Programming :: Select The 3rd Element Of A Drop Down List?

I'm trying to make a very small script with greasemonkey to do some automatic things when a page loads. The first thing I need to do is to click on a link. I've done that. Then I need to select the 3rd element of a drop down list that appears a few moments (depending on the connection) after the link is pressed, without reloading the page (ajax or something like that). This I can't get to work, The select has no id or class, but I can get its xpath value. There is only one select on the page. I've tried both setTimeOut and the DOMNodeInserted event with no effect.
So I have been trying for 8 hours to try to get the index of an element from a list in a Makefile. The problem is that after I get the index using all the methods I have tried, the index cant be used in the "word" function:
for instance: $(OUTPUT2) : INDEX = $(shell echo $(OUTPUT2) | sed -r -e "s/[ ]+/ /g" | grep -n $@ | sed 's/^([0-9]*):.*/1/')
will create a variable INDEX defined specifically for each member of OUTPUT2, so that each output knows its index. Unfortunately, when I pass this $(INDEX) into word, it doesn't work:
$(OUTPUT2) : $(word $(INDEX), $(INPUT1)) $(word $(INDEX), $(INPUT2)) echo $(INAME) $(TMPBASE) $@ and I get the error: Makefile:16: *** non-numeric first argument to `word' function: 'num'. Stop.
I feel like if I could just convert a string to a Makefile acceptable number this would just work....
I changed my post because I found that solution, and didn't want to bother for that. But, since I didnt find a way to delete the post, I thought of updating it: I am beginning to write the code for the philosophers problem. As you know, they can eat, think or wait for forks. When they have 2 forks, one by each side, they eat. Then they set the 2 forks as available, and think.
Each philosopher is a thread. My problem is that it gives segmentation fault, somehow, when I try to initialize. The thing I really don't understand, is why it sometimes gives segmentation fault on initialization #0!!! (But generally on initialization #1) I have set 5 initializations in total, defined by N, that is also the number of threads I'm working on.
After installing latest Firefox on my new PC and importing bookmarks from old PC, none of my bookmarks in the pull down table have individual icons as seen on the navigation bar- just the 'blank page' icon. I've deleted bookmarks,navigated to the page and bookmarked it again,but still the blank page icon. Have re-installed Firefox but still no joy.

This happened all of a sudden, the System menu has nothing to offer but 'help and support' and 'About GNOME'. I tried restarting X, also removing the theme i was using but did not help.
I'm using libxml2 to handle/manipulate some XML files. In order to check the consistency of a XML file, I have a DTD and I'm using the xmlValidateDtd method to compute the check.
However, when an error occures during the check (for example an attribute is missing in a XML tag), then libxml2 writes the error on the stdout/stderr. For exemple:

The method return the right result (true or false depending on the check result), but occurring errors are written on the stdout/stderr, and I actually don't want that.
I have a cluttered documents folder with hundreds of html documents. and some other stuff. So I went to list view, sorted that view by clicking on the type tab, then tried to drag the cursor over all the html items to select them, and NADA. couldn't do it. Is that a feature I have to enable? I can do icon view drag and select, and yes, I could do it from the terminal with Code: mv $PWD/Documents/*.html $PWD/Documents/BrokenSites But It seems this is like a pretty basic feature which doesn't work. So Is this something I can enable? Is it launchpad where one can recommend / vote for improvements?
I realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).
How would I list 4 users ID numbered 10, 11, 12 and 13 from my users list and output them to a file busers where their names are numbered by ascending order? How would I accomplish that on a one line command?
I am trying to get this script to work. The purpose is to download a list of modules from the slax.org the list consist of a list of module numbers. What I am trying to do is Download the file or the file name corresponding to the number in the list.the list is comma delimited. this is what I have done so far and I am a stand still.

I have currently had the need to go back to basic socket programming, and implemented a simple udp packet sender. But I realized I needed to be able to select which network interface to send the packets from.
The reason is so that one of the interfaces has vlan tagging, and I need my UDP packets to be accordingly vlan tagged. For example, one of the interfaces is eth1.200.
I have tried to google it around and couldn't find any good solution for it. What I want is to hook up to the kernel network hooks and for example investigate all of the packets (maybe keep some in the buffer and drop in the kernel so I could send them out lets say 10 minutes later) but from a C / C++ program perspective / level. I know it can be done via iptables but isn't there a way to do it from a program ?? I have found a library called ipq but apparently doesn't work with kernel 2.6.x anymore.
I have a script that writes the following type lines to a file. The lines include some html tags. Here is an example:<p>Total = 5</h2></b></center>I want to keep the <p> tag, but remove the ending 3 tags. Sometimes the line can have a 1, 2, or perhaps a 3 digit Total. So I could have a Total = 125.Anyway, after the removal of the ending tags the result would be:<p>Total = 5There are some lines in the file that end with </h2></b></center> that I want to keep. These lines looks generally like this:

As you can see I am using sed to change the beginning and end of lines to make a very simple web page.The file actually displays ok in a browser with the extra tags on the end, but it is just sloppy work to have these unneeded tags in the output file.
I've got a non-urgent but itchy thing here - I'm implementing a drag-and-drop. All rolls well, but I'd like to have the component be "followed" - if there is a drag on the component, the form should be visible. I'd like to make a puzzle where the player can see the perimeter of the piece to see if it fits where (s)he'd want to drop it. Before I delve into the tons of code, I'd like to know if that (the following) can be done.

We have an application which allows user to perform Drag and Drop operations. The problem we are facing now is the application crash. System works fine for some time and allows user to perform many drag drops successfully. But after running for some time and user perform a drag and drop the system crashes.Following stack trace we are getting while system crashes.
I have a process that forks, where the childs puts some data of random size and exits while the parent should get the data and does some manipulation.. here I have used a pipe for child to write the data and parent to read the data.. Child simply dumps the data, and the data is of any size even child and parent doesnt know. I have used select in the parent to see whether there is any data coming on the reading end of the pipe.. if there is a data.. I copy into a buffer.. Im reading the data continusly when the child exits after closing the writing end of pipe. Parent gets blocked on the read part But my question is how parent know the other of pipe is closed when using the select call. In otherwords.. while using select in readfds, how would i know the other end has closed the pipe..

Problem here is that i'm stating currency.value twice in the same select and don't know how to define which currency.value applies to sales and which to purchase.

I need to know how to assign a result from a select. I am clueless on the sytax. I am trying this in bash. Maybe I am not assigning the array right. It gives me the whole row in the echo instead of just field a. How do I get fieldA = a in the select. Note script was stripped for security on database info but the syntax is same.

I'm facing a strange problem with our code. What the program does is to wait on a select() after a non-blocking connect. And I expect the select wake up with write_set after the ESTAB. And I expect select wakeup with both rd_set and wr_set if I recv a RST back for our SYN or any similar errors. But in one of the cases I'm seeing select is waking up with only rd_set in a non-connected sockeet, which is causing a lot of problems for me.
The code is organized such that the socket close() happens only in wr_set processing. Because of that with the above problem I'm going in to a strange scenario. After the event I call select() again and wait for another socket event. But with this issue, my select is waking up there after everytime as soon as I call select(). That too only with rd_set. So it keeps on going with select() sleeping 0 secs. Thus the program is hung and eating lot of CPU cycles also.
The trigger for all these problems seems to be some event which causes the waking up of select() with rd_set only. I tried many ways to find out what is happening with this. Couldn't find anything interesting yet.
