View 9 Replies View RelatedI just came up with Linux/Xubuntu so I hope you I hope you'll excuse my "noobishness". I've Xubuntu 9.04 running on a laptop along with cups 1.3.9. I'd like to print on a toshiba 2820c which is connected to the local network. I tried to install it via localhost:631 what seemed to be working quite well since the toshiba is automatically detected and the driver (according to the printers manuel it's the same as for the 4520c) is already included. So I finish the installation and whenever I try to print something I am told that the job is sent and done but the printer doesn't even realise, that there was somebody trying to print something, at least there is nothing in the logs. I also tried to use the ppd-file from the toshiba-support but it failed again.

But for internet connection i have to go to windows. This is because ubuntu is getting connected to the network but is unable to access internet, whereas the windows can. I want to totally abandon windows. Recently i got internet connection in ubuntu for just 15 minutes or so when i ticked the option AVAILABLE TO ALL USERS. but after that the same story continues and iam not able to access internet. Details about Internet connection: This is not my connection, these signals come from nearby building. Its a wifi open public network.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn the 25th of January, one of my computers randomly stopped being able to connect to the Internet. It was running a dual boot (Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS & Windows XP SP2), and is connected to the network via an ethernet cable (no wireless). According to the Network Manager, everything is working okay (there was no change from when I was able to access the Internet).
When I would use Firefox, I would get the message "Waiting for (page)...". However, this is not a Firefox only problem, as every program requiring Internet access (e.g. Evolution) is unable to connect to the Internet.
I compared the Internet settings to those of my father's Windows XP SP1 computer, which is able to connect to the Internet. There was no difference, except for the IP Address and Hardware Address. Because of this, I incorrectly deduced that either the actual Ethernet cable or the wall plug was faulty. I tried using a different cable and connecting to the Ethernet wall plug used by the aforementioned computer. Nothing changed. I was still unable to connect.
I didn't worry about it until Tuesday, when my other computer had exactly the same problem. It is running a triple boot between Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows XP SP2, and I am unable to obtain Internet access using any partition. As with the previous case, my computer showed no change in the Internet settings, and the computer also shows it as being connected to the network. It is also connected via an Ethernet cable.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000, and I installed Ubuntu before and it worked flawlessly until I decided that I had to go back to Win7 because of certain program compatibility issues.I'm back here trying to set it up and am having no issues except for with my wireless. I can see all of the SSID's, I am able to connect to my wireless, and it displays that I have been assigned an IP and all of the other settings given by DHCP.
I have been trying to fix this for hours, googled, searched these forums, and have spent time with some people on the Ubuntu IRC channel and we are unable to come up with a fix.

The strange thing is that although nothing will load when I try to visit facebook.com, google.com, or any other website... I opened the update manager and I noticed that it would download for 30ish seconds, stop and do nothing for 60ish seconds, resume for another 30, stop, resume, etc. until it finished. I am able to ping my router, and 8.8.8.8, but I am unable to ping [URL].
I am on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Installed LAMP yesterday using:
Code:
sudo tasksel install lamp-server
Tested Apache, PHP, MySQL then, all worked fine.

