Slackware :: Option To Disable The Cookies Requirement?

May 11, 2011

I can manage my printer through the web browser interface in 12.2 without cookies but in 13.1 I need to allow cookies.

When did CUPS start requiring cookies to be enabled to use the web browser interface?

Is there an option to disable the cookies requirement?

Ubuntu :: Live USB Can Disable 'format' Option?

May 23, 2010

I have a Live install of ubuntu 10.04 on a USB drive which is really handy. I've changed some things around so it's just how I like it.However, if for example I'm using a computer running windows, and I plug this USB stick in, a popup appears asking me if I want to reformat the drive. I'd much rather not have this appear because an accidental misclick would make me have to do all the work of reinstalling/customizing my USB.

I know how to turn of the popup for a particular machine, but I was wondering if it's possible to deny permissions to format the USB if it's plugged into any computer. Best case scenario would be if you were to plug the usb into any computer and click 'format' you would get a message prompting for a password first (not the one for the computer, one relative to the USB) or something like that.

Debian :: No Option In BIOS To Disable Hotplugging For Array

Feb 20, 2016

I was using Arch Linux and encountered an issue with dmraid because it thought my array was removable, which it wasn't. Without any answers or being able to revert to an older kernel, I gave up and switched to Debian, which read my array fine. However, today I updated Debian (sid) and got the 4.4.0 kernel, and the same problem came up... Right now, I'm still running 4.3.

According to this link:URL....the problem is clearly because of the kernel, though technically, the kernel isn't wrong. But unlike the people in that link, I don't have an option in my BIOS to disable hotplugging for my array.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - Remove/disable Automatic Login Option

Jul 5, 2010

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. I've created two user accounts, one for admin purposes and the other for standard users. At boot up, I have the option to pick one of the created accounts or select "automatic login." When I select automatic login, it logs me into the admin account. I've double checked that the "don't ask for password" option is not selected on either account.

The only thing unusual that I did was select the "don't ask for password" option during the install, and then later (after the install was complete) decided that's not what I wanted and unchecked it.

I need to accomplish one of two things. Either change it so the auto login applies to the standard user account, or remove the auto login option from the login screen altogether.

Ubuntu Installation :: "Delay Prior To Thermal" - No Option To Disable This BIOS Setting ?

Oct 14, 2010

H/W : Intel 1.6GHz, BioStar U8548

S/W : Ubuntu 8.04 + RTAI + EMC2 (CNC controller)

In configuring CNC controller system, latency-test must be run to find maximum jitter of the system. It counts about 17,000 ns for few minutes, then it suddenly rise to 260,000 ns. It is impossible to control CNC with such large jitter.

In tracing this problem, I found that Award BIOS setting "Delay Prior to Thermal" is firmly engaged in making a problem. When I set this setting to 4 minutes, it makes large jitter periodically with exact 4min 15sec period. When I changed this setting to 8 minutes, its jitter is 8min 15sec period.

But, there is no option to disable this BIOS setting.

I heard that ACPI enabled OS can take over the ACPI function of the BIOS (which may include this "thermal" setting), but RTAI tuned kernel don't include ACPI modules.

Is there any solution to this problem ? If I recompile kernel with RTAI with ACPI processor module enabled, would it be a another problem maker ?

Slackware :: Config Option For Usb Wifi Rt2x00 Modules?

Jan 5, 2010

I have a system using a Linksys WUSB54B usb wifi adapter that needs the rt2x00/rt2500 modules. Using the fresh install kernel, 2.6.29.6-smp, the modules are there and I get my interface up.

But, when I configure my own kernel, not an smp system, I cannot find the .config option in the menu for rt2x00 network adapter support and the modules are not in /lib/modules/vmlinuz-2.6.29.6-first directory tree after a "make modules_install".

I looked through the configuration menu, but could find no reference to the rt2x00 drivers.

How exactly is this pulled off?

Slackware :: How To Disable Cpu Throttling In 13

May 7, 2010

I'm trying to install ATLAS which requires disabling cpu throttling. Normally one can do it in the BIOS, while there isn't such an option of my dell inspiron 6400. Actually there is a SpeedStep option in the BIOS, however, you cannot get the highest but the lowest performance by disabling it (dell!!!).

After googled a lot, I found in some distros, there is a /usr/bin/cpufreq-selector through which one can disable throttling. But it doesn't exists in slackware.

I known that by appending kernel option "acpi=off", one can disable the whole acpi and thus the throttling control in slackware, but it seems so dirty.

Anyone known a better way to do it?

ps: With a intel T2050 cpu, i didn't find the directory /sys/devices/system/cpu1, but only the /sys/devices/system/cpu0. Similar case in /etc/acpi. it seems that slackware treats my cpu as a single core one, while it is not.
