I'm only partially new to Linux. I'm running Fedora 11. I've just set up two machines, I thought to be identical. Evidently I missed something. I had some problems getting the network started on the second machine, and I must have forgotten a name change somewhere. Anyway, after doing lot's of comparisons between the boxes, editing and renaming and re-linking the ifcfg-GigaStorey file, they are both functioning. The problem is that whenever I start or restart the network on box 2, it reports the following error:
Bringing up interface GigaStorey: RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Error adding address 192.168.1.6 for eth0.
[ OK ]
The file ifcfg-GigaStorey is linked in the following directories
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices

Like I said, it's not super critical, just annoying. The networking comes up ok, but the error is puzzling. I figure if I learn what this problem is I'll be one step closer to my Linux beanee.

I live in Sweden and Denmark, and have a Swedish 3G internet provider called 3. They have a special roaming agreement with the Danish company named the same, so that I can surf for free both within the 3 net in Sweden and in Denmark. This has worked very smoothly until recently, when my modem connected to another company here in Denmark, and I was charged for the surfing per MB (a lot of money per MB, luckily I got a warning message in my browser and stopped).The company now says that they cannot block my modem from using all foreign networks except theirs, so they've blocked it from all surfing outside Sweden - which means I cannot surf in Denmark. If I was using Windows, their application however could block the unwanted networks...
But then I saw this field "Network" under "Advanced" in the Network Connections->Mobile Broadband box. What is that for? Can I tell it to connect only to e.g. networks called "3"? I've searched the net for any information about this textbox without success.I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the modem is a Huawei E122, which I've got to work with some usbmodeswitch fiddling.
Why is pppoeconf not creating dsl-provider file in /etc/ppp/peers/ directory.I just re-installed Lucid and now facing above prob. I cannot even copy an dummy file to the above path (even using sudo)It does not give any error,but then file is also not copied. My conclusion is that there has to be some kind of filtering of traffic that exclude PC's running Linux. From the same PC I can send and receive email, I can ping and trace (mtr) addresses on www, and I can view webpages that are on servers on the inside of the filtering-gateway. The filter used is InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance from TrendMicro

I have the Huawei E160 UMTS Stick with a German SIM from O2. Actually it is a prepaid tariff where I can buy a daily data flat rate. And I am running Ubuntu 10.04 UNR. I use SMS to order and confirm a daily data flat rate and I made this working with gammu. Not the most comfortable but a very reliable solution (see In order to charge the my account or to check my account balance I can either use the Original Huawei Software under Windows or I can put the SIM in my mobile and dial a number code. By entering the code '4444' my UMTS account gets recharged with 10 EUR (debited form my bank account). With the code '*101#' I can check the account balance.
What I want to do: I want to be able to recharge my account and check my account balance with Ubuntu, so without taking the SIM out and putting it into a mobile phone (and obviously without using the original Windows software).Using gammu in order to send the necessary codes did not work so far. When entering gammu --getussd *101# I get the following result:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with a complete LAMP installation (for local developement purpose).
Everything is OK (I installed phpMyAdmin without problems) except for one big problem: php shows 500 server internal error instead of a complete error report.
I tried editing php.ini and in-script runtime configuration but nothing changed.
I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

I have mounted a windows share folder on /mnt. When i gave any directory within /mnt/ to stat function it fails with errorno 75. perror shows "Value too large for defined data type". Example 1 is fail but Example 2 works fine.
in windows 7 i extended the partitioning to remove ubuntu but now when i try to log on i get an error and the grub rescue shows up
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).
iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.

I like rackspace, but they only have Arch Linux (closest thing to slack they have). Are there are opinions out there on this? Does slackware translate well to a fully-fledged LAMP server? I will have multiple projects hosted on said server for multiple clients.
There is an option to play ..... video in totem. But i am unable to play any video. Error shows, "Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.". I searched google, few suggestions are patches for ......py file, but there is no file named ......py in /usr/lib/totem/plugins/...../ folder.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave been running Karmic 910 for six months on a Dell Latitude D510 laptop with a Pentium M CPU, 2 GB of RAM and Intel 915 graphics, and I really like it, especially the Gnome desktop. However, a glitch occured after suspending, resuming, shutting down and trying to restart. Now after selecting Ubuntu in Grub the Ubuntu logo shows up onscreen, doesn't seem to pulsate, and eventually is replaced by an error message that the system gave up waiting for root device.
The LiveCD shows the Ubuntu partition as unrecognized, unknown or unused in Palimpsest Disk Utility, though Gparted shows it as normal ext4. The partition doesn't show up in Places. From the command prompt (via ctrl-alt-F1) I'm able to run fdisk, which shows the partitions but am unable to mount the Ubuntu sda4 partition - the error message is that the file type must be specified.
Starting recovery mode in Grub brings about 25 lines of startup messages, mostly dealing with usb devices, but a few render errors are there too. The last message before dropping to the ash shell is that a device could not be found. (ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/5cee... does not exist.) The ash commands are completely new to me, so I haven't had any luck with recovery mode.
If the problem is related to Intel graphics, I would like to try some "quirks" (software fixes for hardware problems, including Intel graphics bugs) mentioned on the ubuntu.wiki site. I'd also like to recover the data on the desktop, but so far cannot get into the file system.
Does GRUB need to be reinstalled? If so, why?
Would reinstalling without formatting anything preserve the data?
Would upgrading to Lucid help prevent the problem from occurring again?
