I'm running 11.4 with Gnome 3. I've installed the PiTiVi video editor from Software Manager, but when I tried to run the program, it wouldn't start. Trying to run from the terminal returned this error: "Gst-Python couldn't be found!" I tried looking for the dependency, but couldn't find it in Software Manager.
This was an ia32libs problem, now fixed in latest updates. I tried to remove and purge and reinstall through terminal. No success. PITIVI is installed but when I click on the launcher in the applications menu nothing happens.
Have recently tried to start ubuntu with kubuntu-desktop, but as I reboot my computer kubuntu only shows the terminal after the login and I cant get my desktop back.
I installed gnome 3.0 through the one installer, and now every time I start kde I get a gnome terminal that says Code:
** (orca:4321): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowState' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags' ** (orca:4321): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowActions' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags' ** (orca:4321): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowMoveResizeMask' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
It keeps shrinking everytime I try to expand it a bit, I had to edit > select all and copy to be able to read it. And it sounds like it's trying to play a sound that sounds like welcome, but it gets cut off, it also makes a sound when closing it. I'm assuming this was supposed to be a first time run thing for gnome but it keeps showing up in kde.
if you do the command conky in terminal, it starts conky ofcourse, but it also shows output to that terminal so you can't do any other commands to that terminal, Is their an option like you can do with the '&' sign in other cases? If you do the '&' sign with conky it still gives output, also the conky -d command gives output...
I'm encountering a strange problem. I need to open and forward all UDP and TCP ports related to VoIPtelephony (5000:32000) in the Suse 11.1 server that's acting as router/firewall in our setup. The ports must redirect to a Asterisk server in the local network. (This server has the IP adress 192.168.0.3)I've opened ports in Yast (Firewall>Ports>Advanced) and putted in some masquerading rulesirewall>Masquerading):0/0,192.168.0.3,tcp,5000:31000,5000:310000/0,192.168.0.3,udp,5000:31000,5000:31000when I do a nmap localhost I get:Starting Nmap 4.75 at 2010-01-08 16:52 CETInteresting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):

Recently I've updated from 13 to 14. However, after updated I've tried to work with my terminal and it seems doesn't works fine. I can read 'starting terminal' but after that it's closed.I've uninstalled and re-installed it through the graphical tools (gnome-terminal) but that doesn't works fine.
I had always worked fine with my Red hat 4.0 untill yesterday night when i logged in i had an error saying: "HOSTNAME could not be found, you can resolve this by editing the /etc/hosts"eventually it logged me in but when i launch the terminal ...i now see 'username@(none)dir' .In other words my HOSTNAME shows as 'none'.I looked into /etc/hosts file but everything looks the same, which for is:127.0.0.1 mluboya,
I set up opensuse 11.4. I updated nvidia 6600 drivers from vendor. Everything is good until automatic kernel update. When I start the system, opensuse is not open with this lines.
/etc/rc.status: line 1: /bin/ash : no such file or directory bash: ./etc/sysconfig/chron : cannot execute binary file X_MOUSE_CURSOR : Undefined variable
I want to monitor my work on the terminal.I know we can use script command. But every time when I start the terminal, I have to type script to start it.I want to automate it. So where should I include this command so that it will start as soon as I start the terminal ?
MY WORK TILL NOW: I have put this "script" command in the .profile.The when I start the terminal, it became an INFINITE LOOP.I am able to "echo".Thats coming only once.....but if I write a "script" command then it is becoming an INFINITE LOOP.
My terminal shows unicode squares (the little square with it's 2 byte unicode value inside it), whenever I press a control character while running a program (ex. cat or ping).See this example. Here I show the key's I pressed then turn off echoctl, and repeat the sequence. http://imagebin.ca/img/mXbutJ1.png
the 0003 is when I pressed Ctrl+C, and the 001A is when I pressed ctrl+z.Can anybody tell me why this is or how to turn it off. This is inside a gnome-terminal session, though I don't think it's gnome-terminal.If, inside this exact same bash session I open screen (by typing "screen"), it doesn't do this anymore, and ctrl+c/z/etc is completely quiet.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with a complete LAMP installation (for local developement purpose).
Everything is OK (I installed phpMyAdmin without problems) except for one big problem: php shows 500 server internal error instead of a complete error report.
I tried editing php.ini and in-script runtime configuration but nothing changed.
I'm only partially new to Linux. I'm running Fedora 11. I've just set up two machines, I thought to be identical. Evidently I missed something. I had some problems getting the network started on the second machine, and I must have forgotten a name change somewhere. Anyway, after doing lot's of comparisons between the boxes, editing and renaming and re-linking the ifcfg-GigaStorey file, they are both functioning. The problem is that whenever I start or restart the network on box 2, it reports the following error:
Bringing up interface GigaStorey: RTNETLINK answers: File exists Error adding address 192.168.1.6 for eth0. [ OK ] The file ifcfg-GigaStorey is linked in the following directories /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices code....
Like I said, it's not super critical, just annoying. The networking comes up ok, but the error is puzzling. I figure if I learn what this problem is I'll be one step closer to my Linux beanee.
I have a memory leak, thus, I need to run memcheck-memtest86. I run ubuntu 10.04 lucid and my GRUB is 2 (GNU GRUB 1.98-1ubuntu7). I have been told that to run it I have to, when booting the system, select it from the GRUB menu and use the OS as I usually do so memtest can show the leaks that annoy me.
Problems so far: in system-administration-startup-manager I can only see 2 tabs (boot options and advanced), while in the following webpage [URL] there are another 2 that I cannot see in my machine (security and advanced). Why does that happen? The idea is that I can configurate the boot menu with the startup manager, right? with the screenshot that I have uploaded, I have much less options. Again, why is that?
i switched completely to ubuntu, and it was working fine. now when i try to start up my laptop, it just shows a blinking _ and i have no idea what to do.
I'm having a hard time installing Ubuntu 10.10 (32bits). I load the CD and everything's ok throughout the installing procedure, but when the installation is over and it says it's gonna reboot it doesn't do it!
The screen resembles a terminal with a message like "the computer is going to reboot NOW!" but it could stay like that for hours. The keyboard is locked so I can't reboot by commands, and if I press CTRL+ALT+DEL it just reprints the same message. Therefore I'm forced to turn off my computer manually.
After that, the Ubuntu desktop doesn't load. The screen shows a terminal asking for my username and password to access the computer. No graphics at all.

Trying to start mysql in YaST > system services (runlevel) > Expert mode gives following message /etc/init.d/mysql start returned 1 (unspecified error):
I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...
I'm trying to use Ifolder but after the splash screen, I got this error message:
Code: Error: Cannot start the local web services. Error: The Simias process failed to initialize. Use the command line switch --showconsole to view the error.
Plasma won't start, get segementation error. How do I fix this? Login and you have the standard desktop, with all program settings kept, just plasma to dress up again. But still getting no plasma desktop. Alt-F2 works btw.
