For some reason I was trialing a SUSE 11.1 SP1 version for a while and somehow I have NO clue it attempted to change itself to a OpenSUSE 11.1 System. I have no clue what I did, please don't ask Now though I have been successful in turning into an OpenSUSE 11.2 system by changing the repositories to OpenSUSE 11.2, doing a "zypper refresh", "Zypper in Zypper", "Zypper dup -d", "Zypper dup". I also did a repair and refreshed the base packages with an OpenSUSE 11.2 DVD and that seemed to help also. The only thing it seems I can get right is that yast/yast2 give me this error: Download failed: Failed to download ./repo/repoindex.xml from https://nu.novell.com/?cookies=0&cre...NCCcredentials

The red updater icon alerted me to about a dozen patches, which started to install, then halted with an error: Download failure from download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss. When I try to update repositories, the same error recurs for that repo and also for .../oss and download.opensuse.org/update/11.2/,
If I attempt to "register for support to get update repository," clicking on Configure Now and Next produces the same three error messages: "Failed to download", one for each repository. The screen then returns to Registration, with another error message "an error occurred while connecting to the server". Clicking on the Detail button show exactly "ERROR:"
This AMD desktop machine with this install of 11.2 has updated many times in the last few weeks. Has something changed? The update servers do respond to a ping, so they are up and apparently I have connectivity.

Starting Yast and then config. repos. gives this error: There were errors while restoring the repository configuration. Error refreshing service Packman Repo (http://packman.inode.at/suse/11.3/packman.repo):Parse error: repoindex.xml[1] Document is empty
If I continue my repo list and software management both come up okay and function as they should (nothing noted yet anyway). Is this just something that glitched when adding the Packman repo and the file repoindex.xml[1] should be deleted?

I'm having problems with the Flash plugin since yesterday. It is caused by a file which is not available in the repo:

download failed The Flash plugin is NOT installed. In that archive the file adobe-flashplugin_10.0.42.34.orig.tar.gz is missing, but there is a file for 10.0.45.2. I couldn't figure out how I can install this version (does not even show up when I select all software sources including backports).

Error: RPM failed: installing package xen-4.0.0_21091_06-0.1.1.x86_64 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystemI seem not to be able to change the size of the /boot, but 11.2 loads okay but not 11.3There only 19MB left from 66 and I can't make it bigger, I hope there is someone thathas seen this. We have a server for which the root password had been lost, and there were no other user accounts set up. Yesterday evening I attempted to reset the root password by booting from the install CD and using VI to clear the root password in the passwd and shadow files. I then rebooted, and the system has halted with an 'FSCK failed. Please repair manually and reboot' error, with a prompt to 'Enter root password' below. But of course the root password isn't known (I had expected it to blank after editing the passwd and shadow files, but it doesn't work), so I have no way of logging on.

I am running Ubuntu 10.4 with Apache2, SVN and SSL. Both HTTP and HTTPS are working correctly with my website. Although the SVN setup I have is not working. This configuration gives me a 403 error.

I wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

How to recover from a failed OpenSUSE install. The situation is that I have a striped RAID set up on two 500Gb drives running Windows. I wanted a dual boot setup, and I tried to install OpenSUSE but it failed with a Grub error 18. This, I understand, is caused by my BIOS not being able to access the part of the drive with the /boot on. Because I have two 500 Gb disks, the OpenSUSE /boot partition is beyond the BIOS's addressing range.
The recommended solution seems to be to put the /boot at the start of the HDD - but then I'd need to move Windows after it somewhere. But I don't know how to do that and it seems a risky, longwinded business. I've given up on the OpenSUSE install. My problem is that the failed install has grabbed about half of the diskspace for its purposes. Question therefore is: how can I reclaim that space for Windows?

This is an example of the error I receive when trying to do an update via YaST, YaST2, or zypper. Basically, curl is broken. With out it functioning normally, I can't use openSUSE's update mechanism to fix my system. I tried to install openSUSE 11.3 from the Gnome live CD. I had four partitions set already for /boot, /, /home (ext4 all) and swap from a previous failed Linux Mint installation. I installed into them, and formatted them. The /boot partition is primary and pretty well into the disk. The other partitions are logical and at the end of an extended partition which has several partitions before them. There's also an inactive Windows primary partition at the start, and a second disk with a Windows installation and a lot of logical partitions.
After install, it looks like booting into grub works fine, and I get "Error 22: No Such Partition". I then get to the GRUB menu. If I choose openSUSE from there I get:
Booting 'openSUSE 11.3'
root (hd1,2)
Error 22: No Such Partition
Booting from the live CD it looks like /boot, / and /home contain data, so they must be formatted fine.

So I installed this system with the net install disk. I really don't want to do that again. It said it needed one update shortly after install and I figured that a net install would pretty much be up to date and I would be fine to wait on that for a day or two. Wrong. I used bit torrent for about 20 hours and downloaded ~60 GB's to the external hard drive. After a while while clicked the little update button closed every thing else then hit apply.
Walk off, come back and the computer is completely non-responsive and the monitor is not getting a feed from the tower. Not even any num-lock blinky light action on the key board. I gave it a minute or two to show any kind of life then turned it off. It came back on well enough to get online and post this but, like the title indicates, that package manager appears to be broken in some way. In Debian based systems there is a command that clears this up. Is there an equivalent for this distro?

The above pertains to a fire fox update of some kind. I still have the install disk handy but would rather not wait the 3 hours it takes to download the packages. How I can fix this. I switched from Ubuntu to SUSE because it is supported by online learning soft ware I have access to.

I just installed opensuse 11.4 64 bit. Compiz and everything was working fine on my ati card (mobility 2600) with the default radeon drivers. I added the gnome 3 stable repo, updated fine. But when I rebooted I get booted into the fallback with no 3d effects and it says "gnome 3 failed to load" What gives? The drivers were working fine with full acceleration. I know gnome 3 works on this card, I tested it on the fedora live cd just fine.

I read somewhere that I should deactivate IPv6, which I did with no success. It seems to happen since I upgraded gnome following this link : Archive:GNOME 2.30 - openSUSE My Internet connection is of course alive and working.

I am a total newbie to Linux (I've only been using Ubuntu for a couple of months) and decided to buy openSUSE and give it a try. So I inserted the disk into my computer and accept the terms of service and stuff and then it said that it failed to excecute bcdedit.exe. I'm trying to install openSUSE by Windows 7 by the way. I've searched the forum and found a tutoiral, but it was for Windows XP which is totally different to Windows 7 and not even the application names are the same in the CP.
