I have RHEL 5.5 ,Suse linex and windows7 is also running in my system. I am not able to connect to internet from Linux, but internet is working in windows 7 and suse. The service provider is qwest and they say that they do not support linux.
i recently changed my broadband provider and since then i havent been able to connect to the internet. I have configured all the settings on my laptop,(ive got puppy linux 4 on it). All the settings say i have a valid connection to the wireless connection and that its recognised the new provider but when i try to access the internet i get the page that says UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER and it also says that i need to check my network connections etc etc. Ive done all that and it appears that i have everything in the right place. SO WHY wont it connect.
i am using windows 7 in my laptop and linux is installed on virtualBox but my problem is the screen is showing small in virtualbox is there any way to enalarge the screen to show like windows screen? i did before by using VGA setting but it made problem me i was not able to use GUI interface i meant graphics interface it was just showing me Command Prompt.
This has been bugging me since I upgraded to 11.4. First I noticed that most of the time when a file is copied from an application (say, downloaded from Firefox) in to a directory that Konqueror does not show the new file until I hit "Reload".OK, I could live with that, annoying as it is. Why it can't recognize that a new file has been added to the directory since the last display refresh when I switch to that window I don't know, but fine, whatever.
Then I installed Firefox 4.0 - and now frequently when I open the "Save As" file browse dialog, it doesn't see any of the files recently added either. I put in a complaint to Mozilla, but apparently only ONE other person on the planet has ever seen this happen. But it was never the case before, either in earlier Firefox or earlier openSUSE releases. I was always able to see the files I previously saved to that folder when saving a new one.
And today it happened in Kaffeine which I don't remember ever seeing before. I opened the "Open File" dialog and it couldn't see a video file I had just downloaded. When I closed Kaffeine and then restarted it, it could see it.Is this something that has been ongoing or is it new? I can't find anything via Google Search to explain it. Is there some setting somewhere that needs to be tweaked? Is it a file system problem?
I just installed a fresh install of Debian Wheezy to an old Pentium 4 desktop computer I found on Craigslist. Everything is mostly up and running but I've been encountering an odd issue with Firefox. Whenever I type text into either a search or text dialog on Youtube, Facebook or on Duck Duck Go the text is invisible. I can highlight the text to see what I have written, but obviously this is quite annoying not to be able to view what I am typing in these places in real-time. The strange thing is that it is only these sites that I have found, everywhere else (reddit, google, Debian forums as well) can see what I am typing. I'm using Firefox 35.0 right now.
Nautilis is very good at hiding or showing 'hidden' files and folders (names starting with .) but using any other program to save or open a file, I have to scroll through reams of hidden to my storage folders. Is there a way to make the save and open dialogs 'hide' the 'hidden' files? Is it different for different programs?
I'm running Debian squeeze and my packages are all up to date. I usually do my updates by typing 'aptitude update' and 'aptitude safe-upgrade' at the command line as root.Sometimes when doing regular updates aptitude, or the package that's being updated, shows a ncurses-style dialog box on the screen, usually to have the user 'OK' a change, or to select which version of a configuration file to keep. Recently I've found these dialog boxes to be slightly messed up... in that the spot at the bottom where I would expect the 'OK' button to be is replaced by nonsensical characters.
There seems to be no problem with the way that the program functions, as I can press the tab key and then the return key, or just the return key alone, and the dialog goes away, seemingly doing it's job. But I would like to know what this program is. It's likely been updated recently, but looking through /var/log/aptitude and /var/log/aptitude.1.gz I cannot figure out which one it is. I'd like to file a bug report, or simply be able to follow the progress of someone else's bug. That's all.
I'm looking for a virtual server somewhere, and wanting some opinions. I use slackware exclusively in home/office in a small network install, and I just love it.
I like rackspace, but they only have Arch Linux (closest thing to slack they have). Are there are opinions out there on this? Does slackware translate well to a fully-fledged LAMP server? I will have multiple projects hosted on said server for multiple clients.
I've a server with two NIC. Sometimes the server becomes unreacheable. When this happens, I did a reboot and then it works.. but when looking at the interface status (with ifconfig command), I've notice several "errors".So, I've tried to change NIC.. but the problem occurs again.I've also changed the port on the switch.
