Ubuntu One :: Android - Files Feature - Secure App Launch With PIN Entry

I'm a member of ubuntuone-android-hackers team on Launchpad, I work on Ubuntu One Files app. If you would like to see new features in the app, you can post your ideas here. I think the forums is a good and comfortable place to share ideas. We have already received quite a lot of requests via e-mail. Most notably, these have been already requested:

- secure app launch with PIN entry
- preserve folder structure when auto-uploading files
- real sync (i.e. reupload a file, that has been modified; sync down favorite folders; etc)

We continue to fix bugs and improve on what we already have, this is just to give you a place to share ideas on new features. We will select the best we can take on given available time and resources. I can't guarantee we'll implement them, I can guarantee however that we're doing our best and I'll be keeping track of this official thread.

Software :: Recommendations For Pandora / Mp3 Player With Android Remote Control Feature?

I am looking to setup a box to play music from Pandora and mp3 audio files over a wifi connection which will also have the ability to control the player from an Android client.I have briefly looked at XBMC and Boxee, but I have no need to play video files, so I not sure if those are overkill for just playing Pandora.

Several of our servers that do not have direct exposure to the Internet have the following entry appearing in their respective /var/log/secure files.Are these messages harmless? If so, is there any way or reason to suppress their appearing in the log files?

Fedora :: Multiseat Feature That Had Been In The Feature List At One Point?

Does anyone know what happened to the Multiseat feature that had been in the feature list at one point?To briefly summarise, a single machine with multiple graphics cards, sound cards, keyboards & mice provides multiple seats for users. Each user gets their own monitor, keyboard, mouse & perhaps audio. The rest of the machine resources are then shared.

The last I saw on the topic was this discussion, although I have a recollection that there was going to be support in a newer version of X.Org. I've googled around quite a bit, but can't seem to find anything.

Anybody know anything? It would be a great feature to have and it's frustrating to have had such an omission since F8 :-o

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Transfer Files From KDE To Android 5 Via USB

I have a new smartphone with Cyanogenmod 12 (based on Android 5) and a new ext SD card in the phone which has been formatted. I turned on "USB debugging" in Android and connected the phone to Debian KDE with a USB cable. The phone shows up and mounts, and I can browse the files in Dolphin and copy from the phone to the desktop, but I can't copy from desktop to phone or modify the contents, even on the ext SD card. In Dolphin I always get the same error message, "writing to camera is not supported", even though I mounted the device as MTP* (not PTP) and even though I'm trying to write to the ext SD card which is not even where the phone camera stores things.

I chose to mount as MTP within Android. I don't know if I also need choose an MTP option within KDE somehow, or how to do that.

I was hoping to get some pointers on how to rename files based on database entry. I got hundreds of thousands of files that has GUID name assigned to it. only way to find out the file name is to look up the database table. Its obvious that this is not efficient. I couldn't find any tutorials on how to do this. Please point me to right direction. A starting point would be very helpful.

I don't use the Trash bin because it does not really delete things,speaking from a security point Instead, I gotten used to 'shred' and 'secure-delete' .But to move around files, cut-n-paste is very handy.And I was wandering if items from the Clip get stored somewhere ?i realize that they get overwritten again and again in the clipboard but do they also get stored somewhere else?

i have an issue due to some high security requirements. what i want to do is to remove the files in trash folder permanently from the memory so that they cannot be recovered again. am aware of the "shred" command but i dont know if it can reach to files that are already in trash.I have found a solution but it requires to fill the whole unused memory with a file that consist of some ramdom bits and than deletes it:

dd if=/dev/zero of=zero.small.file bs=1024 count=102400
shred -z zero.small.file
cat /dev/zero > zero.file

Ubuntu Servers :: Launch My PHP Files In Firefox ?

My problem is that I can' t launch my PHP files in Firefox to see them local.

I have Apache, PHP and MySQL installed.

I also moved my web folder to /var/www but still can't see them.

I can see the default html file: "It works!" but not my files.

Firefox is still asking what it should do with the file, if it should open or save it. But I can't see them.

Ubuntu Security :: Secure-delete Won't Work On Larger Files / Sort It?

I'm trying to clean a hard drive and I'm using secure-delete but it just stands there and takes cpu power but nothing happens, I used -r switch first and nothing, so I tried it on single files, small pictures worked as intended but a simple 50MB MPG file just stands there as well and nothing happens.

