This happened all of a sudden, the System menu has nothing to offer but 'help and support' and 'About GNOME'. I tried restarting X, also removing the theme i was using but did not help.
View 1 RepliesIm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 in a friends laptop,but everytime I put in the disc with the ISO it doesnt show the Ubuntu menu with the Installation options etc, it just starts up Windows normally, and when its on Windows it recognizes the disc and a window pops up showing the files within the disc (the ISO) and it doesnt let me install it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAll I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.

Anyways I downloaded AVG 8.5.732 (avg85flx-r732-a3168.i386.deb) and installed the package (Synaptic Package Manager lists it as being installed) but I can't find in the Ubuntu Software Centre nor can I find it in the system/main menu list.

Once the screen gets locked after long periods of no keyboard/mouse activity (all ok for short periods of time), I don't even get back the familiar unlock screen with password.I get a blank screen and then Io a ctrl-alt-f7Is this a known issue in natty? On certain web pages, for instance www.slackware.com, Firefox doesnt display the background image, but instead displays multiple images of the tool bar of Firefox. It doesnt matter if I change the settings to allow third part cookies or if I tell Firefox to get images automatically. When using Konqueror, the web-site(s) appear normal.

Then I need to select the 3rd element of a drop down list that appears a few moments (depending on the connection) after the link is pressed, without reloading the page (ajax or something like that). This I can't get to work, The select has no id or class, but I can get its xpath value. There is only one select on the page. I've tried both setTimeOut and the DOMNodeInserted event with no effect.

On any video I play, the picture is on top of the drop down menus for the player so they can't be seen- they drop down and work and can see the parts that are to the sides of the video picture. This happens on every video player I have tried -Movie player GNOME MPlayer, VLC. The image that shows the problem had to be taken with a camera as using the screen capture looked as though the video picture wasn't even there (image also attached)

I don't like the black arrow on the Main Menu so I followed the instructions to get rid of it posted hereI got to the part where I type "sudo make" However, I get the exact error posted hereI tried to follow the solution, I installed libpanel-applet2-dev using synaptic. I tried to edit the "Makefile" in the directory /var/cache/apt-build/build/gnome-panel-2.30.2. View 3 Replies View RelatedI realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).
In Windows Explorer, if a file is focused, press Menu Key on keyboard, context menu will show on top of the file. But in Nautilus, the same action shows context menu where the mouse cursor is. That's a bit annoying. Is there anyway to make it work like Windows?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I right-click on firefox, the menu that appears is sometimes quite long depending on where on the screen I click, and usually the top option dissappears under that top Panel of Gnome shell, so that I have to guess and click on the panel to get an "Open in New Tab" (which is usually my first option.) Is there a way to make it remain within the visible area or something? I'm on Fedora 15 64-bit.