I upgraded to 10.10 the day it came out, and haven't had any problems with internet stuff. My wireless card works without any proprietary drivers. Last night, the computer stopped connecting to the internet. I am still connected to my wifi network, but I can't do anything online. I had assumed that my internet connection was just down in general, and tried resetting the computer, shutting down the computer and then turning it on again, and rebooting the modem, but then my Xbox connected, and my laptop running 10.04 connected, so I'm confused as to what is going in. Any ideas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using SuSE 11.3. I have installed this betavine stuff with which I can use my Vodafone mobile connect usb device. (vodafone-mobile-connect-2.10.01-1.noarch.rpm + dependencies.) I was able to get it to run, it can connect, I can even send text messages (SMS) with it.
However, if I try to use the internet, the system behaves as it wasn't connected to it at all. ping doesn't see anything, neither does firefox etc. I have turned off all proxy and firewall settings.
I suppose I should tell Linux to use this connection for the internet, but how? Do I have to configure something with NetworkManager?
I did search, but could not find a solution.Right I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 on an old machine, installed fine and the system is running. I have a windows 7 desktop that is connected to the internet via wireless. The desktop then has an ethernet connection which is shared to the ubuntu server. The network looks like this.
Modem > Router > Desktop > Switch > Ubuntu Server My problem here is that there appears to be no connection from the server to the desktop. The server cannot connect to the internet.
When i ifconfig the ubuntu machine shows.eth0 link encap:Ethernetinet address: 192.168.137.2 Bcast:192.168.137.255 Mask 255.255.255.0 However on the windows desktop (the machine sharing the internet) these are the details for the connection to ubuntu server.ip 169.254.170.50 mask 255.255.255.0
is this a dhcp problem? is my server configured wrong?
Background infoMy laptop (MySN MG6.c) is dual-booted with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10, and connected to the internet through a router (Digitus DN-11004-O), which is set-up to use DHCP. The internet connection works fine under Windows, and my previous laptop, which also ran Ubuntu 9.10, had no problems connecting to the internet through that router. The network adapter is an Atheros AR8131 PCI-E (also detected as Attansic under Ubuntu)stem infoResults from running various diagnostics (I have removed the output that relate to the wireless connection, as I don't use it):

I have two networks. One of them is wired, the other is wireless. The wired has an internet connection and a few other computers connected to it. The wireless network has a few hosts connected to it too, but it has no internet connection. What I've been trying, fruitlessly, to do, is make all connections that are bound to the internet, or my wired network, be routed that way, and all the connections to the hosts of the wireless network go that way.
Here's the setup..
Wired:
192.168.1.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Route internet through here
Wireless
192.168.2.0/24 Gateway = 192.168.2.1
If my computer sends a packet to the internet, it should be routed through 192.168.1.1 If I send a packet to one of the local hosts of the wireless network, it should be routed through 192.168.2.1. Here's the routing table I've set up(This is one of many configurations I've tried)
Code:
$ ip route show
192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 scope link
192.168.2.0/24 via 192.168.2.1 dev wlan0 src 192.168.2.4
[code]....
With this, and everything else, I get destination host unreachable when pinging. The strange thing is that, if I unplug my eth cable, reboot and connect to the wireless network, everything is fine and I can access the router and the others. I'm trying to improve my networking skills, as I've had this of setting up a small linux box as a router for quite some time, for the fun of it, but I need to get routing under control before I go ruin my network.
I just installed, and evolution doesn't seem to think it has internet. The icon with the power cord in the bottom left is unplugged, and send/receive is greyed out. Internet is working , but it is not using network manager, since network manager says no internet is connected. Maybe this has something to do with it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10 with fluxbox installed. Occasionally my internet connection will stop working, but when I check on wifi radar, I'm still connected to the network. The router is not plugged into a computer at the moment, just the cable jack. It is likely a hardware problem however, since my other laptops also experience disconnects. Any help beyond "change the cable" would be greatly appreciated. For instance, even though I am connected to the network, I cannot post at the moment due to lack of internet connection.

But I can access internal addresses (local router).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless network (192.168.1.0) that's bridged to the Internet and a wired one (192.168.0.0) that's only local. When I am connected to both networks, Natty wants to route my Internet traffic through the wired, local-only one.
Can I make it automatically "just work", so that the right network is chosen for Internet traffic? Otherwise, what's the workaround?
I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. I am setting up my first server (which will be a file server when complete). I have some experience with a terminal, but not much. I'm not at all afraid of it, and want to learn more (one of the reasons I'm doing this project). At the moment I am trying to get the server to see my network. Using the info I found here: URl... I have been able to ping the router. I cannot, however, reach other computers on the network. Nor can other computers ping the server.I am looking for a newbie guide on how to connect to my local network.
