Ubuntu Servers :: Launch My PHP Files In Firefox ?

May 6, 2011

My problem is that I can' t launch my PHP files in Firefox to see them local.

I have Apache, PHP and MySQL installed.

I also moved my web folder to /var/www but still can't see them.

I can see the default html file: "It works!" but not my files.

Firefox is still asking what it should do with the file, if it should open or save it. But I can't see them.

Fedora Servers :: Unable To Launch Firefox From NIS Accounts

Dec 10, 2010

I have a problem concerning about launching Firefox from NIS accounts. But it works perfectly if is started on terminal by the the local root account.

I have several hosts that's connected to a NIS server. When I tried to launch Firefox from one of these hosts, I got no response (Case 1 below). Here are the scenarios:

Case 1 - Fail to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. But then I got no response from the terminal (the web browser didn't appear on the screen).

Case 2 - Success to launch Firefox as root: I login as root on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. The browser has appeared on the screen.

Case 3 - Success to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then from a terminal, I login as root (using "su"), then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as root. The browser has appeared on the screen. Then immediately, without closing the browser window, I opened a new terminal as NIS user, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as NIS user.

Ubuntu :: Can't Launch Firefox From External Hyperlinks

Jun 21, 2011

When I click on a hyperlink inside a PDF, email (Thunderbird), or other document (ex. AbiWord, LibreOffice) Firefox attempts to launch and it shows in the gnome2 panel (in the window manager with all the other applications) but when I click on it in the window manager to un-minimize/focus Firefox the browser crashes. Odd thing is this is only a problem if the browser is not yet open. If I have previously launched Firefox then click an external link it opens in a new tab just fine. I upgraded from Firefox 4 to 5 and the problem persists. I've only recently noticed this so it could be the result of something I did (installed/uninstalled) though I don't know what I could have done. Or, maybe I never noticed because I almost always have an open browser window.

OpenSUSE :: Cannot Launch URL From Thunderbird 3.04b To Firefox

Nov 14, 2009

This is a fresh install of 11.2 KDE-4.3.1.

After reviewing all of the 11.2 Milestone 64-bit DVDs, Milestone 1 - 8 - I was always able to launch Firefox from Thunderbird in search of add-ons or an html link.

It stopped working in RC1, RC2.

I thought this was resolved for openSUSE 11.2. The problem still exists!

Now, thinking the problem was with Thunderbird 3.0.4b. I navigated to Configure Desktop --> Personal Settings --> General --> Default Applications:

Changed Email Client from KMail to Thunderbird

From within KMail I can launch Firefox. However, Thunderbird 3.0.4b does NOT launch Konqueror nor Firefox 3.5.4 !!

In addition the Thunderbird 3.04b Help does NOT work.

Could the setting of Default Applications be broken in KDE-4.3.1 " release 6 " ??

I'm sure I cannot be the only one experiencing this at home???

I've done this previously on Windows with notepad just by adding the command 'notepad %1' to the appropriate entry in 'Web Developer'.

In Firefox under Linux Mint 9, I tried replacing that command with 'gedit %U' but nothing happens. I can launch gedit from a terminal, but how do I get it to run from another application?

Fedora :: F12 Two Versions On Boot - Cannot Launch Firefox

Dec 21, 2009

I installed f12 few days back. A pop up came which mentioned '336 new updates available' and I opted 'install only security updates'.

Now in the boot screen 3 options come instead of 2:
1. Fedora 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686.pae
2. Fedora 2.6.31.6-127.fc12.i686.pae
3. Windows

I am able to boot into both versions of fedora, but I cannot launch firefox it says-'your version of SQlite is too old and the application cannot run'. How do I correct the screw up. Should I re-install the whole thing....? why is it showing as 2 versions....? I installed yumex recently, is it the reason.....?

Fedora :: F14: GNOME Won't Launch Firefox / Thunderbird

Jun 8, 2011

Noticed this last night, when I try and launch either Firefox or Thunderbird using the GNOME menu or the quick launch icons, it fails. I am able to launch them both from the command line in a terminal. Other applications seem to launch fine, so I'm at a bit of a loss where to begin taking this apart... I do get a task in the task bar that says "Launching Firefox", but then nothing comes up. The same thing happens with Thunderbird. That task just goes away. Another odd thing - following a reboot the launch buttons work once. If I close them, they won't launch again unless I run them from a terminal window.

