View 2 Replies View RelatedI use different browsers for sites like facebook and general browsing (specifically rekonq for facebook, firefox for others).
However, I find that Flash cookies are shared between browsers, and are not cleared when clear my browser cookies.
Flash cookies are kept in ~/.macromedia, and it's OK for me to clear this periodically with a little cron job. However, I would really like separate places for flash cookies from rekonq and firefox.
Does anyone know how to do this? Maybe there is an environment variable which allows this?
My second implementation option would be to make a chrooted environment for each browser or something like that.
IMDB gives me a "recently viewed" list of pages I viewed recently (and a few of them were months ago, since I don't go there too often) at the bottom of every page I view. My cookies are enabled for session-only, have adblock plus, my ip changes every day, how are they doing that? How can I prevent it? What other websites are using the same trick? At this page [URL] there's a link there that says "Clear entire history", but I want to disable them from being able to track me like that, if they can track me, so can others.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe problem started happening a few days ago. Only my linux computers are affected. Yup, that's right. My roommates running windows have zero problems.
What's the problem? Suddenly, I cannot access 2 websites: namely facebook and netflix. I just get a "waiting for facebook.com" status from my browser, and it waits there patiently until the browser finally gives up. I haven't found any other sites that give me this issue. Gmail, ....., flickr, etc all work fine.
This happens using both firefox and chrome browsers. I've tried using Ubuntu 10.10 (on my desktop) and Peppermint (distro based on ubuntu, runs on my laptop). Both machines access the internet via wifi. Both have the same problem! o_O
Both machines are up-to-date. I've rebooted many times. I've tried booting an old kernel. I haven't installed any new software lately. I've tried disabling all plugins for the browsers. I've tried power-cycling our internet modem. I've tried changing my DNS settings to use Google's Public DNS service. Nothing helps.
Actually, one small piece of information: If I put my browser in incognito mode, I can get to the "sign-in" page for both facebook and netflix. But upon putting in my credentials, I still cannot reach my custom user home page for either site.
I believe it is a keylogger because my Facebook account has been hacked, I believe my email has as well. I heard that even if you reformat a harddrive, the virus could still sit there and apparently that is what happened to me. how to be rid of it and keep my security. I installed RKhunter and Chkrootkit. Rkhunter reports warning files while checking my filesystem. I can post a log if need be.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am facing a problem concerning secure websites where I get the "Connection Reset" error in browser after a timeout of I think 1 minute.
OS: Fedora 14 ( I faced same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 )Browsers: Chrome and Firefox
The issue is not there on Windows using Chrome and Firefox so I believe this is a problem with how linux manages secure connections. I can access all the google secure websites too. There a few other websites apart from facebook.com that I know which I am unable to access.
My network diagram is internet<---->dansguardian proxy(centos5)<--->my network i have blocked facebook for my network but now i want to give only 2 ips to get its access & i do not want to enter these ip in exceptioniplist as if i doo so then they will be able to access all the sites that i have blocked. and if i am giving this entry [URL] in bannedsite list it is also not working.....

View 1 Replies View RelatedBrowsers under Debian distros used to allow cookies per site but now it seems it is all or nothing. Perhaps I should install another web browser. I have Epiphany and Iceweasel.
My main problem is that I cannot set non-volatile the number of results per page in Google to 100.
I understand that a website can set a cookie which means a little text file with a no. in it will be created on the client side, and then the no. will get sent to the server with every visit. But how is this used to customize a page? Does this mean that a MySQL database *has* to be created, which can be used to match up that no. with a particular login name, for instance? How exactly is this pulled off?

