Recently i upgraded my dvd writer from pata to sata, now i install LG sata dvd writer into my system, now my problem is that its unable to detect in my fedora 8 box , but i can successfully boot fedora 8 from this dvd writer.i have a kernel version 2.6.23. solution for this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been struggling a bit with install F11. F10 installs without issue. I have two internal SATA drives, a PATA DVD-ROM and a USB drive. The BIOS recognizes everything. However, when I got to the disk partition utility, Anaconda could never detect one of the SATA devices. I tried swapping cables, ports, etc. No luck. Today, I ran across this Bug thread: [URL] I checked the screens Ctrl-Alt-F1-6. Nothing obvious. But, for fun (from the bug thread) I went to the prompt on 2 and ran:
dmraid -r -E It found an "nvidia" RAID "thingy". Forgive my ignorance on what it really is called or what it does. Anyway, I answered yes to erase the "thingy" and voila. I was able to install F11. Not sure if I made a good title, but I've seen bits and pieces of people having similar problems with F11. And BTW, the drive that had "nvidia" on it was from a machine that was using nvidia hardware RAID 0 - but F10 had no problems with it.
There is a FC4 Server with A8V-MX mobo currently running 2x WD500 SATA drives in RAID1 with a third WD500 SATA drive for data backup. This machine has been running 24/7 since January 2007.The plan is to replace the WD500s with WD 2TB SATA II drives in a similar setup as above. i.e. 2 drives in RAID1 and the third drive for data backup.Definitely looking to do a clean Fedora 14 install on the 2TB but have some questions.
1. Will Fedora 14 detect the VT8251 connected SATA drives?
2. If not, how do I get drivers so it will? (I have the mobo CD with makedisk, but prob for windows)

I have a sata card in my RHEL5 server that is not working. It has a 1.5tb hard drive attached to it that I would like to use. It seems that the 2.6.18 kernel did not detect and use it by default. I was able to find some info about the

I have an Asus P5K motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo 8400. It has 2 SATA hard disks, a 250 GB Seagate and a 500GB Hitachi.
I've been running Fedora 10 x86_64 for 6 months on this computer without problems.
I'm trying to do a new Fedora 11 install on this computer but the installer (Anaconda?) only detects the Hitachi disk.
I've tried to make a new Fedora 10 install to check if it was a media or disk problem and it detects the two hard disks.
I've tried to install it via a Live CD, and the installer only detects the Hitachi disk. The LiveCD detects the two hard disks, I can access it, partition, format, write, but the installer only detects the Hitachi.
I've tried to change from Enhanced SATA (AHCI) to Compatible in BIOS without success and I've changed SATA cables from one disk to the other, changed the disk order and nothing.
Must I enter some boot parameters for Fedora 11? Has the LiveCD installer some options?
my last hard drive had bad sectors so we got a new hard drive from newegg. this is a brand. new. hard drive. never been formatted before. so i started with the windows setup disc to get it to partition the drive and give kubuntu (working off 10.04 its ordered from canonical) something to work off. it still didn't work. so i got gparted on here to see if it could - im running off the live cd - do anything with it and i find that kubuntu doesn't even recognize there is a hard drive there. i got into the terminal to check the sudo lshw -C disk thing and it swears 'C' is my cd drive.
My bios is also as high as it can go, they stopped making my board. so. any ideas? i cannot install windows as i have lost the key so getting this installed and fixed has to be done through ubuntu on a live cd.
would it be possible to clone an IDE hard disk (on which I installed Fedora 10) on a SATA hard disk, and that programs can succeed
View 10 Replies View RelatedJust what the title says ... I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 and it does not detect either 300G SATA drive in my system. One of them is /home for my non-OS software and the other is used for data storage.
It does detect the drive (SDC) where I have 9.04 installed, but /home is on one of the SATA drives. Where to start? 9.04 works just fine, but I'm running tio problems with FLASH web sites insisting I have to upgrade Flash and Adobe doesn't have anything for 9.04.

I have just changed my OS from Vista to Linux Fedora 10. After looking at my system I notice my SATA drive was not recognised its my 2nd drive. Is this a normal think or can it be fixed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a working F-10 box with an older motherboard (pre-sata). The p-ata ports are full (4 drives), so I'm trying to add a sata controller and another drive. The sata controller plugs into the pci bus, but is not detected by the bios (very old). After booting, the OS loads the driver module(s) and detects the new controller and drive. I was able to add the new sata drive into the LVM system using system-config-lvm. All was fine until I rebooted.
I get pages of lvm errors and booting fails. It looks like it's trying to mount the volumes before the sata controller is modprobed. Is there a way to get the os to modprobe for the new controller before trying to mount? The extra drive space is on a data partition, not the boot partition.
Somehow Fedora 12 does not find one of my Sata drives (Seagate Barracuda 500GB) on the motherboard (Asus P5Q pro). The drive is attached to SATA_E1, which is a Silicon Image Serial ATA RAID connector. The drive currently has Windows Vista 64-bit OS which has been working fine. Fedora install loads correctly without errors, but only shows my RAID system on SATA ports 1-6.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
I have tried showing RAID as IDE in the BIOS, and setting it to compatible mode. Still does not detect.
I have tried setting the drives to ACPI mode in BIOS. No effect.

