Ubuntu :: 9.04 - Wireless Router Connection Not Detected
Aug 20, 2010I fixed my overscan problem from last time by installing Ubuntu V9.04, the newest version for the PS3. And now I am trying to connect to the internet. Ubuntu does not detect my Buffalo Wireless - G High speed router. I have contacted the Buffalo support and they said that their router is not compatible with Linux. How Can I get Ubuntu to go on the internet? Can I try plugging and connecting the PS3's Ethernet port to my router/modem or will I have to buy a new router entirely? If I have to, what routers out there support Windows, Mac and Linux?

Mar 10, 2010I installed 11.1 when it first came out. The PC I used gave up the ghost and I bought a refurbie, HP xw4100 and installed the 11.1 drive in it. All works except Internet connection. I am befuddled, bemused, confused and at a complete loss! The router on USB is not detected.
Boot Time - Status blinks, LAN is OFF and remains OFF. DSL blinks several times.
Booted - Status continues and DSL blinks.

Mar 29, 2010I made an error by downloading and installing a new version of firefox. I do not manage any more to install the flash! I would also play World of warcraft but I have a little problem. I know it is not precise. But my english teacher would we make a discussion of anything in English, for 30 minutes. Jun 21, 2011When I click on a hyperlink inside a PDF, email (Thunderbird), or other document (ex. AbiWord, LibreOffice) Firefox attempts to launch and it shows in the gnome2 panel (in the window manager with all the other applications) but when I click on it in the window manager to un-minimize/focus Firefox the browser crashes. Odd thing is this is only a problem if the browser is not yet open. If I have previously launched Firefox then click an external link it opens in a new tab just fine. I upgraded from Firefox 4 to 5 and the problem persists. I've only recently noticed this so it could be the result of something I did (installed/uninstalled) though I don't know what I could have done. Or, maybe I never noticed because I almost always have an open browser window.

Nov 14, 2009This is a fresh install of 11.2 KDE-4.3.1.
After reviewing all of the 11.2 Milestone 64-bit DVDs, Milestone 1 - 8 - I was always able to launch Firefox from Thunderbird in search of add-ons or an html link.
It stopped working in RC1, RC2.
I thought this was resolved for openSUSE 11.2. The problem still exists!
Now, thinking the problem was with Thunderbird 3.0.4b. I navigated to Configure Desktop --> Personal Settings --> General --> Default Applications:
Changed Email Client from KMail to Thunderbird
From within KMail I can launch Firefox. However, Thunderbird 3.0.4b does NOT launch Konqueror nor Firefox 3.5.4 !!
In addition the Thunderbird 3.04b Help does NOT work.
Could the setting of Default Applications be broken in KDE-4.3.1 " release 6 " ??
I'm sure I cannot be the only one experiencing this at home???
General :: How To Launch Gedit From Firefox
Jun 29, 2010I'm trying to set up the Firefox extension 'Web Developer' to view the source of a webpage with gedit.
I've done this previously on Windows with notepad just by adding the command 'notepad %1' to the appropriate entry in 'Web Developer'.
In Firefox under Linux Mint 9, I tried replacing that command with 'gedit %U' but nothing happens. I can launch gedit from a terminal, but how do I get it to run from another application?

Is there a way to accomplish this? I have enabled X11 forwarding in ssh and in the putty session, but continue to receive errors about displays.

Dec 21, 2009I installed f12 few days back. A pop up came which mentioned '336 new updates available' and I opted 'install only security updates'.
Now in the boot screen 3 options come instead of 2:

3. Windows
I am able to boot into both versions of fedora, but I cannot launch firefox it says-'your version of SQlite is too old and the application cannot run'. How do I correct the screw up. Should I re-install the whole thing....? why is it showing as 2 versions....? I installed yumex recently, is it the reason.....?

Jun 8, 2011Noticed this last night, when I try and launch either Firefox or Thunderbird using the GNOME menu or the quick launch icons, it fails. I am able to launch them both from the command line in a terminal. Other applications seem to launch fine, so I'm at a bit of a loss where to begin taking this apart... I do get a task in the task bar that says "Launching Firefox", but then nothing comes up. The same thing happens with Thunderbird. That task just goes away. Another odd thing - following a reboot the launch buttons work once. If I close them, they won't launch again unless I run them from a terminal window.