View 8 Replies View Relatedso i want to remove all cookies from my firefox, seems like lots of ways to do this, none of which work?
tried, edit pref privacy show cookies remove all cookies all cookies appear gone but on restart are all back again tried tools view all cookies remove all cookies
same result. anyone any idea how i can do this tried to manually delate cookie file from ~/.mozilla/firefox/somecode.default but that didn't work either, failing that how do i remove firefox and all config files with yum, like --purge option for .deb systems?
Firefox used to work fine, then I played around (only) with privacy settings, and now it deletes all cookies (including ones set to expire in a month) at the end of the session. It is set to "remember history". Moving to a new profile is not an option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was curious if I would be able to view cookies from a command prompt when ssh'd into a machine. On a test machine running fedora 13, I found that the cookies were stored in a cookies.sqlite. I made sure that all instances of Firefox was closed and attempted to view the file running the following command
sqlite3 cookies.sqlite
It loaded but I was unable to run view any of the information because the database was locked? There were no instances of Firefox running and I check to make sure there were no services of Firefox running as well. Am I doing something wrong? Is this not the correct way to view cookies from the command line ? I have tried google searches and has since been unable to come up with anything.
I can manage my printer through the web browser interface in 12.2 without cookies but in 13.1 I need to allow cookies.
When did CUPS start requiring cookies to be enabled to use the web browser interface?
Is there an option to disable the cookies requirement?

I am using the direction at [URL] under the "Webmin In A Sub-Directory Via A Proxy" section. I had this setup working before, but I think an update of either Webmin or Apache broke it. Your browser does not support cookies, which are required for this web server to work in session authentication mode I have tried adding the ProxyPassReverseCookieDomain and ProxyPassReverseCookiePath directives to my virtual host config file, but it still doesn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I was trialing a SUSE 11.1 SP1 version for a while and somehow I have NO clue it attempted to change itself to a OpenSUSE 11.1 System. I have no clue what I did, please don't ask Now though I have been successful in turning into an OpenSUSE 11.2 system by changing the repositories to OpenSUSE 11.2, doing a "zypper refresh", "Zypper in Zypper", "Zypper dup -d", "Zypper dup". I also did a repair and refreshed the base packages with an OpenSUSE 11.2 DVD and that seemed to help also. The only thing it seems I can get right is that yast/yast2 give me this error: Download failed: Failed to download ./repo/repoindex.xml from https://nu.novell.com/?cookies=0&cre...NCCcredentials

I currently have a user on my Ubuntu server that I want to block completely from login. I know right now they login with SSH keys so they don't need to enter their SSH password. Can anyone tell me how to remove the SSH key login for their username and root user which I believe they use too and block SSH access alltogether.I will then just change the root SSH password.I'm terrified they will do some harm so I need them blocked out ASAP.

I am used to, on starting Ubuntu on my Netbook, being prompted with a password challenge to open my Keychain required to authenticate against the WPA enabled WiFi network.
Now, Ive recently installed Ubuntu on a desktop PC, along with some dev tools (Code::Blocks etc.) but it gives me a keychain access challenge about 4 times on startup. I can't seem to figure out which app is trying to (get my permission to) access my keychain, and for what Purpose.
(By contrast: on my Mac, when an application tries to open the keychain, the application, its certificate, and the search data of the matching key that will be accessed are all displayed making it much easier to determine what app is being naughty) How do I do simular diagnostics with Natty?
When I cancel these requests, nothing "breaks".
I have installed an Ubuntu server and it running OK. Before making it a production server, I want to make sure one day if the OS corrupts accidentally, I can still access the users' files on the hard disk.
I burned a Ubuntu desktop live CD, and booted it with this machine. There are 2 hard disks on the server, both could be mounted automatically. However, I can only access some folders like lost+found.
The questions are:
1. how can I access the other folders, given I have the root password of the server.
2. is there a way to access all folders without knowing the users + passwords?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a new ubuntu server, and I am quite new to linux. This server will be used as code repository for a project I am going to be working on. I plan to setup 3 groups for users: dev, test, doc
- for various developers, testers and documentation users.
I would like to setup the following permissions on the main code repository directory:
dev - write permission
test - execute permission
doc - read permission
public (anyone outside these groups) - deny all access
I am unsure what chmod setting to use, or if this is even possible in ubuntu.
