I recently managed to install it on a PC alongside Windows XP (seperate hard disk's). Anyways I downloaded AVG 8.5.732 (avg85flx-r732-a3168.i386.deb) and installed the package (Synaptic Package Manager lists it as being installed) but I can't find in the Ubuntu Software Centre nor can I find it in the system/main menu list.

I'd like to combine the gnome-main-menu and control center windows into one window.by default the gnome-main-menu closes by after you choose an application, the control center does not.I use docky and if I could combine the two windows I'd have one less icon on the dock.I'm also open to alternative menus. preferably that work with docky. gnomenu isn't my fav but I haven't tried many others.[URL]
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I made a clean install of 10.10 (64 bit). Among others, I installed World of Goo from a .deb file, and it worked fine.
Today, I wanted to install Skype from the .deb file. When I double-click the file, I get a "wait" cursor for ~20 sec, then nothing happens. When I try to start Software Center from the Main menu, I also get the Wait cursor and then nothing happens.
I started software-center from the terminal and the software center opened, despite some warnings in the terminal. I could install some random application from the list. Then I tried to start

And the software center window showed, with Skype selected. When I clicked Install, there was an error message. Despite the "no such a file or directory" part, I am sure that the file name is correct (I tab-completed it).

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have to use alsa for audio to work under wine (otherwise pulseaudio starts eating up processor cycles and the audio comes out horrible and distorted), but I have been unable to use the mic. The mic boost is up on the alsa mixer, and they are not muted. I cannot find any options under my system menu for Sound Preferences (which seems to get references in a lot fo help forums), or anywhere else to determine which audio driver the line in on the front uses.
I'm using an Acer laptop from a couple years ago, so support should be no problem.
My software center has stopped working so I tried Synaptic which doesn't even open so I tried:

I can't seem to hide any items on the "Games" menu from "Main Menu" (System->Preferences->Main Menu). I can hide items on all of the other menus under the main one but the game links won't change. Is there another way to do this?

I last asked this four years ago and got a response with a very lengthy script that had to be run at boot time, in terminal mode.
The icons for the main menu are not appearing and the option that allowed them to be displayed under the main menu window is not there anymore. How do I get my icons back, it is looking quite bare and boring without them.
