Software :: Make Nvida-settings Start Automatically In Xfce?

Jun 13, 2010

I've looked at the Arch wiki entry for configuring NVIDIA cards/drivers, and I found that you can put the command nvidia-settings --load-config-only into your DE's session startup configs to make it launch automatically upon login. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this under Xfce. I've already tried modifying /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml with the following:

Code:
...
<property name="Client4_PerScreen" type="bool" value="false"/>

[code]...

Ubuntu :: Make A Command Run Automatically On Start-up?

May 27, 2011

I have a lenovo thinkpad laptop, and it has both touch-pad (standard build in laptop mouse) and touch-point (in the middle of the keyboard) mouse options.

I almost invariably use the touch-point and the accompanied scroller and key-buttons.

HOWEVER, for the scroller to be recognized by ubuntu you must run two scripts as follows:

xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation" 8 1
xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Button" 8 2

Restarting the computer resets these settings, and you must re-run them each time you start up ubuntu.

I am looking to write a script that will automatically run itself (which will execute the above commands), or to permanently change these settings so that it will not be necessary to run them at each start-up.

Thanks in advance, and if there is another thread on these forums that I should move to (or even just another thread that would be a more likely place to get a response). This seemed like the best forum (one which can certainly hold this post without violating any rules), but I may have missed something.

Ubuntu :: Make Ibus Start Up Automatically And Quitely?

Jan 20, 2011

I used to input Chinese with scim input method, which can be trigered by Ctrl^Space. But this time, I reinstalled ubuntu 10.04, I have to manually start up ibus from System>Preference>ibus firstly before I can triger the input method by Ctrl^Space.

This is not over, the key problem is there are several dialogues to click "ok" with before I can really use the scim.

How can I make this ibus startup automatically and quitely?

I tried put command "ibus -setup" into my .profile, it does start up the ibus automatically every time when I login, but the dialogues still bothering me.

General :: Make Openbox Automatically Start To Use A Specific Gtk Profile?

Jul 7, 2010

I have switched to openbox from Gnome and would now like to stop using Metacity altogether. When I was using metacity I had both a control theme (e.g. gtk theme) and fonts set up how I liked them in gnome-appearance-proporties. When Openbox starts, it gets my window borders up properly (ofc.) but fails to render my fonts properly and uses the wrong gtk theme. I can't find anywhere to specify which gtk theme to use or what method to render my text with. After Openbox is finished doing it's thing, and I run gnome-apperance-properties manually, it will automatically set everything to it's proper value, but I don't want to have to do this as it takes several seconds to preform and I'd rather not have it jury rigged like this.

I've been Googling all day and cannot find the answer. I find all the "GUI" ways to do it through Gnome and KDE but I'm not using either...I have an EEE PC set to boot up automatically to openbox and want Firefox to start after that in a full screen openbox window.I've tried adding the firefox command to ~/.initrc but it won't execute. I tried the command in .profile. This brings up firefox on a black screen without openbox.Firefox comes up fine when executed from the openbox menu.

Software :: Cannot See Display Settings In XFCE?

I thought I'd try XFCE having used fluxbox for a while now, always keen to try something different. I've installed everything XFCE related from the package manager and it is mostly working well. The problem that I am having though is that I cannot see the display settings. When I try to access them through the menus I am presented with the following:Unable to start the XFCE display settings - The video driver does not support video outputs. My graphics card is GEForce 7050/nForce 610i. nVidia drivers are all up to date. So far I've been unable to find an answer on XFCE forums.

Ubuntu :: XFCE Desktop To Load Up Automatically Without GDM

Jun 6, 2011

I'm making a Home Theatre OS, and I would like my XFCE ubuntu desktop to load up automatically without the use of GDM. This is because once remastered, the GDM cannot automatically log in until it's been set up to again. And the fact I removed all the GNOME icons which took up 50MB of space, so now the GDM interface is all glitchy xD

It basically involves removing GDM, logging in (the login and password are both 'media'), then having an automatic login command to run 'startx'. I've removed GDM on my test environment, and so far managed get in manually by logging in and typing startx. (On that note, do I even need a username and password? Can't I just use the password only for su?)

OpenSUSE :: XFCE Settings Applets - Documentation

Apr 21, 2011

When I click on "HELP" in some of the XFCE settings applets, I get an error. It looks as if the software is looking for the help under "/usr/share/doc/xfce-utils/" whereas the documentation is really stored under "/usr/share/doc/packages/xfce-utils/". I can add a symlink as a workaround. But before I do that, I thought I should ask whether there is a configuration file somewhere that allows setting the documentation path.

Debian Multimedia :: Xfce 4.6 Won't Remember Desktop Settings

Mar 3, 2011

My Googling about this said to make sure xfdesktop was running. I have.Changes made to the panel, to startup and session persist. But number of workplaces, wallpaper, font, theme and so on revert to what they were before. These settings are from when I used Xfce before in Ubuntu 8.04. (My /home dir is on its own partition and I like to keep all my config files for apps I have used and might want to again.)I suspect I might need to delete a config file but I'd rather not undo all of the other settings that do work. Which? Or is it something else?

Debian :: Xfce-session Does Not Start After Boot?

Dec 15, 2010

This morning I did a minimal install of Debian to test out xfce and lxde, purely out of curiosity.I tried LXDE first. For various reasons I wasn't entirely pleased, so I removed it and installed xfce4 in a vanilla openbox session. Upon reboot, I was greeted with the CLI. I generated a new xorg.conf file to see if the transition to xfce had altered it, but was greeted with the CLI again after another reboot. I manually started X with 'startx' and noted that the xfce session manager was installed. The xdm session manager, however, was not.Installing xdm fixed the problem, kind of. I am now greeted with an xdm login screen rather than an xfce session login screen. What can I do to have xfce-session be my default login screen?

How to i make sure sync to vblank is forced? i prefer it this way.

OpenSUSE Install :: Enable Autologin With Xfce / No "Login Settings" Option In This Menu?

Dec 26, 2010

I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Xfce 4.7.0 and I want to enable automatic login. What I have tried so far:

1) YaST -> User and Group Management -> Expert Options -> Login Settings. This didn't work because I have no "Login Settings" option in this menu.

2) Editing variables "DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN" and "DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN" via YaST -> /etc/sysconfig Editor. This didn't work too and xdm was still asking about name and password no matter what I set here.

3) I don't know how to configure xdm, so I tried to replace xdm with gdm. Gdm worked, but application "gdmsetup" was missing from my installation (YaST simply don't offer this package) and I don't know how to set up gdm manually, so I ended without autologin again.
