I've been running Ubuntu for about 2 years now. When I first put it on my Dell it was 9.0x. My HDMI port worked just fine to connect to my Plasma to watch movies on. I've only ever connected it 2-3 times. Since Fall '08 I haven't used it again. I never needed to.
Since that time, it stopped working. When available I upgraded to 9.04, 9.40 and now (effective 10.23.10) 10.04. It just doesn't work anymore. Neither VGA or HDMI. I can only assume S-Video will be the same story. Video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8400m GS. Driver is version 173. I installed NVTV tv out (Nvidia Video output controller). It does nothing. When NVTV is typed into terminal, it says; Fatal: No supported video card found.
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE

I have a Dell inspiron 1420 and its set up as a dual boot. Windows/Fedora.I cant get the wireless card to work. I review some previous posts but still cant get it working.
I did a /sbin/lspci

How do I get 'the Desktop effects' to work on M1530?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
i've installed openSUSE 11.2/KDE. Installation process finishes with fun. The first thing that i wanted in my laptop don't work. That's wireless internet. I've google and google. saw many thereds in openSUSE forms and check what i understand after reading thereds. Finally what i understand is i've to install firmware. I've downloaded the b43-fwcutter and broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar. Installed b43-fwcutter. and copy broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar. in to root. by using

Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.
I have loaded the latest version of opensuse and I have everything working but I cannot connect to my wireless WPA2 network. I have downloaded the bcm43xx firmware using the method /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware I then restarted the network. The computer will now read the network card and will find networks but I cannot get it to connect at all. At first it would connect using ifup in yast but would disconnect after a few seconds. It would never connect through NM. I have a usb network card that works just fine. I am lost as to how to fix this problem.

I read the thread about the b43-tools but the git command on there fails.

The card works it just will not connect. I think I have that rev 3 issue where I need to edit the SPROM but I can not seem to get the b43-tools installed.
Cannot connect to my wireless through my card. I recently decided to bring my old Dell Latitude C840 laptop back to life with Ubuntu 10.04. I am a total linux beginner but it seemed like a fun exercise. Everything seems to work fine and the system runs great on the computer. I haven't explored too much but I can only connect to the internet directly through an Ethernet connection. The wireless card (Dell truemobile 1150) will find and display available networks but I cannot connect. It simply re-prompts for the password request.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUbtuntu 10.04. I'm simply trying to run through this fix [URL]. But I'm not getting very far. Where do I unpack the files to? And once I've edited the wl_linux.c file, how do I compile it? I'm new to Ubuntu and I've been at this for days now, here's my previous issue before I ended up with this one [URL]. I thought Linux based software was supposed to be reasonably trouble free? I've been trying to get my laptop up and running for close to a week now, I had less trouble with Windows!

View 4 Replies View RelatedIts a Dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop. 1.8GHz Pentium M, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and some form of Intel graphics. The wireless card in question is a Dell TrueMobile 1300, with a BCM4306 Rev02 chip.Installed 10.04 LTS, updated it all on wired connection, then enabled the bcm43legacy drivers that were in the Hardware Drivers box, and it all worked fine. First thing I did was try to install some media codecs, and noticed they went slow on wifi, and swapped to the wired connection again. I thought it might just be slow servers, but I instantly got an extra 200kbps just by wiring. I try browsing the web, but its extremely slow and sometimes Firefox stops responding. I then begin to install WINE, and it complete stops loading, so I watch the net traffic when I hit a search in FF. Nothing goes out. I hit it a few times more, and finally it'll send something and receive something, but still VERY SLOWLY.
Its not a local problem, as other computers and laptops can connect fine with good speeds. Just wondering if this is normal, or if there's any other drivers to try, or if there's something I'm doing wrong here. I'm kind of a linux noob, but I'm for defs not a computer noob. But since I can't be guaranteed the drivers work with my specific card, who knows?
Dell N4010 and other brands with UBUNTU 10.04
Wireless need propriety drivers and will not function with out them being installed
And LAN port (wired RJ45 port) is not working too.
So what is the easy way to update these drivers.
Borrow someone else USB wireless adapter, that will work instantly with Ubuntu version you just installed.

Then you can update on line via USB wireless adapters. I use WG111v2 to connect to dell 4010 to update other wireless drivers.
I have a dell XPS m1530 which I think has an Intel wireless card (iw3945 i think). It's been giving me intermittent troubles since I bought it a few years ago, but never that bad.Recently it's been getting worse, and since ubuntu doesn't have the in-depth tools that windows vista did for resetting the wireless adaptor, it's been more trouble since switching.
I'm thinking of replacing the card altogether. I'd like to know if it's possible to remove and replace it for my laptop, and what kind of card would fit and work well with ubuntu. What would you guys recommend?PS- looking around the net it seems like this card has a lot of issues, is this just a badly made wireless card?
I have an Inspiron 1300 and have followed the "B43" instructions here:URl...Plus various other guides including the "one click b43 fix" but nothing useful happens. Wired access doesn't work either.

hciconfig -a shows nothing.
Bluetooth is enabled and working in windows 7 with up to date drivers.
Just installed 11.04. Before install, during live cd preview, it detected my dell wireless card and offered to install a Broadcom (as I remember) proprietary driver. However, after a proper install, it did not make the same offer and left no wireless available.
