how to make a local domain? I have a laptop and server in my localhost. How can I make so that when I type backup.home or something like that into chrome it points to my server? I have apache2 installed with some virtualhost and mypage.192.168.1.4(my server ip) dosent work I propably need a domain or something like that.

The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

On domain provider DNS servers, mydomain.eu points to my machine called solis (10.10.10.1; this is gateway, dhcp and dns server; eth0 is outsite, eth1 inside my network). I have also laptop which is connected to eth1 through wireless AP. From laptop and solis I have access to outside and inside network without problems. Of course my dream is to have access to solis from local network using name 'mydomain.eu' but not fully name 'solis.mydomain.eu'.

I have a postfix mail server on ubuntu 10.04 lts behind a router. so all local users are fetching/sending mails through ms outlook using local IP. Sometimes when internet goes down and any mail send then it bounced back immediately saying domain not found. Can u please tell me how i configure to hold all mails in postfix server rather than bounce when internet fails and will pass through when restored the internet around 15-30 minutes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used Likewise (specifically, likewise-open-gui) to add my computer to the Windows domain at work. I can log into the computer with my domain credentials.
Until I reboot.
If the computer ever shuts down fully, I get an authentication failure when I log in using the domain account. But if I log in using a local account and run likewise-open-gui again from there, everything works. I don't have to rejoin the domain, only launch the program, close it, and log out of the local account. This seems to allow me to log into the domain afterward.
Is there something in specific that I can add to my startup scripts that will connect me to the domain before login?

View 4 Replies View Relatedever since upgrading from karmic to lucid, i cannot ping fqdn hosts in .local tlds. nslookup & dig work, but most other utilities fail (ping, traceroute, etc...). i know .local is an invalid tld, but apple seems to have made it a defacto standard on private networks, so i'd imagine somebody else has seen this issue before... is there a simple fix that doesn't require managing hosts file entries on a bunch of systems?

The problem is that whenever I try to access the domain from my local network the lookup for the domain fails, as it cannot find the server from the local network. What's the most painless solution to this problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a *simple* MTA in my local network. The only thing it should be able to do is send system / daemon mails to admin@mylocaldomain. but at the moment I'm pretty much overwhelmed by everything i *should* know in order to set up this MTA
my infrastructure:
- servers:
* test01.mylocaldomain --> should send mails (with exim) to admin@mylocaldomain
* dns01.mylocaldomain --> dns-server
* mail.mylocaldomain --> mail-server (postfix / iredmail package)
I configured exim to be in "internet"-mode. now i have a variety of errors I can choose from (and a variety of solutions that i don't like ).. my test is always an email from test01.mylocaldomain:

- after running the config, i get the error: admin@mylocaldomain: all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts --> google says, edit and udpate update-exim4.conf.conf --> dc_relay_domains='mylocaldomain' --> but this exim installation should not be a relay at all. it should only be able to SEND (to this domain), not deliver it. or do i get something wrong?

I still can't find my domain I configured cant ping on other machines on the LAN but can actually ping on any other website on the internet even though name server is configured to point to local machine..... We were able restore data from backups; however the only info on the samba PDC portion of the server we have are the local and domain SIDs. Armed with only this info; is there a way to recreate the previous domain so the users and machine accounts could recognize it?

QPopper is running through xinetd and the config file is as follows

The problem is I get an error in the maillogs when trying to send mail from a PC on our local domain about the canonical client name which is to do with reverse dns. I understand this can be turned off at runtime of qpopper but nowhere seems to detail how to do this, apart from -R flag at runtime but as it is running through Xinetd I am not sure where to put it.
A few more details on the problem, if I VPN onto our network from my home desktop I can send mail fine. Receiving mail is also no problem, it is just sending. I have setup only our local domain in the access file for sendmail.

My machines should be named in a fashion similar to 'myserver', 'mydesktop' etc. so that i from a browser on any LAN machine may write 'http://myserver', and get the webserver on 'myserver' (so NO domain part, e.g. myserver.domain).
Do i need to create a DNS zone for each host or is there a way to put all host in a single zone, if so; which? Would such a name be considered a root domain?

configure my primary email server to connect to my ISP server and fetch all email from there and distribute to local user's mail box.
I have an internal domain (dev.lan) for which my Ubuntu server is authoritative. We have a number of subdomains under that domain (test.dev.lan, svn.dev.lan, etc.). The server also acts as the primary DNS server for my office. It was originally set up under Ubuntu 8 and worked great.
However, ever since we upgraded to Ubuntu 10, our Windows clients periodically lose the ability to resolve domains on the dev.lan domain. Internal IP addresses can still be pinged from the Windows machines so it does not appear to be a network-connectivity issue. External domain names continue to resolve without any problems. The only workaround is to restart networking on the Windows clients. It's frustrating because it happens several times a day.
bind9 logs no obvious error messages.

Ok, I have a couple of SMTP servers for our infrastructure. They are running Postfix. I have them configured so that specific email addresses such as support@mydomain.com and billing@mydomain.com all go to a new support server that I am building with osTicket. Lets call that server SUPP1.
SUPP1 runs sendmail from the default install of CentOS 5 i386. At this point everything runs great. New emails get added into the osTicket system via a pipe in sendmail. Here's where the problem comes in. In order to accept mail, sendmail has to have the domain listed in local-host-names and the addresses in virtusertable. That works just dandy. But in doing so, sendmail believes it is the destination SMTP server for "mydomain.com". That means that I can't send mail from that server back into my normal SMTP servers. So things like the LogWatch, cron jobs, etc can't send notifications. Is there a way to work around that? For sendmail to ignore local-host-names for outbound email or something?
