My problem is that I can' t launch my PHP files in Firefox to see them local.
I have Apache, PHP and MySQL installed.
I also moved my web folder to /var/www but still can't see them.
I can see the default html file: "It works!" but not my files.
Firefox is still asking what it should do with the file, if it should open or save it. But I can't see them.
I have a problem concerning about launching Firefox from NIS accounts. But it works perfectly if is started on terminal by the the local root account.
I have several hosts that's connected to a NIS server. When I tried to launch Firefox from one of these hosts, I got no response (Case 1 below). Here are the scenarios:
Case 1 - Fail to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. But then I got no response from the terminal (the web browser didn't appear on the screen).
Case 2 - Success to launch Firefox as root: I login as root on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. The browser has appeared on the screen.
Case 3 - Success to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then from a terminal, I login as root (using "su"), then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as root. The browser has appeared on the screen. Then immediately, without closing the browser window, I opened a new terminal as NIS user, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as NIS user.
I made an error by downloading and installing a new version of firefox. I do not manage any more to install the flash! I would also play World of warcraft but I have a little problem. I know it is not precise. But my english teacher would we make a discussion of anything in English, for 30 minutes. Thus it would be cool if anybody can contact me on <snip.> We could discuss about these problems with skype.

AbiWord, LibreOffice) Firefox attempts to launch and it shows in the gnome2 panel (in the window manager with all the other applications) but when I click on it in the window manager to un-minimize/focus Firefox the browser crashes. Odd thing is this is only a problem if the browser is not yet open. If I have previously launched Firefox then click an external link it opens in a new tab just fine. I upgraded from Firefox 4 to 5 and the problem persists. I've only recently noticed this so it could be the result of something I did (installed/uninstalled) though I don't know what I could have done. Or, maybe I never noticed because I almost always have an open browser window.

After reviewing all of the 11.2 Milestone 64-bit DVDs, Milestone 1 - 8 - I was always able to launch Firefox from Thunderbird in search of add-ons or an html link.
It stopped working in RC1, RC2.
I thought this was resolved for openSUSE 11.2. The problem still exists!
Now, thinking the problem was with Thunderbird 3.0.4b. I navigated to Configure Desktop --> Personal Settings --> General --> Default Applications:
Changed Email Client from KMail to Thunderbird
From within KMail I can launch Firefox. However, Thunderbird 3.0.4b does NOT launch Konqueror nor Firefox 3.5.4 !!
In addition the Thunderbird 3.04b Help does NOT work.
Could the setting of Default Applications be broken in KDE-4.3.1 " release 6 " ??
I'm sure I cannot be the only one experiencing this at home???
I'm trying to set up the Firefox extension 'Web Developer' to view the source of a webpage with gedit.
I've done this previously on Windows with notepad just by adding the command 'notepad %1' to the appropriate entry in 'Web Developer'.
In Firefox under Linux Mint 9, I tried replacing that command with 'gedit %U' but nothing happens. I can launch gedit from a terminal, but how do I get it to run from another application?
So I recently got a VPS from hostgator and am now looking to get xwindows or xorg installed so that I can launch firefox from my VPS, the issue is that I don't want to install a complete desktop environment. Is there a way to accomplish this? I have enabled X11 forwarding in ssh and in the putty session, but continue to receive errors about displays.

Now in the boot screen 3 options come instead of 2:
1. Fedora 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686.pae
2. Fedora 2.6.31.6-127.fc12.i686.pae
3. Windows
I am able to boot into both versions of fedora, but I cannot launch firefox it says-'your version of SQlite is too old and the application cannot run'. How do I correct the screw up. Should I re-install the whole thing....? why is it showing as 2 versions....? I installed yumex recently, is it the reason.....?
Noticed this last night, when I try and launch either Firefox or Thunderbird using the GNOME menu or the quick launch icons, it fails. I am able to launch them both from the command line in a terminal. Other applications seem to launch fine, so I'm at a bit of a loss where to begin taking this apart... I do get a task in the task bar that says "Launching Firefox", but then nothing comes up. The same thing happens with Thunderbird. That task just goes away. Another odd thing - following a reboot the launch buttons work once. If I close them, they won't launch again unless I run them from a terminal window.

