Ubuntu :: Can't Find OpenOffice Executable

Feb 10, 2010

Because my internet doesn't work on my laptop, I installed OpenOffice through the debian package manager. Everything worked to perfection, except that I couldn't find the executable file!

I did a search of the computer for files with "openoffice" in their name, but none would open as an executable. It's not in any menu either.

Applications :: OpenOffice.org - Where Is The Executable File

Jan 14, 2011

I have recently installed OpenOffice.org and I can't find any executable file that actually starts up OpenOffice.

What is the equivalent to the old "soffice" executable which previously would start up OpenOffice?

I installed by executing the "setup" program after extracting the archive, I selected pretty much all of the items to be installed (at least the essential ones) and then let it install -- I didn't get to choose the path to install to, but I saw it stated that this would be installed under /opt.

I see two directories:

Neither of which contains any readily identifiable file that is the main program. What file should I execute?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Find Evince Executable

Dec 16, 2010

I can find all kinds of evince files but no executable or "link to executable." I can find all the other ubuntu installs, like gedit, gimp, etc. in my /usr/bin folder. But not evince. Even though Document Viewer runs fine.I need this because I installed Adobe reader (ugh) and it took over as the default .pdf reader. The simple ways of trying to return default application to evince did not work, so I searched here and found a solution (y'all rule) -- edited the mimeapps.list file. Worked great. .pdf files now open in Document Viewer by default again.

Except, Thunderbird is still using Adobe reader as default for pdf files, and to change that I have to browse to the program I want to use instead. (Evince does not show up in the "open with" options I get by right clicking.) Can't browse to evince or enter path because I don't know where it is and can't find it anywhere..

General :: Can't Find A Library - Get A 32-bit Executable To Run On 64-bit Ubuntu?

Mar 10, 2010

I am trying to get a 32-bit executable to run on 64-bit Ubuntu. I had to install multilib, and then when I ran the executable, I got this error:

Code:

./x86/bin/target_base_mac: error while loading shared libraries: libxml2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So I installed libxml2, but I still get that same error. The file does exist:

Code:

test@olds:~/simulation$ ls -lrt /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2010-03-10 13:05 /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2 -> libxml2.so.2.7.5

General :: Make All Files Non-executable Recursively Using Find Without Affecting Directories?

Sep 26, 2010

I need to strip the executable flag from all files within a certain directory and sub directories. Right now I'm doing it with a 2 step process

find /dir/ -type f -exec chmod ugo-x {} ;
find /dir/ -type d -exec chmod ugo+rx {} ;

Is it possible to modify the first line so that I can strip exec flag from all non-directory files? Since this needs to be done on a fairly regular basis across a lot of directories and files, I'd prefer not to use a bash script which would slow it down.

Software :: Openoffice: Disable Autocomplete Within The Find And Replace Box?

Mar 19, 2011

I don't want to go into a lot of detail as to why, but suffice to say, I detest autocomplete, anywhere, in any form. I'll leave it at that and save the venting for another time. Now, I've disabled autocomplete within a document, that's not too hard, by disabling the "Enable word completion." But, that seems to have no effect on the "Find & Replace" box. Googling doesn't seem to find anything, except another person that also seems to hate it on the OpenOffice message boards, and they were not helpful. That was also about five years ago, if that makes any difference.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Open An Executable File Because Of Executable Bit?

Jun 20, 2010

I am running into a snag on .exe files in Lucid. I have Wine installed, but I can not open the file as it is blocked from executing with a window popping up telling me that this file was blocked due to security reasons. I go into the files properties and try to change the permission but that does not help. Is there a way to get around this? Possibly in the terminal as root?

OpenSUSE :: 11.2 & OpenOffice 3.2 \ Find It Necessary To Extract Specific Data From Received?

Oct 14, 2010

Elsewhere is my question about 11.3. I have had to abandon that and 11.3 as my RAM is too small. Now, for the first time in many years, I find it necessary to extract specific data from received .pdf files. According to OpenOffice, editing of these files is only possible from version 3.2. My concern is whether this later vesion will be compatible with 11.2.OpenOffice installed is 3.1.1.4-1.1.4-i586. The same question has been directed to their Forum.

Slackware :: Openoffice Will Not Save To Nfs Share - Openoffice 3.2.0

Jun 5, 2010

I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.

Code:

wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh
#!/bin/bash
mount ~/TestShare
#echo "NAS Mounted"

[code]...

Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.

If not, using Java SDK 6, how can I run it? I'm assuming it's a terminal command since wine lets you get around the restrictions with a sudo wine command.

Ubuntu :: Getting Around The Executable Bit - Wine And Windows 95?

Jul 20, 2010

I have a copy of "Riven" for Windows 95 still laying around, and I decided to see if I could run it in WINE just for the hell of it. I got the following error when I tried to run the "Setup.exe" file (or any other executable on the CD-ROM, for that matter) using WINE:

Quote:

The file '/media/Riven1/Setup.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.I read about the executable bit, and while I understand the security reasons for it being there, I would still like to know if there's a way to circumvent it, or even a workaround. I tried chmod on the exe file, but since it's on read only media, that didn't work. I'm running Lucid.