I left it running for 24 hours and nothing happened but the cpu was working at 90-100% all the time :/

Any one know what's wrong? I'm using 10.04 UNR

Fedora :: Access Files Remotely But Remain Secure?

I would like to be able to access my data file that reside on my Linux machine at home from the Internet but I don't want to open any "doors" for lack of a better word that will compromise the security of my files. I am running F11 and I am using cable broadband and a Linksys router.I have been able to get ssh working with OpenSSH while I am at home but I don't really need or want to ssh remotely, I would rather setup what I think is called an ftp. I just want to be able to up and download files to my Linux machine.

I'm an Oracle DBA and started working for my current employer about 4 months ago. This past weekend an alert re: FS space brought my attention to /var/spool/clientmqueue (full of mail re: cron jobs) and the fact that sendmail is not running on our Linux servers.I'm told that the IT security team deemed sendmail too vulnerable so we don't run it.Aside from FS filling up and missing notification of issues with crontab entries, I'm concerned that we may be missing notification of potential issues. In other Unix/Linux environments I've seen emails from the print daemon when it experienced problems with specific jobs.

Are there other Linux facilities aside from cron and lpd that use email to advise the users of possible issues? Are there ways to secure sendmail or secure alternatives to sendmail? My primary need/desire is to make sure that emails regarding issues on the server get to the appropriate users. Secondary goal would be to have the ability to use mailx to send mail out. There is No need/desire to receive mail from outside.

I'm completely new to the Linux OS. It is very foreign to me, i'm very used to the way windows does everything, including how windows does installation. I know that Linux doesn't understand .exe files like windows does... which is part of the problem. I have a linux zip file of a program (Jgrasp) that I want to install. I unzipped it into my home file and then wanted to run the program, but I have no idea what to do next. How the heck do I run the program if i can't access the .exe's what files launch a program in linux?Also how do i get it to recognize the JDK files?

1-open all files in a folder when drag and drop the folder on it
2-search and replace a statement in all open files
3-have an extended mode which include special characters like

and so on.. i want to know if there is an editor with this feature in ubuntu?

Ubuntu Security :: HD Crashed, No Boot, Some Sectors Read, Access Secure Files?

I was running a 2-partition hard drive, Windows Vista (lamentably) on one partition, and the other running Ubuntu. I began having trouble with the Vista partition, so I attempted to move as many of the files that I really wanted to keep as possible over to the Ubuntu partition, and then reformat and reinstall the Vista partition. As a result, I could no longer boot to Ubuntu, and I consistently got errors back from everything that I tried on the Vista partition.

The only way that I can now access anything on the hard drive is to insert the Ubuntu install disk, go into trial mode, then mount the partition. At long last, here is the problem: Is there anyway to possibly make the partition bootable again so that I could burn the files to a disk? From trial mode I can get to a number of the files on the mounted partition, HOWEVER, they are secured with the username and password of my user account on that partition. Is there any way that I can access the files from the trial mode by entering my username/password?

I want to disable the XF86Search feature in my system. I will try anything.

One of my mouse buttons, when pressed, triggers this XF86Search no matter what I disable or change. (This feature opens up my browser and goes to a search page.) Strangely the mouse button is being interpreted as a key, not a mouse-button press. (This actually may be a bug in Ubuntu...)

How do I disable this feature?

I am running KDE 4.3.5 with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (Kubuntu). Though I use BTNX to configure my mouse buttons, this feature has absolutely nothing to do with that. I have tested by disabling BTNX completely and clicking this special button on my mouse still loads a search page.

The Pendrive Linux site states the following in regards to a USB Flash Install using their Universal USB Installer:
"Once finished, you should have a Live USB Ubuntu 10.0 that can be run directly from your Flash Drive, just as it does from a Live CD. Ubuntu's casper-rw feature IS ALSO utilized for persistently saving and restoring your changes on subsequent boots."

The part that confuses me is the second statement that the Casper-RW feature is utilized. Isn't that incorrect for the case of a Live Install using their Universal USB Installer? I later discovered that a Persistent Install can be created by downloading and using Version 2.5 of the Linux Live USB Creator. In this case, a second partition is created on the Flash drive for the casper rw feature. Is my understanding correct, or can the Pendrive Linux Universal Installer somehow create a persistent USB drive that will save data and settings?