I have a application which needs to load some jar files to the firefox browser, for which I am adding the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH in ~/.bashrc.The issue is when I launch the firefox through a shortcut, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is unset, and it just sets it to Firefox specific libs.Additionaly if I run firefox through command line it sets it perfectly fine, and appends the Firefox libs to the already set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

I got Thunderbird 5.0a2 Beta because it had the file that runs it in there, but I can't find it anywhere in the Firefox Nightly Build one. There's also no config file in there either, and I don't want to replace my Aurora 6.0a2 Beta with the very unstable Alpha until I try it out. I was running Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS and using flashpolicytwistd from Google Code to support flash-based telnet on two websites. After upgrading to 10.04 flashpolicytwistd no longer starts.

I also cannot locate the process with ps -e, nor can I confirm that it is listening on its assigned port (default is 843, I changed it to 4005).
No errors show up in the logs. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no change.

I have both ubuntu and kde-desktop installed, and after trying KDM, switched back to GDM which worked fine for a while (although KDE changed my other gnome settings like usplash and cursors which took a while to change back). A day later, though, when I start up my system, the screen flickers a few times then shows me a message that an x-server is already running, so hit no to try loading it on '0' again or yes to try another number.
If I hit no, it will briefly show me the KDE login screen refresh a few times and go back to the menu. If I hit yes, it refreshes about 7 times and finally shows the gnome login screen. This process takes a long time and I'm not sure is great for my screen.
I'm completely new to the Linux OS. It is very foreign to me, i'm very used to the way windows does everything, including how windows does installation. I know that Linux doesn't understand .exe files like windows does... which is part of the problem. I have a linux zip file of a program (Jgrasp) that I want to install. I unzipped it into my home file and then wanted to run the program, but I have no idea what to do next. How the heck do I run the program if i can't access the .exe's what files launch a program in linux?Also how do i get it to recognize the JDK files?

Instead, it brings up a dialog with the title Launch Application and asks me which application I should open it with. This seems to happen all of the file formats I have tried; namely pdf, zip, deb, and png. This did not happen from before the reinstallation.

Yesterday I put Win7 back on my pc at home - damn shame - and I was able to log into work through Internet Explorer, by putting the website in the trusted zone.
Am I supposed to do something similar with Firefox?

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 with Firefox 3.5. I am trying to open a local php file in Firefox. I already installed Apache2. I already installed the PHP5 modules for Apache2. I already tried restarting Apache2 and I cleared Firefox's cookies and cache. Apache2 is currently running and PHP is in the "mods-enabled" folder. Yet every single time I try to open a local PHP file, Firefox asks me what program I want to use to open it. I have no idea how to proceed at this point.

But it does not work in Ubuntu. I get Firefox can't find the file at ///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg I have to use the locallink plugin, and several clicks, and this syntax for it to work in Ubuntu. [URL] I hate having to open each link using several clicks and even more so, having to make two types of links in my wiki posts! (SMB:// does not work in Windows.)
192.168.0.150 is a WD NAS. I will also be setting up my software RAID 5 that runs on Ubuntu to hold data for clickable in links on the wiki as well. What do I need to do to get Firefox/Ubuntu to be able to click on and use file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg
Wirehsark shows NO PACKETS when I click on the link file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg, so Firefox is not even trying to find the file! [URL] I have tried epiphany and it did not work either. (No packets being sent either.) This seems to be a Linux issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhenever i try to download something i do not know where they are saved to. for example, i just tried to download the skype beta for ubuntu. the firefox download prompt pops up with the only option being "save file". i click save file and then the prompt closes and nothing happens.
how to handle such downloads.
im running beta 2 of 10.04 x64 and ive noticed a problem where for some reason whenever I download a file it always gets corrupt even though its a 100% complete.
Ive tried using wget instead to download the file and that worked fine
ive removed ubufox package and its now working fine

I have two computers one with Ubuntu Server (just for fun) and another with Ubuntu Desktop. I connected them with one LAN cable so there is no internet and what I want is to open firefox in Ubuntu Desktop and view the apache test page but I can't find IP address, ifconfig just displays the ipv6 one?
