Ubuntu :: System Not Updated - 404 Not Found Error
Sep 2, 2010
I get the "Could not download all repository indexes" error whenever I check for updates in update manager. In the error window it says this:
"Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found. Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I'm not sure what this repository is for, so I can remove it, but I just want to make sure this is not the "main" repository that I get updates from. Will I still keep getting my system updates if I remove it?
My Ibuntu 10.4 system can't be updated because of error message:"Segmentation faulty tree" coming from apt-get check. It reads 50% of then stops. It shows reading the package lists, the Done.
My update to ubuntu 10.04 automatically updated my revtex to revtex4.1 but I am having a few problems. The first is that the natbib does not accept the footnote{} command and so I cannot put in footnotes in the middle of the text. The second is that all my old revtex4 files are not being accepted anymore, as revtex4.cls has now been replaced. Now I removed the texlive and texlive publishers with "sudo apt-get autoremove" and tried to reinstall them with "sudo apt-et install". I made things even worse because now I not only get the message "revtex4.cls' not found" but also "revtex4.1.cls' not found" when I try using revtex4.1.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit)on my laptop (where currently is installed the amd64 version of Ubuntu 10.04 that I've decided to remove because of some small issues).I've tried using the installation CD (the same I've used to install it on my desktop, so I know that is a working copy),but at boot, although I select to boot from CD, the Live version doesn't start and Ubuntu 64 is run as usual.I've tried to create a startup diskon a usb pen, there the live version seems to start but then Busybox 1.3 is loaded and there is an error with initfrm saying that no operating system can be found.I've been told to download the alternate edition, but I'm still downloading it,
I just purchased an Acer Aspire 5050, and was trying to install Ubuntu on it for my mother. (No, I am not forcing it on her, she actually asked for it.) I burned a CD and put it in the drive, and it said Operating System not found. So I went into the BIOS and told it to boot nothing but the optical drive. Same error. I burned another disk with the same computer, and then another computer. Same error. (Hereafter referred to as "nothing")
So I went and purchased a 4GB flash drive from micro center. Converted my iso to img and DDed from my Mac, then set the BIOS to boot it. The BIOS recognizes the disk, but won't boot from it, giving the same error. So I thought: Fine, I guess I can't get _nix to boot, how about Windows 7? Put the disk in that I used to install on my laptop, genuine Windows 7 disk, nothing. I tried the Vista disk that came with the computer, also nothing.
Any ideas on how to install ANY operating system on this machine? I get absolutely no POST errors. I turned off Quiet Boot and looked, no errors there either. I would be fine installing any _nix based, it doesn't have to be an easy install. I can provide more information as needed, not a problem. I can't think of any more useful information at the moment.
I will have a hosting server installed with debian 7.5 and has the following error: "operating system not found".
I've done everything I could. Reinstall grub and I let it install fine and no errors, but does not booting, among the iso "boot-repair-disk-32bit.iso" and repair, all good, but not booting.
The system has a Raid 5 disks with one volume and two partitions, including a livecd ubuntu, and I see perfectly partitions have no problems, checked. I go with the "Super Grub Disk" (iso) and let me enter the system out there, but they do not enter the iso, not start me. All isos the'm putting on a flash memory to boot.
I just updated Audacious to 2.4.3, and now when I try to play mp3's, I get this: No decoder found for file "my song." Ogg files still play fine though. I know I can downgrade, but I'd rather this just be fixed.
I upgraded a system from 10.3 to 11.4 and I get the following error when trying to run mysql:
Will update MySQL now, if you encounter any problems, please read following file: /usr/share/doc/packages/mysql-community-server/README.SuSE Log files inconsistency, please merge following files manually: /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.log /var/log/mysqld.log
How can I correct this? Mysql will not start so I can not run any of the utilities.
I have an IBM Thinkpad T42 with winxp on it which shows the error "operating system not found". The BIOS can recognize the HDD. I tries to installed ubuntu on it using a bootable flash disk. But, it didn't succeed. Is there any way I can fix this?
I have updated Ubuntu all the way to 10.04, but the desktop environment still keeps its old looks. For example, the GNOME panel has the old, light grey colour rather than the new, dark grey. The new greyscale icons for battery and wireless aren't in place either.
What shall I do to bring it up to date either immediately or when 10.10 comes out?
I'm usin Ubuntu 9.10 and installed it a couple of months ago. I was trying to figure out how to use Synaptic to fix some dependancy errors I was getting, and set it to remove a certain package. It said it had to remove other packages as well to do this, well that ended up being Gnome and a whole bunch of other stuff. Silly me.So I was alright without having Gnome and went back to writing simple c++ from this book. I wrote a program to output a range of numbers and ran it but had written it wrong, so it would have ran on for hours. So I just killed the power and tried to start the comp again.
This time after the Dell boot screen it would tell me my system battery was low and strike F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup. Hit F1 and Im told that a file wasnt found and then it goes to the Ubuntu loading screen (The logo and some dots underneath) and then a black screen. Nothing else.I figured I needed to reintall and dont have any CDs so tried to make a live CD and this time when I try to boot from USB device get a "Missing Operating System" error. Its set to boot from USB device before harddrive. Need to know what to do to install again/recover old install.
