View 3 RepliesI am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell D420 that I successfully upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. Everything looks fine except there is no LAN or wireless working. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (A06) and there are no proprietary drivers listed under System/Administration/Additional drivers.
when I plug the LAN cable into the 420, the indicator cycles for a long time but eventually displays the red exclamation mark.

i've installed openSUSE 11.2/KDE. Installation process finishes with fun. The first thing that i wanted in my laptop don't work. That's wireless internet. I did an inplace upgrade on my Dell Latitude X1 from Fedora 14 to 15 using dist-sync as per instructions on the website. It was not entirely smooth but I believe all the packages are now present and correct. Initially, about half the packages were still on f14 and the machine barely booted. I booted single user (nothing else was possible) and persuaded yum to fetch & install the rest.I was using wicd on 14 to connect wirelessly and it "just worked". I used wicd because I found NetworkManager didn't work.
On upgrade to 15, wicd now fails, and NetworkManager still does.icd i get an authentication failure, though the pw is correct. The only clue in the logs I can see is that wicd complains of not finding python-iwscan, and doesn't seem happy in using dhclient. Of course p-iwscan isn't in Fedora. Is p-iwlib similar? For wlassistant onnect failed.NetworkManager is currently refusing to acknowledge the existence of wireless on the machine, though occasionally it has addmitted the possibility. Then however I can neither scan for an SSID nor enter one manually ** Using iwconfig and setting the key manually *appears* to connect to the AP, but dhclient won't get IP data for it (if I ask nicely, it appears to try but isn't transmitting anything)The wireless card is an Intel ipw2200 chipset built into the X1. The ethernet port is working ok now, using a Broadcom chip.
That's my situation. Didn't work in 8.04, DID work in 9.04 (flawlessly, in fact), and now again does not work in 10.04.

After a couple of weeks, while I was trying to access a wireless network, the wireless module ceased to work.Now on knetworkmanager the option to enable wireless network is grey and cannot be selected. Following some indications I found in this forum for a similar issue, I uninstalled the broadcom drivers and re-install them again, with a cold start between the two phases as suggested, without success. After that, the option on knetworkmanager is still grey, and from yast the wireless module appears as "not configured". If I switch to ifup and configure it, the situation does not change.

I am having trouble getting my wireless internet working on Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. My wireless card works just fine in an earlier version (8.10) of Ubuntu. In fact, it worked right out of the box on Intrepid. However, in 9.10, I can not get it to work. I have installed Wicd Network Manager in it, and it shows no networks visible, even though if I reboot and go into my 8.10 version (I have a multiboot), opening Wicd will immediately show several wireless networks within range. So I'm thinking that the 9.10 version is missing a driver for my wireless card, which 8.10 has.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...
1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!
2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!
3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)
4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!
Just installed kubuntu(maverick) on my laptop. Strangely enough the wireless doesn't seem to be working. I had no issues with a gnome version of maverick. Now I'm probably doing something wrong, since I'm very new to KDE. But there's a little icon for something called "Networking Interface". There are two checkboxes inside the panel. One's called "Enable Networking"(checked) and "Enable Wireless" which is disabled.
Other than that I can't really elaborate further. I doubt it's a driver issue, since as I already mentioned I had no problems using a gnome ubuntu.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Up until about a week ago, my wireless worked fine, but now it rarely connects. Sometimes the connection indicator shows that I am connected, but when I click on it it doesn't show any active networks. Even when I use a wired connection it doesn't always work.

My wireless broadcom card was working just fine until now as i installed it with the Hardware Devices manager, Today i put a new ALFA AWUS036H usb card to work with aircrack. both cards were working together for a while, but as i started playing around with aircrack the broadcom card of the HP has stopped working.
I made a mistake and followed the aircrack tutorial for R8187 / ieee80211 stacks driver, while i'm using RTL 8187 / mac80211 stack drivers, and blacklisted the RTL8187 , rebooted and then both card didn't work. I un-blacklisted it, and the ALFA is working but the broadcom not!
iwconfig shows me only one wireless card on wlan0 the blue light showing activity in the HP card doesn't go on.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall broadcom drivers, still no change.
I use kmail in kubuntu 8.04. Whenever I have a wired connection, kmail checks email and sends messages just fine. However, any time I switch to wireless, kmail just says "No new messages," without even checking. I am also unable to send email over wireless.

I thought to myself, maybe Ubuntu needs to update. So I lugged my computer out to the router itself and okugged my computer in. I went into update manager and let it do its thing. It was PAINFULLY slow. I had a less than 100 b/s. But I let it do its thing. After all 200 Mb's were done, which took a couple hours, I rebooted my system. Now, I cant even connect to my wireless and the internet symbol (the wireless bars thing in the top right) is gone.
1) How can I get my wireless to work?
2) How do I get the wireless button back?
I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04. Everything worked fine, until I rebooted. Now I can not connect to my home wireless internet, so I can't re-enable third party software sources. I am currently using a different computer, so I know that our internet works. I checked the wireless switch on my laptop, and it says that wireless is enabled. I've rebooted, and it still doesn't work. I tried our wired internet, and that didn't work either (although I'm not sure if our wired internet works; we haven't used it in a few years)
