View 4 RepliesI installed 11.04 server and had samba share /tmp (as advised by the server pdf doc) shared to my windows 7 laptop, which was all well and good, so copied some files to it and rebooted the server, and they had been removed.i guess i shouldnt have put anything in /tmp as i presume this is cleared on reboot, so why did the documentation advise to create /tmp share?

I have two administrator accounts, user1 and user2. I log in as user1 (with ssh, will test regular logins tomorrow), /home/user1/.Private gets mounted to /home/user1, everything is fine. I log out.
I log in as user2, and /home/user1/.Private is indeed unmounted. But I can do

which will ask me for the password of user2, and then I am logged in as user1, /home/user1/.Private is again mounted, without ever typing the password of user1.

We are having an issue with our application where once we start making a few hundred connections to our Linux server, our connections are staying in the established state. When our app is working fine, the client sends a basically a heartbeat every five minutes. It is all nice and clean, receives the FIN and shuts down and that's that. tcpdump as follows:

I use full encryption on this net-book, with the help of LUKS. One key part of the setup is to configure /etc/sysconfig/bootloader with the initial boot options (along the lines of

I am running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7). The server was recently rebooted and wouldn't come up. After some investigation we found that the system would not boot because several files had been zero'd out (not deleted):
* All of these files had a date of March 11, 2010 with a time 03:46
* A zero byte file called /halt was also found with a date of 08:46
We could manually boot to the latest kernel, but none of the startup scripts would run. We analyzed the system looking for any file created on March 11 that were also 0 bytes. Once we had a list, we were able to determine that the system could be recovered without a full blown reinstallation of the OS.
We did a rescue boot from the installation CD, mounted the system volume privately, and edited the grub.conf file. We then brought up the network and copied the needed files from another RHEL v4.7 system. Rebooted the server and check the OS, databases, and apps.
My question is - Has anyone seen this behavior before? I seems like we may have been cracked or at the very least someone has cleared the files needed to recover the system smoothly.

I understand that a website can set a cookie which means a little text file with a no. in it will be created on the client side, and then the no. will get sent to the server with every visit. But how is this used to customize a page? Does this mean that a MySQL database *has* to be created, which can be used to match up that no. with a particular login name, for instance? How exactly is this pulled off?

Firefox used to work fine, then I played around (only) with privacy settings, and now it deletes all cookies (including ones set to expire in a month) at the end of the session.It is set to "remember history". Moving to a new profile is not an option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was curious if I would be able to view cookies from a command prompt when ssh'd into a machine. On a test machine running fedora 13, I found that the cookies were stored in a cookies.sqlite. I made sure that all instances of Firefox was closed and attempted to view the file running the following command
sqlite3 cookies.sqlite
It loaded but I was unable to run view any of the information because the database was locked? There were no instances of Firefox running and I check to make sure there were no services of Firefox running as well. Am I doing something wrong? Is this not the correct way to view cookies from the command line ? I have tried google searches and has since been unable to come up with anything.
I can manage my printer through the web browser interface in 12.2 without cookies but in 13.1 I need to allow cookies.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use different browsers for sites like facebook and general browsing (specifically rekonq for facebook, firefox for others).
However, I find that Flash cookies are shared between browsers, and are not cleared when clear my browser cookies.
Flash cookies are kept in ~/.macromedia, and it's OK for me to clear this periodically with a little cron job. However, I would really like separate places for flash cookies from rekonq and firefox.
Does anyone know how to do this? Maybe there is an environment variable which allows this?
My second implementation option would be to make a chrooted environment for each browser or something like that.
How do I empty the cache in Firefox? All I can figure out how to do is delete cookies.

I am using the direction at [URL] under the "Webmin In A Sub-Directory Via A Proxy" section. I had this setup working before, but I think an update of either Webmin or Apache broke it. Now, I can go the the webpage and I see the login screen. However, when I try to log in, I get an error.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason I was trialing a SUSE 11.1 SP1 version for a while and somehow I have NO clue it attempted to change itself to a OpenSUSE 11.1 System. I have no clue what I did, please don't ask Now though I have been successful in turning into an OpenSUSE 11.2 system by changing the repositories to OpenSUSE 11.2, doing a "zypper refresh", "Zypper in Zypper", "Zypper dup -d", "Zypper dup". I also did a repair and refreshed the base packages with an OpenSUSE 11.2 DVD and that seemed to help also. The only thing it seems I can get right is that yast/yast2 give me this error: Download failed: Failed to download ./repo/repoindex.xml from https://nu.novell.com/?cookies=0&cre...NCCcredentials

I used to use CCleaner so I could keep specific cookies from being deleted while I deleted all others. Is there any way I can do this with Ubuntu? Firefox doesn't seem to allow it other than manual deletion which is not as fast an automated as CCleaner made the task.

I'm new to Linux, so I decided to try using Wubi to get started. THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..

What is the difference between the Ubuntu Installer for windows and the Ubuntu CD image? If I use the ubuntu installer for windows, does it have the capability to partition my drive, will it enable to share files with windows etc or is it just a way not to have to burn a CD. Just curious, the exact details of the installation files were not made clear on the website. Note: Windows Version: XP, 32bit, SP3. I have not partitioned anything yet.

However, grub does not load (presumably because its on disk0 and my machine appears to boot from disk3), so the machine goes straight into windows 7.
How do I get ubuntu to load?
