After installing latest Firefox on my new PC and importing bookmarks from old PC, none of my bookmarks in the pull down table have individual icons as seen on the navigation bar- just the 'blank page' icon. I've deleted bookmarks,navigated to the page and bookmarked it again,but still the blank page icon. Have re-installed Firefox but still no joy.
View 1 RepliesI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't find the little icons and tiny previews that iceweasel seems to make by grabbing an icon from a webpage at all helpful, and consider them a security risk.I have been using Debian Lenny for some time and have tried hard to foil the chrome engine (?) xul_runner (?) from sticking these icons in various places. But it still manages to stick them in, of all places, my bookmark file. How do I prevent that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to disable the icons in the bookmarks tool bar? You know what I mean: my facebook bookmark always has this little F right next to it, the ..... bookmark has the red and white ..... icon, etc.
Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.

I set up all my icons on the bookmarks toolbar, but after restarting all the icons are the same one.
i.e. I have 10 reddit bookmarks and no gmail,ubuntu etc. Only happens on this machine, not my work machine that has ubuntu10.10 as well.
I installed Netbook Launcher on Ubuntu, it works almost perfect, but when the number of icons on some menu option is large enough (like on System) the scrollbar is not long enough and the last icons get cut off, so I can't completely see "Time and Date" for example... Is this a known bug?

I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 after using 8.10 until now. I have two sepparate screens (NOT Xinerama). The problems is that I cannot drag and drop icons on the desktop betwen the 2 screens. On ubuntu 8.10 this was working perfectly.
I do not want to use Xinerama because it is not what I want - when I change workspaces, it changes on both screens, one one screen I have to click exactly on taskbar to minimize/maximize application, so I do not whant to use Xinerama.
So do you have any ideeea how I can have back the feature from 8.10 to be able to drag and drop icons from one screen to another ? I have a sepparate home partition and old settings were loaded into this ubuntu, i erased settings from .gnome, .nautilus etc and still doesn work.
I'm trying to make a very small script with greasemonkey to do some automatic things when a page loads. The first thing I need to do is to click on a link. I've done that. Then I need to select the 3rd element of a drop down list that appears a few moments (depending on the connection) after the link is pressed, without reloading the page (ajax or something like that). This I can't get to work, The select has no id or class, but I can get its xpath value. There is only one select on the page. I've tried both setTimeOut and the DOMNodeInserted event with no effect.

This happened all of a sudden, the System menu has nothing to offer but 'help and support' and 'About GNOME'. I tried restarting X, also removing the theme i was using but did not help.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).
I have a PC with three partitions: C, D, E. The C: and D: partition are NTFS and C: has Windows XP on it. D: holds my data files and folders in the Windows environment. E: has CentOS version 5.x. The machine is dual bootable. When booting up Grub gave me the options to boot to CentOS (by default) or to boot into Win XP (by selecting it).
Recently I used Partition Magic to resize the D: partition. I shrank the D: partition. The freed space space was then used to create a new NTFS partition.
After the partitioning was completed, I rebooted the machine. But now Grub is having a problem. It does not display the list of of bootable OS options any more. Instead there is just a black screen with the prompt:
grub>
What am I supposed to do here?
I am afraid that after I ran Partition Magic somehow Grub is messed up. How do I recover the previous boot options? Or at the minimum, how do I make the the machine to boot into Windows XP?

If not, how about reducing the size of the icons for the applications window and for the panel on the left?
in my quest to reduce chrome and padding in Nautilus, I've come across something I can't seem to find on my own. I know there are 3 basic views - icons, list, and compact - and I prefer list; however, on the left of the list view, there is a 20-25px or so (depending on theme of course) of margin/padding/space on the left - reserved for the + or - or arrows indicating a folder can be expanded inline.
I would simply like to remove this space (and the cooresponding +/- icons). I realize this will relinquish my ability to expand folders inline - which is fine with me, I don't use the feature much anyway.I can probably surmise where the actual icons live, reverse engineering a theme or what have you... but I'm guessing that still won't change that space.
is there any way to get a more "vanilla" list view?UPDATE: while I don't think specs really matter to this question, here's what I'm running anyway:Ubuntu 10.10, 32bit in Gnome (default for that Ubu version) using mostly stock Nautilus besides it being the Elementary build (hidden menubar and such).
I was testing with "Compiz rotate cube" in my Ubuntu machine. Changed some settings by disabling "desktop cube". Something had changed in the mean time.
Now i could able to login. Only blank desktop wall paper i could able to see. No applications list, startup icons displaying.
If i press Ctrl + Alt + F = Folder view is displaying, i could able to view my files.
If i press Ctrl + Alt + F1 = Could able to go to Terminal window and able to do all sort of commands.
revert to my original settings so that i will getback my icons / applications list in my desktop.
Is there a way to change the default File Browser View from Icons to List?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was recording a DVD when I wanted to look at a folder to see if there was a file there. I went to "places", as I always do, and a window poped up asking for a password. This has never happened before. I entered the password and went to the folder. I always view folders as "list", then they displayed as "icons". I finished the recording and re-started. It still appears the same, and when I open programs I notice little differences in the way things look and feel. The reason I was recording DVD's was to get some of the movies off my hard drive. It was down to 81Gbs free, It now says there is 365 Gbs free. I have searched everything and I see nothing missing.

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.
