I'm trying to configure my server (Ubuntu 10.04) to use TLS when communicating over SMTP. I got a lot configured however when I try to STARTTLS I get "TLS not available due to local problem".

From the book I am using it says for me to configure apache2 to support PHP I need to execute "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 --enable-so". From what I can determine Apache2 is located in "/etc/init.d/apache2" folder. I used a Ubuntu 9.04 distro (I386 Server Ed.) to install the server. I added "Kubuntu-desktop" for viewing. Then performed web upgrade to Karmic 9.10. All went well !! Question is; Where do I execute a command to enable PHP support? Once again, the command is to look something like "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 --enable-so"

Sometimes when internet goes down and any mail send then it bounced back immediately saying domain not found. Can u please tell me how i configure to hold all mails in postfix server rather than bounce when internet fails and will pass through when restored the internet around 15-30 minutes?

Now amarok crashes whenever I go into configuration or browse through local files. I have tried reinstalling and deleting the directory ~/.kde/share/apps but no use.

I've installed F14 [32 bit] and trying to configure a HP DeskJet 812C on my local netowrk[lpd://192.168.1.35/PASSTHRU] However, the "New Printer" wizard calls KPackageKit that fails and reports, "Could not find printer driver in any configured software source". It is just a dead end!

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe common wisdom seems to be to setup an SMTP server (say postfix) so that connections either coming from the same host or where the end delivery is local can do so without using any authentication mechanism.
This will for example allow fetchmail to deliver fetched mail locally on port 25 (without logging in) for any user.
However, what if I setup the SMTP server to force every incoming connection to be authenticated regardless if the end delivery is local or relayed and regardless where the connection comes from.
Is it possible to configure fetchmail to use a password when doing the local delivery?
(I haven't been able to find any such configuration options in fetchmail.)
I was wondering is there a way I can install/configure an application to /opt instead of /usr or /usr/local like many do by default? I am most interested in install .deb packages in this manner how ever I am willing to compiling things from source if need be.

Ok, I have a couple of SMTP servers for our infrastructure. They are running Postfix. I have them configured so that specific email addresses such as support@mydomain.com and billing@mydomain.com all go to a new support server that I am building with osTicket. Lets call that server SUPP1.
SUPP1 runs sendmail from the default install of CentOS 5 i386. At this point everything runs great. New emails get added into the osTicket system via a pipe in sendmail. Here's where the problem comes in. In order to accept mail, sendmail has to have the domain listed in local-host-names and the addresses in virtusertable. That works just dandy. But in doing so, sendmail believes it is the destination SMTP server for "mydomain.com". That means that I can't send mail from that server back into my normal SMTP servers. So things like the LogWatch, cron jobs, etc can't send notifications. Is there a way to work around that? For sendmail to ignore local-host-names for outbound email or something?
I've followed several guides and am trying to get NFS working on my local network. For starters, I think I should be able to NFS mount a drive on the server (192.168.1.65) TO the server. From there I'll work with another client (currently 192.168.1.80)

The guides I've read seem simple, so I must be missing something easy. Can't figure it out, so I'm looking for help after googling for 2 hours.
After digging around trying to figure out how to upgrade my local apt-mirror to 10.04, I figured I would share it here so anyone else who does this, can do it with ease. It requires a few steps, and editing a couple files, but the process is relatively painless.This assumes you have an apt-mirror already running on your server. Also it assumes you're using /var/www/ubuntu as your root where all your packages are stored.
The first step is to visit http://changelogs.ubuntu.com and download the meta-release packages. Create a new directory, /var/www/ubuntu/upgrade, and drop the files there.On the client's end, a single file needs to be edited, /etc/update-manager/meta-release. Change the URI's in that file to the URI of your apt-mirror and run your update manager. Your upgrade will start, only asking if you want to change your paths in your sources.list. Agree to it, and the packages will download and configure.
Heres my situation. I have around 30+ systems running Karmic and more coming online everyday. I'd like to be able to have these updated via the local network to conserve net bandwidth. Is it possible to setup a single system which will download updates I specify, then make them available to the other systems on my network via some kind of local repo?
Of course I'm not looking to download EVERY repo, just the essential updates to the core OS. I really just want to eliminate that 45 min/256 file download that takes place each time I install a new system.

I am setting up my first server (which will be a file server when complete). I have some experience with a terminal, but not much. I'm not at all afraid of it, and want to learn more (one of the reasons I'm doing this project). At the moment I am trying to get the server to see my network. Using the info I found here: URl... I have been able to ping the router. I cannot, however, reach other computers on the network. The reason I wanted this is because I needed for my server to pickup a DHCP address from my college's DHCP servers in order to get an IP address. I have apache running and can access the files via all other computers on my network via the ip address i have it set to default to the /var/www folder with index.html as the main file. I am however having issues trying to access it from my other IP the one i found at what is my ip. I have even setup a no-ip address to it. I've forwarded port 20 and port 80 i've even given it the default dmz. I disabled the firewall on my router and I checked and my Ubuntu machine doesn't have a firewall whatsoever i can access my outside ip on the local machine and have access the problem i'm having is trying to access it from anywhere but home. I've recently had to rebuild our mail server - after the old one over heated - and I've realised I never backed up the config files for exim... so now tyring to work out how the hell to configure what I had....
The setup isn't the most straight forward, so I'll try and explain what happens...
- all emails @longdomain.com are received by an hosted server on the internet
- they are then forwarded to @shortdomain.com, the IP for which is our internet connection which fowards port 25 traffic to the exim server
- the exim server then spam and virus checks the emails and forwards them to an exchange server (sorry but it works well for us)....
I've installed exim4/spamassassin/clamav successfully, and it's setup to receive emails for the relevant domains and relay from the hosted server on the internet (and some local addresses).
how I then setup exim4 to foward all emails on the relevant domains to the exchange server?

I am in the middle of releasing a new product on one of my sites and have been making rapid changes to the site based on feedback from customers, etc. as my product has gone live...
My local server is NOT refreshing pages. I make a change, click "refresh" in my browser and nothing happens.
I have tried clearing my browser cache and it makes no difference. Eventually (several minutes later) my changes happen.
Problem is, I need to be making these changes rapidly, and I really prefer to check my work on localhost before uploading it to a live server where I'm getting a lot of visitors right now.
This is a very recent problem as I have never had this occur before. Running 10.04.
I had problems with my Ubuntu Server 10.4, so I reformatted and reinstalled (I only choose OpenSSH from the install menu), then after it rebooted I installed apache. So I can access the machine via web, ssh and scp from within my local network, but strangely outside my network I can access it from web, but not ssh or scp. Nothing has changed on my router.

I'm running Ubuntu Server 10.10 My clients can connect and get their own IP within my ip range (192.168.1.x) They can ping each other and I've tested I can use the connection a lan game and a windows RDP connection. The problem is I cannot access any of the actual local network devices except the vpnServer. Is their something else that needs to be done to allow full network access?
