Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

May 14, 2011I've upgraded from 10.04 to 11.04, in the process I did not get bookmarks saved. I've have since gone into the 'old' file system and have now gotten the old bookmarks.html file into the 11.04 file system. How do I get them imported into Firefox?

I have been looking for a replacement for ACT (I recently migrated from XP) and this looks like it might fit the bill. Is it possible to import all of my emails, contacts, folders etc from TB into Evolution. I would like to try it out and see if it works for me. I am in sales and need a program to keep track of leads.

Jul 1, 2010Shotwell keeps on crashing when importing either from a folder or my iPhone. I am using it on an S10 netbook. I tried several versions but keeps on getting the same problem. I am thinking of cleaning everything from Shotwell and reinstall. I am running Ubuntu on an iMac via vbox (with less resource) and do not get the problem.
I tried searching but have not gotten any solid answer to resolve it.

Nov 25, 2010When importing files from my digital camera, I find it less confusing to open a folder and then drag the files to where I want them on my hard drive rather than to have Shotwell do it automatically (as described by jennacav in this post). That's straightforward for photo files, but what about for video files? On my camera, they are stored in an AVCHD folder, which itself has several folders and subfolders. Does this mean that I have to drag the files over as a group, or is there some way they can be handled individually as photos can be? (I'm new to both Ubuntu and digital photography.....)

Dec 26, 2010I'm trying to set up my parent's PC to automatically import pictures (in the background without any prompts)from the digital camera when it is plugged in via USB. And also to back up their Home/Pictures folder via ftp. Is there a way to automatically import pictures in the background without any prompts? I am using Deja Vu to back up via ftp and it seems to work fine. There is an option for daily backup, but I don't think I can pick what time of day it backs up. Is there a better option than Deja Vu?

Appointments import successfully, but the start time (and end time) is advanced by 8 hours. For example, an appointment in Outlook with the correct start time of 12:30pm appears in Evolution with a start time of 8:30pm. I have confirmed that my system time and time zone are identical and correct in WinXP/Outlook and Ubuntu/Evolution.

(As before I used the Windows installer, and only had 30 GB, when I tried to fix this, I ended up accidentally deleting everything.) Anyway, I started to install, and I selected the option to import documents and settings. Well, now it's stuck at 83% and it says "Importing Documents and settings" It has been like this for about an hour now.
I am importing from WIndows 7 on my first Hard Drive, to my new installation of Ubuntu 10.04 on my second hard drive. Help is much appreciated. I really just want to get back to Ubuntu. Using Windows 7 the past couple of days has been pure hell. I hate my PC freezing every 2 seconds, and hoarding my RAM like candy. Ubuntu for me was pure heaven, and I would like my sanctuary back.

It's got a nice GUI but to someone new to the whole monitor calibration ballgame it's not that easy to work out. Is there a way I can simply import the .icm profile? Is that enough, or do I need to do more set-up after that? Do the changes in lprof affect everything that appears on my screen? (I mean, once it's set-up, I don't have to apply anything to various applications like gimp/digicam?)

Jan 22, 2011I've searched a number of forum posts and have seen similar issues but the specifics are different and I haven't yet found a solution. I'm running Gnome on Fedora 13 and clicked "Install Updates." About 513 packages were set to be installed, but I get an error midway through:

I've tried installing RPM Fusion keys and get an error saying they require "system >=15" (Fedora 15, I'm guessing?) and I don't recall ever adding these keys manually myself. Or if so, I can't recall what I did to get them in there.
I've read that some people can solve this by using a "--nogpgcheck" at the command line, but I don't know what the command line equivalent will be for this update. Ideally, I'd like to continue using the GUI updater since it offers all the info about the packages. So my hope would be to:
1. Identify the problem gpg keys
2. Install the right ones
3. Run the installer again and see everything work.

I was able to export the database from my localhost. Jun 16, 2010I dual-boot, and in Windows, I use an awesome program for music maintenance called MediaMonkey, which sadly, isn't Open Source, but still awesome nonetheless. Anyway, one of the things it lets you do is sort and import your libraries by practically any format you could find imaginable. I have that program setup to import and store my music in the following format:
G:Tunes<Genre><Album Artist><Album><Track Number> - <Track Artist> - <Track Title>.<Extension>
Is there a way to change the default setups in whatever music program I choose to use? It seems to be the same no matter what program I use if it's a GNOME-based program. I've used Banshee and Rhythmbox, but both only leave me with the following options:

Fedora Servers :: Importing XP Machine Fails
Oct 18, 2010We are trying to consolidate some servers to run as virtual machines on our F13 host.After booting into SystemRescueCD, we take a dd of /dev/sda (we initially did a dd of sda1 before realizing our error)We transferred this image (EDI.img) to our F13 VM host. and created a new virtual machine using the graphical Virtual Machine Manager using "import an existing disk image" and the same EDI.img file as the storage volume.
Unable to boot, I've done much googling to find the registry entries of MigrateIDE.reg - which I've manually added to the image's registry via chntpw -e /mnt/windows/WINDOWS/system32/config/system.Another forum's posting advised to boot from the XP iso and allow this installation process to "repair" the existing installation. I'm still sitting at a blank screen with minimal CPU activity. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to migrate a physical XP machine to be a virtual machine running under F13?
