Ubuntu :: Stuck In TTY After Install Nvidia?

Feb 26, 2011

Stuck in tty after installing a Nvidia driver. I've gone through all of the steps in [URL] including the last problem where it temporarily freezes on the load screen. However there wasn't any documentation after that point. Notes for readers:Pressing Cntrl Alt F7 just sticks me to a stuck screen and not the GUI.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Stuck With A Low Resolution With A NVIDIA GTS 250

Feb 26, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit with a GTS 250. After installing the restricted driver from NVIDIA's website I get stuck at a 640x320 resolution. The only other option I get is 320x240. The resolution I need is 1680x1050.

I've also encountered this problem with a 9600GT.

Ubuntu :: Stuck At Low Resolution W/nvidia Drivers?

Feb 27, 2010

I currently have an nvidia 8600 gts w/nvidia restricted drivers and I cannot seem to change the resolution to anything higher than 640x480. Everything used to work perfectly w/the restricted drivers however I downloaded an update and it screwed everything up.

I have tried to edit my xorg.conf file but it seems that either i'm doing something wrong or the nvidia drivers are simply ignoring that file. I tried reverting back to the older versions of the drivers and that didnt seem to work. I tried installing the newest version of the nvidia drivers and that didnt work either. below is my xorg.conf file

Ubuntu Multimedia :: NVidia 8500GT Card Stuck In 640x480?

Jan 14, 2010

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on my HTPC, and it detected my TV (connected via DVI, so is a monitor effectively) OK, and displayed the proper resolution of 1360 x 768. I want to use the proper nVidia drivers which I've enabled using the restricted drivers tool in Ubuntu. On doing this, it has set the resolution to 640 x 480, and the nVidia configuration tool will not let me set it any higher.

1. The contents of xorg.conf are now irrelevant as of the last few versions of X?

2. The nVidia software is not reading the EDID information from my TV properly?

Ubuntu :: Nvidia 9600gt : Resolution Stuck On 640x480 With Proprietary Drivers

Oct 20, 2010

I have a BIG issue with my fresh Maverick install : when I install proprietary drivers via the graphic utility, either one proposed, the screen resolution is then max in 640x480. But I have hardware acceleration and compiz effects !

I tried, I think, everything. Forcing the resolution in xorg, in monitors.xml, try the newest ones via the ppa, install an older (and used to be working I'm positive) one with .run (which just prevent any graphic display).

Hardware :: HDA Nvidia - Realtek ALC1200 - Stuck In Either 6ch Or 8ch Mode

Feb 17, 2010

Card=HDA Nvidia
Chip=Realtek ALC1200
Xubuntu 9.10 64
VLC (also use other video/audio players but this one is my main one.)

I have the speakers plugged into the headphone jack of the audio card. The problem is that I am stuck in either 6ch or 8ch mode, even with the headphone box checked and all relevant settings where they are suppose to be in alsamixer. I am missing sounds plus the volume is lower then it should be over all. Music, for example, does play but it is not the whole song. For example if I listen to one song, it stops all instruments and is suppose to play and guitar solo. But I don't hear it at all.

What I want to do is get it to work in 2ch. I am using Alsa but I have no idea what to edit, or if there is anything I can edit to get to 2ch. I do not want to use pulseaudio at all. One of the main reasons why I won't use Gnome (Ubuntu) right now. I have more headaches with that then I am with this problem.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Screen Resolution Stuck At 1024x768 - NVidia GeForce 7100

Sep 16, 2010

I am stuck at 1024x768 in Ubuntu 10.04 with the nVidia GeForce 7100. I installed the drivers suggested by nVidia on their website, but it doesn't seem to heighten my resolution any. 1024x768 is the highest which appears in nVidia X Server Settings.

Xorg.conf:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 256.53 (buildmeister@builder101) Fri Aug 27 21:34:01 PDT 2010
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen "Default Screen" 0 0
InputDevice "Configured Keyboard" "CoreKeyboard"
[Code]...

Is there a way to fix this without having to buy a new card? I've read that the GeForce 7100 is pretty crappy, but I've got no money to space at the moment.

I can't figure out how to install the nvidia drivers for my nvidia 8800 GT video card. I've followed some other posts and all the posts seemed either incomplete, or led me down a path of which eventually broke my installation, that I needed to reinstall the entire ubuntu system.Again, it may not have been broken, i just didnt know how to get back in to the gui version of ubuntu, the instructions took me to the console terminal

1.) I've installed the ubuntu 10.10 64bit for i386 in an oracle virtualBox..

