Jun 9, 2010I recently install lotus notes and symphony on my Ubuntu desktop. It is now defaulting all my docs to open in symphony. Is there a way for me to change it to default back to Open Office?

Sep 13, 2010I installed google-chrome and configured it as my default browser in my desktop "Preferred applications" configuration app, and in update-alternatives --config x-www-browser. I also exported the BROWSER variable to be = /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome (logged out and then logged in again). Although, If I open a XLS file with some links inside (OpenOffice 3.2.0) it opens links in firefox instead of google chrome. I surfed across all options in Tools->Options and there is nothing to set or change the default browser.

Jun 10, 2011I always enjoyed the feature in Microsoft Word when in "Print Layout" where I could make the end of one page touch the beginning of the next page so the pages could be viewed seamlessly. There appears to be no way to do this in Writer Anybody know if this is possible in Writer?
As a work around I use WEb Layout to view documents. But everytime I reopen OpenOffice it defaults to Print Layout. Anybody know how to make it default to Web Layout when it is opened?

Slackware :: Openoffice Will Not Save To Nfs Share - Openoffice 3.2.0

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

May 29, 2010I have already had Vista installed on another drive and from what i've read on the webs you get to dualboot if you install ubuntu after vista. when i did install it (i installed on a blank hdd with no partitions, choosing the "erase entire disk" option since for some reason default option was attempting to eat a part of my windows 1 gb drive instead of using disk i specially made for it) and the grub 2 loaded for the first time, there was NO option to run vista. only 2 linux (normal and recovery) and 2 memtests. I've ran linux and went to google this. I found that i should add something to some config files in /etc/grub.d/From reading the readme file i understood i could add my own files that are named like NUMBER_SOMENAME and insert code into them. Aug 21, 2010I changed the default player for mp3 to audacious, which works fine, just that every time I doubleclick a mp3 file, a second application button appears in my taskbar saying "opening [file]" which looks like the default player. this program will eventually time out and go away, but it's still annoying - any idea on how I would go about fixing this?

now, i am quite habituated with default appearance of ubuntu, i found studio appearance is quite unusual (for me, menu layouts, panel everything).

Jan 18, 2011I'm using a ZaReason Terra HD netbook. I have not changed any of the default hardware, nor messed with any of the X or openoffice settings. For almost as long as I've had the computer, I've been getting random X crashes. The screen goes to black, dumps some text, and I'm given a series of options of what to do (low-graphics mode, diagnostics, exit to terminal). From what I've gathered, this only happens when openoffice is running (it can be in the background, it does not have to be the active application).
I really have no idea what to do or what is causing this. I've attached a log, and I will gladly attach whatever else might be useful. I've looked on the internet for help, and while I do see a lot of X and openoffice issues, they seem to be related to higher end hardware than I have. I'm running Ubuntu 10.4, openoffice.org 3.2, and using an Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller .
Note: the attached log is a text file, but I made it a .doc because it barely exceeded the file size limit for .txt .

Jan 3, 2010I just installed the latest version of OpenOffice (version 3.0.1) from Synaptic on Jaunty. OpenOffice can read MS Office 2007 files but cannot save in their format (docx or xlsx). So if I edit a docx document I cannot save it in the same format.
Why can I not save in the MS Office 2007 format? How can I fix this?

I did a search of the computer for files with "openoffice" in their name, but none would open as an executable. It's not in any menu either.
