorator
compiz: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/compiz/libdecoration.so: undefined symbol: decor_property_to_quads
Every time I load unity - either by rebooting, logging out/in, or just "unity --replace" all my self-placed launchers are gone (just chrome, terminal and a custom launcher for my email) and the LibreOffice ones are back.
I'm assuming this isn't a bug, as here and launchpad would have tonnes of reports of something so obvious if it were affecting everyone, but something local to me.
i have an ubuntu server box as my gateway and firewall. for days at a time itll run fine, then one or two days out of the week, it will drop connection often because it drops its ip addr. when renew an ip, itll work fine for about 5 minutes and drop again.ive tried different nics, different wire, my logs dont mention anything, my cron files dont have anything suspicious.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that KLauncher seems to periodically lose the ability to launch programs. Sometimes an error dialog pops up: "Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksysguard.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application." (I verified that KLauncher is in fact still running). Other times, the pointer icon bounces and the placeholder shows up in my task bar, but then it all goes away without any error.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to what's running when this happens, or how much memory is in use, or what I launch, or anything else. Sometimes, if I start closing apps that are already open, then the thing I tried to launch will start up. Other times, I have to actually log out and back in before I can get anything to start. Other than that, the desktop continues to behave normally. Nothing seems to be locked up or anything. It's very strange.
I run version 10.04 GNOME. My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