Debian :: Error: Cannot Open Display: 0 When Trying To Launch Firefox

So I just installed 32-bit Squeeze. I've done exactly two things since booting into the first install: pt-get install gtk+2.0, and ./firefox, so unless gtk did something, this might be an easily fixable problem with Debian itself. After installing gtk and trying to run firefox via command line, it tells me

Code: Error: cannot open display: :0 I googled a bit and couldn't come up with a solid solution, but the problem seems to be around other places. Any idea how to fix this?

There's also no config file in there either, and I don't want to replace my Aurora 6.0a2 Beta with the very unstable Alpha until I try it out. I would try it in the Virtual Machine but it'd take too long to set it all up.

I downloaded the .bz2 file and Archiver extracted it for me. I remember in Slackware you just use installpkg on .bz2 files... Or was it .gz... I forget, anyway, how can I run Nightly-Build? Run-Mozilla.sh opens my Aurora browser.

Ubuntu :: KDM And GDM Battle At Startup - Both Launch X Servers - Remove Duplication?

Apr 28, 2010

I have both ubuntu and kde-desktop installed, and after trying KDM, switched back to GDM which worked fine for a while (although KDE changed my other gnome settings like usplash and cursors which took a while to change back). A day later, though, when I start up my system, the screen flickers a few times then shows me a message that an x-server is already running, so hit no to try loading it on '0' again or yes to try another number.

If I hit no, it will briefly show me the KDE login screen refresh a few times and go back to the menu. If I hit yes, it refreshes about 7 times and finally shows the gnome login screen. This process takes a long time and I'm not sure is great for my screen.

Ubuntu One :: Android - Files Feature - Secure App Launch With PIN Entry

Sep 1, 2011

I'm a member of ubuntuone-android-hackers team on Launchpad, I work on Ubuntu One Files app. If you would like to see new features in the app, you can post your ideas here. I think the forums is a good and comfortable place to share ideas. We have already received quite a lot of requests via e-mail. Most notably, these have been already requested:

- secure app launch with PIN entry
- preserve folder structure when auto-uploading files
- real sync (i.e. reupload a file, that has been modified; sync down favorite folders; etc)

We continue to fix bugs and improve on what we already have, this is just to give you a place to share ideas on new features. We will select the best we can take on given available time and resources. I can't guarantee we'll implement them, I can guarantee however that we're doing our best and I'll be keeping track of this official thread.

Ubuntu :: Can Not Log Into Servers - Use A Https With Firefox ?

May 11, 2011

I can not log into our servers at work, Citrix, so; How do we use a https with Firefox?

I have Citrix Receiver installed, but one of the IT guys from work said to un-install it! How do I do that? and then they want me to load Cag from the web site...how do I do that?

Yesterday I put Win7 back on my pc at home - damn shame - and I was able to log into work through Internet Explorer, by putting the website in the trusted zone.

Am I supposed to do something similar with Firefox?

I found this on the net, and have done what it says...

Select a setup option:

1. Install Citrix Receiver for Linux 11.100
2. Remove Citrix Receiver for Linux 11.100
3. Quit Citrix Receiver for Linux 11.100 setup

Enter option number 1-3 [1]: 2

Please enter the directory containing the Citrix Receiver for Linux installation [default /usr/lib/ICAClient] or type "quit" to return to the menu:

The file is in fact the default, but I can't get the string to work!

Ubuntu Servers :: UNC Path In Firefox Not Working?

Dec 19, 2010

I setup Dokuwiki (local use only) and have done some testing. The following works under Windows in IE and Firefox: (Firefox needed some tweaks to open local links. no errors in the console)

[URL]

But it does not work in Ubuntu. I get Firefox can't find the file at ///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg I have to use the locallink plugin, and several clicks, and this syntax for it to work in Ubuntu. [URL] I hate having to open each link using several clicks and even more so, having to make two types of links in my wiki posts! (SMB:// does not work in Windows.)

192.168.0.150 is a WD NAS. I will also be setting up my software RAID 5 that runs on Ubuntu to hold data for clickable in links on the wiki as well. What do I need to do to get Firefox/Ubuntu to be able to click on and use file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg

Wirehsark shows NO PACKETS when I click on the link file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg, so Firefox is not even trying to find the file! [URL] I have tried epiphany and it did not work either. (No packets being sent either.) This seems to be a Linux issue.