2.) downloaded from nvidia.com "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.44.run"

Ubuntu Servers :: Install Is Stuck At Partition?

Dec 24, 2010

I am trying to turn an old HP Pavillion 6630 desktop into a home server, and due to my own relative inexperience using linux I decided on a ubuntu server. However, when I get to the partitioner it shows me an error screen: [!!] Partition disks<Go Back> <Continue>I can only choose to go back or continue, and no matter which one i press it goes to a non-responsive blue screen. A slightly worse version of the BSoD if you will. I assumed this was a hardware problem initially, however the hard drive boots fine into windows still, and it still might be a hardware issue, I would just like some other input on what the problem might be.

CentOS 5 :: Can't Install Nvidia Drivers (Unable To Load The Kernel Module "nvidia.ko")?

So I have been trying to install these drivers forever and after going through a million forum posts and Google searches I have been unsuccessful. The process I have been trying starts as such: I hit ctrl-alt-f1 and then login as root. i then change to run level 3 by doing /sbin/init 3. After that's done I cd to desktop and do sh NVIDIA-LINUX-x86-185.18.29-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path /usr/src/kernel/2.6.18-128.2.1.el15-i686

If I don't give it the source path it can't find the source tree. Eventually I get the error: ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from

Ubuntu :: 10.4 Clean Install - Stuck In Password Loop

Feb 2, 2011

I have been trying to get ubuntu 10.4 running on a Packard Bell Easynote r1004. Having had problems with 9.10 I tried 10.4 first booting from the live cd to test compatibility and was supprised when I was presented with a logon screen. Of cause I could not logon as there was no password setup. So I rebooted and went for a clean install. I set a username and password in the install process. When installed I entered the correct password, and it looked for about a second that all was going to be well, but then the password screen reappeared. I tried entering again in case of a type and even entering an incorrect password. The incorrect password was correctly rejected. I have reinstalled 3 times with 3 different copies of the cd all copies are official copies and they work on other pc's. It just returns to the passsword screen each time you enter the password.

Ubuntu :: Repetitive Freezes - Stuck On Try / Install Screen

Jun 11, 2011

I burned a disk with Ubuntu on it, put it in and used the "try" function. I spent a couple hours on it and liked it. I decided to hit the install button on the desktop, it all went smoothly. It froze during the "logging off" process, so I cold booted it. Upon restart, I was prompted again to try/install Ubuntu. (Again, I've already installed it, or so I think...) Well, what the heck. I install it again, it freezes and I let it be. I come back to find it, once again, on the try/install screen. I'm currently on the "try" function again. How do I cure my lack of an installed copy of Ubuntu?

OpenSUSE Install :: Lost KDE GUI And Stuck Mostly With CLI

Oct 4, 2010

I can't get my usual gui now. I had videocard problems which I was attempting to solve by uninstalling the proprietary ATI driver. While doing this the card failed completely and I had nothing on the screen at all. So I had to shut it down by killing the power. I now have a new video card in the machine but I've lost KDE. I'm not sure how it happened but when I tried to log in I was presented with the login screen one usually gets when you choose to log out of your account after a normal boot up using, in my case, KDE.

Logging in normally in that screen as my usual user didn't work. It simply went back to the login screen after a few seconds. But this screen also gives you various options to log in that aren't KDE and I chose one of those. I don't remember which. It sort of worked. I get a small cli window in the upper left corner of the screen. However, I can start programs from there, including Firefox, which I'm using to post this. I have the gui within those programs. How do I get my usual KDE gui back? I'm using 11.3 and an ati 4350 card.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Install Stuck Before Start Of Partitioner / Solve This?

Aug 13, 2010

Trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on a HP 6540b laptop - dual boot with Windows 7. I keep getting stuck on:

1. [GUI install] after step 3 of 7 where a KB layout (I've tried many other layout) is selected then going next and it hangs there trying to do something.

2. [Alternative install] stuck on 45% of scanning disks at "Starting up the partitioner" code...

I've tried desktop 32bit and 64bit install and also alternative 32 and 64. Also tried installing from CD & USB drive.

I guess it's something to do with the disk partition? Anyone come across this before?

I've installed 10.04 with similar dual boot partitions layout on an older HP 6710b without any issues.