I am trying to install debian 6.0.1a in an old COMPAQ 1255 (amd-k6, 160 MB ram, 4.3 Gbyte AT33.33 MB/s Cyl 6568 Heads 6 bytes per sector 512 HardDisk). I am using the netinstall CD_ROM , I just want the base system (the last option in the list you are presented) I got installed debian 5.0.8 , base package plus fluxbox plus a light browser plus a light pdfviewer, and I got really surprised what an useful system I got from such and old hardware.
With 6.0.1a everything goes well during the install process, the net is recognized, also the disk, formatting an partitions are created, apt-get configured, repositories contacted, etc. I only select base system (may be I am confused with the name, it is the last option in the list), and I select the install using the whole hard disk (i also tryed the install using a separated home partition but I had the same problem). I am installing the system in spanish, using latinamerican keyboard layout.
the installer then asks to take away the CD-ROM, I do, I reboot and then I got "GRUB Read Error Operating System not found". Just before the message, the machine search the floppy. If I press a key, I got the same behaviour, noise in the floppy, error message.
I can boot the CD_ROM in rescue mode, and I can select /dev/hda1 and get a console. i can do ls and cd and navigate the tree. It looks like everything is there, the /etc, the /home, all of the directories. if I do fdisk /dev/hda i got a warning because dos compatible mode is deprecated with option p of fdisk i got:
15 heads, 63 sectors/track 8944 cylinders. (different of the specifications?) device boot Id system /dev/hda1 * 83 Linux
[code].....
i can do less grub.cfg, and I got lot of information. I think this part could be relevant to the problem
insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,msdos1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid
I have a RHEL 3 server that I just tried to install updates on, but up2date kicked back the following message and no updates. Is redhat not offering updates for version 3 anymore? "This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel".
I have a problem with my hard disk...this HHD had no OS just data in some linux file system....i tired to plug it in a windows OS and backup the files....but now the HHD file systems shows RAW. Now when i plug in fedora 15 OS the HHD is not mountable. I tried to # grub-install /dev/dbc1 but it give me an error. error "Bios driver not found" What can i do to restore my file system so i can recover my data?
Booting into runlevel 3 and then issuing the $init 5, command leaves me this."binary handler for windows applications already registered" and the system hangs there.I yum removed wine, thinking that might be the issue, but that solved nothing.
I just used the on-line update to upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4. Now when I click the computer button in lower left, there are no entries under system, ie. control center, yast, install, lock, logout, shutdown. How do I get those back?
I have recently installed Fedora 10 in my x86_64 system and fully updated. The updation size was nearly 650MB. My question is can I make a an updated installer DVD from my existing fedora system?
I have updated to the new kernel that was available from 11.2 and now I cant use my system.
It boots up into kde 4.3.5 and then right when its just finishing it freezes everytime and I hear that last tone of the bootup sound ring continually until I force a shutdown. Anyone else have this issue with the update?
My desktop (the system AIDE runs on) is reguarly updated, and the file output can become enormous, making it hard, if not impossible, to track down out of place files. I have recently thought of uninstalling it since I can't tell what is out of place and what isn't, but before I do that I wanted to ask everyones opinion regarding what would be the best way to handle such a program on a desktop that has some core files changed reguarly. This sytem is running Gentoo, so updates affect a number of directories.
I am unable to get a Brother MFC-5460CN printer to print on a fully updated F12 system. Everything looks normal in Administration | Printing. All fields match the format shown on the Brother site. The printer status is updating correctly so there is communication to the printer. But jobs just queue and eventually show as printed but nothing is actually printed. There are no other printers. Here is the output in /var/log/messages from plugging in the printer and trying to print a document:

I followed the instructions on the Brother Linux drivers page and all the rpms loaded without error. But the log is showing some type of key problem.
I am using the default CVS available in Fedora 9. I initiated the CVS server by cvs -d /usr/local/cvsproj init To check-in and check-out the following exports commands are used export CVS_RSH=ssh export CVSROOT=:ext:swathi@SERVER:/usr/local/cvsproj
I shall explain problem by taking an example. A project was checked in long before (for example the checkin date is 25 Feb 2010). And today (i.e. 21 June 2011) I checked out the project from the repository. After checkout, the date of the project in the repository is changed from 25 Feb 2010 to 21 June 2011. This date is set to all the subfolders in that project. But the files in the project retains the checking date i.e. 25 Feb 2010. Why the check-in dates are getting updated/changed to the system time after doing check-out.
Recently I updated to centos 5.5 , every thing is fine , but the mkinitrd can't updated
When try: yum clean all yum update

Also, how can I upgrade drivers/add drivers for my hardware?
I just installed Fedora and have no idea what Im doing lol.
But after it updated and I restarted the service, it's reporting 2.2.0 on any error page. Yet through yum it's reporting 2.2.13-1. Is that normal? I've only ever used 2.2.x, starting with 2.2.6ish.
I was installing last night some applications , then i forgot to plugin my laptop so suddenly it turned off , anyways today i turned it on , while booting it gave me this error : "error where found when mounting the disk file /"so i press I to ignore , and it works , but now how can i fix this error?
I am having a problem installing SLES11 on a new server. It goes fine through the setup until it gets to GRUB, it gets me the following error message: Error occurred while installing GRUB
Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.