I'm installing the x86_64 version of Fedora 12. I have run the Debian i686 installer and it picks up this volume without issue.
I tried to load Red Hat Linux 4 on my PC, which has 945 MB, Core 2 Duo Processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB SATA HDD. But i couldnt do so as it did not detect the hard drive and was asking for drivers. I changed the SATA settings to Legacy but still it didnt recognise the HDD...I have Windows XP SP3 also installed on it.

I tried to install 2 more sata drives(total 8 drives), tested some combinations: 6 drives in sata ports and 2 in sas ports, or 2 in sata ports and 6 in sas ports... the BIOS can detect all 8 drives, but the fedora 7 and 12 just detect 6 sata drives. So i cannot boot.I tryed rescuecd, does not work either.i tryed many kernel params to disable sata at boot but it seems to be builtin.there is no option in the bios to disable the hard drive.

Trying to install SUSE on a perfectly working PC that was running Windows. Blew away all the partitions and formated the drives.When trying to install SUSE, Installer will not detect my two hard disks. I have purchased a DLink Sharecenter Pulse NAS as my PC failed. I wanted to put the two SATA drives in and extract the data before formatting to use as JBOD or RAID. However, before I managed to access my data, the setup software started formatting the drives. I switched it off immediately.
Purchased a SATA to USB2 lead and connected to my work laptop but I cannot see the drive(s). Used Partition Magic and each drive has 3 partitions - of which show about 74GB as used and 2 x 512MB as not. Looks like the drives have been partly set for Linux but the format was not comlete. Have tried to use explore2fs to read them but I cannot access the 74 GB partition only one of the 512MB partitions.
I'm a bit stuck now - any one got any ideas how I can get my files off the 74GB partition before I put them back in the NAS to format.
I have fedora 10 and vista in my system. however,all was working fine ,but suddenly today when i tried to boot into fedora , i found that the avahi demon was not starting , and when the systemn booted , a message was shown that thre wasn't enough memeory space , and a blacjk scereen was shown , then i booted into vista and tried t acess the linux partiotion by Explore 2f software... At first it showed not enough memory space , but on rescanning the partition,it is showing the /boot folder.So how do i delete some data in fedora ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Dynabook 2010 laptop and I want to install DSL linux on it.The problem is when I boot with DSL Linux there is no hard drive named /dev/hda1 and fdisk -l command does not return.How can I overcome this problem?And I could only boot into DSL if I use the nofstab as a kernel parameter.when I boot with fstab then kernel panic will occur.
I again checked, now there is a /dev/hda but my hda should contain two ext3 partitions.But the problem is the kernel doesn't recognize them.I got debian in my Had disk too.The problem is debian can recognize these two partitions.
I got a Western Digital 500GB SATA drive, installed Vista on it no problems and made sure to leave about 120gb of unallocated space when setting up the drive. Went to install F12 via the live CD and it says no drive was detected. If I take the live CD out then it boots into Vista no problems so the drive is definitely connected OK.
I was using the 64-bit version of the live CD so I downloaded the 32-bit version but I have the same problem! The motherboard is an Asus P5QPL-AM if that makes a difference.
I am installing Fedora 15 for the first time - Fedora-15-x86_64-Live-KDE.iso. I used LiveUSBCreator to copy to a memory stick.
I boot OK and start the install process and choose "Basic Devices" but it does not appear to detect my only hard drive (SSD). All it detects is the USB memory stick that I booted from.
I have Windows 7 on my disk. There is about 50GB free space which I planned to use for Fedora.
I just installed Fedora 12 from a DVD . The process completed without incident.
I then inserted a DVD into my internal drive and nothing happened.
I then logged out and logged in again as root, and tried again-same result; nothing!
Could it have something to do with the new PolicyKit? I didn't have this problem with Fedora 11.

I have had about 0% success getting everything to work correctly doing a fresh install of F9. Everything works correctly in F7( sound, firefox/flash, networking, samba, etc ), so I figure that starting with something know to work and upgrading to F9 might be a better approach that starting with F9 and having it guess.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed netatalk for Linux in Fedora 10. I managed to get the service starting correctly at every boot and from Linux side everything looks good. I even manged to tweak avahi-daemon to advertise my server on the network so would show in Finder sidebar (with a snazy tux icon). But when I try to connect to the server it asks me for username and password (as it should), but my password doesn't work. I changed my password, I even gave it a simple one to rule out possibility of "fat-finger"-ing. No success.
I tried many options in my afpd.conf file. Here is the latest code...