I've recently made the move from Lenny to Squeeze. I'm really excited about using ekiga/qutecom as viable alternatives for skype. So far, ekiga has been working moderately well for me. I would like to try qutecom, however I wanted to ask, what (preferably free) SIP providers do you use?
i am trying to connect my AWUS036H to my Compaq CQ60 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10. when i check ifconfig, one minute my wlan1 is there, next minute its not, if i try to do a sudo ifconfig wlan1 up i get, wlan1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device and when i try it again it accepts the command no probs, i suspect this is because the device is in and out every few seconds. when i checked rfkill, i found a hard block which i resolved with unblock all, i have checked the unit under windows and it works just fine so i suspect it is a problem with my ubuntu
how shall i know the provider package of a this file usb.ids? also for other files eg./etc/fstab or /etc/ sysconfig/network , i.e. by file name is it possible to find its providing soft ?
I live in Sweden and Denmark, and have a Swedish 3G internet provider called 3. They have a special roaming agreement with the Danish company named the same, so that I can surf for free both within the 3 net in Sweden and in Denmark. This has worked very smoothly until recently, when my modem connected to another company here in Denmark, and I was charged for the surfing per MB (a lot of money per MB, luckily I got a warning message in my browser and stopped). The company now says that they cannot block my modem from using all foreign networks except theirs, so they've blocked it from all surfing outside Sweden - which means I cannot surf in Denmark. If I was using Windows, their application however could block the unwanted networks...
But then I saw this field "Network" under "Advanced" in the Network Connections->Mobile Broadband box. What is that for? Can I tell it to connect only to e.g. networks called "3"? I've searched the net for any information about this textbox without success.I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and the modem is a Huawei E122, which I've got to work with some usbmodeswitch fiddling.
After updating and subsequently restarting today, I can no longer bring up my wireless interface:
ifup wlan0 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 Could not set interface 'wlan0' UP SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 Failed to bring up wlan0
iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.

I am having an odd problem with a program I'm trying to run which is supposed to connect to a network. The messages printed when I start up the program are:
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device 192.168.11.50: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device SIOCADDRT: File exists
One reason this is particularly odd is that the network itself appears to be working fine, otherwise. I can connect to the internet on my computer and everything, but the program is not able to connect to it, for whatever reason. I've tried tinkering with the settings but nothing worked.
I wanted to stop hi jacking the work around thread. I'm running Kubuntu 64 bit I started by following this walk through[URL].. everything is fine until i get to Step 5 this line :
sudo ifconfig wlan0 down (on some hardware it is ra0)I receive this output: wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device I started browsing other threads to see what else could be happening. I ran this line : sudo lshw -C network
with an output of: *-network:0 UNCLAIMED description: Network controller product: RaLink vendor: RaLink physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:06:00.0 version: 00 width: 32 bits
Currently, his mail is coming in on 2 addresses. He'd like to take the mails from one source and add it to the other.
The idea is to fetch the mails from the least used address - on the provider's POP server - and forward it to the other address. He can use the SMTP server from the same provider to send off the forwarded mails.
This operation would be cron'ed to run every few minutes.
I am running a linux VPS with ubuntu 8.04. My VPS provider doesn't have domain services so i have to host my own domain. I am using bind9 and cant "catch or grab or whatever you want to call it", my domain name. I used go daddy to create my domain and I created my own name servers with the ip's I use on my VPS. I have been trying to go at this all week, all i need to do is get my domain running and then my site will be good to go cause I already have everything else running smoothe it seems. any help at all is very appreciated. I dont know what kind of info you need from me so ask whatever you need to. I am going to use a fake domain and ip in on here just to protect myself. Also I have tried many tutorials and have been searching around the net and forums with no luck.
I have currently installed Slackware 13.1 64bit version on a laptop Acer computer. This computer is connected to my cable service (comcast) modem via a dlink router. This computer has linux and Windows 7 dual boot systems installed. Initially I was able to connect to the internet with either linux or Windows. Now I cannot get on the internet with linux, but I can with windows.
I cannot even ping the address of my internet provider, which I can obtain through windows 7 by running the program ipconfig. When I ping the address, in linux,it gives me the message that "network is unreachable".I can ping it in windows 7.If I run on linux the program ifconfig, it does not even show an ethernet, like it does on my other computer connected to this network.I set the thing up initially with netconfig and used DHCP.As I said, initially it worked.I did not use this computer for some time, and now it has the previously described problems.Where should I start, trying to run this down?I have already done everything I can think of,like powered things off, and reset the cable modem etc.