I have several hosts that's connected to a NIS server. When I tried to launch Firefox from one of these hosts, I got no response (Case 1 below). Here are the scenarios:
Case 1 - Fail to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. But then I got no response from the terminal (the web browser didn't appear on the screen).
Case 2 - Success to launch Firefox as root: I login as root on the host, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal. The browser has appeared on the screen.
Case 3 - Success to launch Firefox as NIS user: I login as NIS user account on the host, then from a terminal, I login as root (using "su"), then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as root. The browser has appeared on the screen. Then immediately, without closing the browser window, I opened a new terminal as NIS user, then I tried to launch Firefox by typing "firefox" on the terminal as NIS user.

I have a application which needs to load some jar files to the firefox browser, for which I am adding the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH in ~/.bashrc.The issue is when I launch the firefox through a shortcut, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is unset, and it just sets it to Firefox specific libs.Additionaly if I run firefox through command line it sets it perfectly fine, and appends the Firefox libs to the already set LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

Jul 5, 2011I got Thunderbird 5.0a2 Beta because it had the file that runs it in there, but I can't find it anywhere in the Firefox Nightly Build one. There's also no config file in there either, and I don't want to replace my Aurora 6.0a2 Beta with the very unstable Alpha until I try it out. I would try it in the Virtual Machine but it'd take too long to set it all up.

I downloaded the .bz2 file and Archiver extracted it for me. I remember in Slackware you just use installpkg on .bz2 files... Or was it .gz... I forget, anyway, how can I run Nightly-Build? Run-Mozilla.sh opens my Aurora browser.

Jun 18, 2011I want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.
As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?
My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?
Networking :: Set Up A Laptop As A Router To Connect Wirelessly To ADSL Router?
Nov 6, 2009I have a desktop PC running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7, and a Eee PC 701 laptop running EasyPeasy Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to connect the desktop to the laptop with a wired connection (eth0), then the laptop to my ADSL router using wireless (ath0).
I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.
I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:
net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
Then I tried this on the laptop:
sudo iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface ath0 -j MASQUERADE
sudo iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT
This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.
But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.
Networking :: Network Setup - Router - Wireless Router Card ?
Apr 24, 2010I'm having trouble getting my network set up the way that I want it/had it. You see, when I first set up my network, I just had my cable modem going directly to my standard wired router (A D-Link DI-604), which had DHCP,and was connected to all of the computers on my network. I had one switch hooked up to one of the ports of the router, but this was a regular switch, and it would not try to assign IP addresses, it would just pass through the DHCP info as I wanted.
Now however, my network setup has changed. My room mate and I both got laptops, and we decided that we wanted to have wireless access so we didn't have to constantly plug in to the router.
Now my network is set up like this: The modem is hooked up to the router(DI-604), which is hooked up on the LAN side to our computers, our switch (which is hooked up to 3 more computers), and to a wireless router card (A Gigabyte GN-BC01).
The wireless router card has two jacks for ethernet. One for WAN, and one for LAN. The LAN side we have plugged only into the computer in which the card is installed.
Now the problem is this: The wireless router card comes with DHCP by default, and it's assigning addresses to the laptops and to the computer hat it's in, and worse, the IP addresses are on a different subnet than that of the main dlink router. The Main (dlink) router assigns addresses from 192.168.0.1 (itself) to 192.168.0.254, while the wireless router card assigns addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (itself).
Because of this, I cannot access services on the wireless network from my wired network or vice versa. The first thing I tried was setting the card to assign addresses from 192.168.0.12 to 192.168.0.253, however it just said "internal error" when I tried to do this. I decided that this may be because it sees that it was being assigned an address on it's WAN side on the same subnet. So the next thing I tried was disabling DHCP and setting the "LAN IP Address" to 192.168.0.12, hoping that the DHCP would just go through the card, like a switch. I would have set the LAN IP address to be assigned by DHCP, but this was not an option, so I decided that'd be the best thing to set it to.
Once again however, setting the LAN ip address to an address on the same subnet as that of the IP assigned to it's WAN side caused it to report an "internal error". I verified that this was the issue by setting the LAN address to several other private IP addresses to test (I.E. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.3.1, 192.168.5.12).
My question then really is: How do I set up both routers so that I can access services and computers from each network from the other network. Should I set them with different subnets and set the gateway on the wireless network to the main router? To the wireless router card? Should I put them on the same subnet? Will it know how to communicate?
