Networking :: Unable Virtual Hosting And Run It On A Local Machine Without Fqdn?
Jul 27, 2011I am a newbie trying to enable virtual hosting and run it on a local machine without fqdn. I checked the http://9.9.9.92/ (my IP address) site and saw my (default) page. I would like to virtuly host a asdf.com If virtualy hosting is setup properly - how do I access the new setup? Just type http://asdf.com ? or is there more to it?

Everything is well configured and web pages are shown correctly from Internet (outside the local network) using the domain or the public IP.The issue is if I try to see that web pages (using the domain or the public IP) from inside the local network. In that case the router config page (192.168.1.1) is shown instead of the web pages.From inside the local network I'm only able to see the web pages using the internal IP address (192.168.1.XX).

Jul 25, 2010I have a few ubuntu machines in my house, 1 mythtv backend server with other services as well, 2 mythbuntu frontends boxes hooked up to tv's etc. I wanted to push the audio from my laptop out over pulseaudio to the machine connected to the AV equipment.
I could not see any other pulseaudio sinks in padevchooser... this lead me down the road to investigating avahi.
When I run avahi-browse on my laptop (hydrogen) it only returns the services published from itself:

My laptop has vmware on it, and I've changed the vmnet intefaces to not support multicast so avahi ignores them. but I'm still at a loss to why my laptop can't see the other machines on my network with avahi (mdns).

Feb 28, 2010I have a reverse ssh connection established from a remote machine to my local machine - it is established with autossh from the remote machine - I know it is connecting because I can see the two ssh processes on the local machine - and, when I kill the two ssh processes, two new ssh processes are immediately established. But I cannot login to the port on the local machine. I have tried everything - it simply refuses to connect. This remote machine is miles away and not readily accessible.

I'm having a problem with what seems to be an iptables thing or something easier than that, Enough here is the question I can get apache to run on the local machine by either going to http://localhost or by the ipaddress on the CentOS machine. But for some reason when I try to take a look on my laptop (on the same network) and try to go to it using the IP address is doesn't go. I can ssh from my laptops but it will not open the apache startup page.

Jan 6, 2010I have a ubuntu 9.04 machine i'm using as a file server. I'm able to see that machine from any XP machine, connect to it's shares play music, movies, work off of it NO problems. But i can't view the shares from a windows 7 home edition PC (garbage). AND, from the ubuntu PC, i can't see any of the other shares on network. I get "Fail to receive share list from server".
NOTE: Originally i had this machine connected with wireless card because of location. and I was able to see all shares then - both ways (still not from Windows 7 PCs though). However, when I moved to hard wire connection, the network disappeared. I've tried changing IP addresses, changing switches, but no network. I'd like to keep it hard wire. Can anyone point me in right direction or am i missing information?

I scp stuff from my mac to it quite a lot over my local wireless network.At the moment, it holds a .sparsebundle backup of my mac created by SuperDuper! (mac backup application) that I periodically transfer over. I'd like to make this system a little more sophisticated and use Apple's Time Machine to automatically backup to my Ubuntu box if possible.

Jul 27, 2010I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

If however I type [URL] on that computer or any other on my wireless network, I get a page cannot be displayed. I checked that UFW was disabled and I am able to ping the motion computer from any other computer on my network. However, I have recently installed ubuntu 9.04 desktop edition on ANOTHER laptop and cannot get it to connect to the internet using this same modem and cable. When I plug in the ethernet cable it searches for wireless networks but won't recognise the wired network connection---Wired Network disconnected. Auto eth0 shows up under Network Connections and it has the MAC address and is set to connect automatically. I have tried restarting the computer and unplugging and plugging in the modem after about 15 min.
why I cannot just move my comcast ethernet cable from one machine to another?

May 31, 2011I have a weird issue where all of the machines in my office can all connect to our web server, either via DNS or using the server IP directly. However, on my machine, which is using the same network IP as the rest of the office and I know it's not being blacklisted, I can't access the server at all via SSH or web or mail. I'm the only machine running Linux, I've flushed the network cache using nscd, but this made no difference. Can anyone think of what might be going on here?
