I have tried to mount an HP laser printer on my home network through a VPN IPSES connection from my laptop, but I cannot manage to see the printer or make it accept commands.

Unable to open device hp:/net/Photosmart_C5100_series?ip=192.168.0.161.
when trying to access it.The ubuntu desktop is wired to the router as is the printer and another iMac wirelessly can still print to the HP. HPLIP status shows the icon for the printer but with a red x indicating no connection to it.The only recent network change was the removal of another router from our network. (service is DSL via a combo modem/router from service provider which previously was connected to a Dlink router which has now been removed from the chain b/c was redundant to the modem/router)
I am new to Ubuntu, and I have just installed version 9.10 on my desktop PC. I need to connect my computer to my home network. Right now, I have no connection and cannot detect any of the hardware when running Ubuntu. When I switch over to my Windows XP partition, everything works fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince I installed fedora on my desktop (there is no other OS on my desktop computer at the moment) I can't connect to my laptop which has Windows XP installed on it, although I can normally connect to internet from both computers. Here is the drawing to illustrate how everything is connected:
On the picture you can see that the phone line goes to the ADSL modem. The ADSL modem is connected to the Wireless modem with LAN cable. Wireless modem is connected to my desktop computer with LAN cable, and trough the wireless connection to the laptop. Internet is working fine for both computers, but desktop can't see laptop and vice versa. What do I need to do in order to see the laptop?

Lately I noticed that my Ubuntu gets ipv6 autoconfiguration from ISP router, receiving global ipv6 address and automatically adding ipv6 route. I can access Internet resources using ipv6 connection:

How can I share ipv6 connection to my home network? Using ipv4 it's easy, I just can use NAT for this. But if I understand correctly, in ipv6 there isn't such thing as NAT, because there is no limit in ip addresses.
I got a laptop with wireless. Next to it I got 2 desktops, neither of which have a wireless card and I don't have any usb wireless adapters or anything. I do however have an ethernet cord. In the past I was able to set my eth0 connection to be "shared to other computers", then from my laptop I could run the patch cable to the desktop and voila, internet to the desktops.
For some reason though, now whenever I try to connect from the desktops, there are 2 green circles and a little blue circley thing going around them. it spins for a while and then says disconnected. Also, now if (on my laptop) I connect to the wired network, my wireless stops working. I'm kind of stumped here, I tried deleting both connections from both computers, setting everything up again, and connecting, and I get the same problem. Also seeing as how I'm trying to troubleshoot this from my laptop and watch this thread, I can't exactly mess around with it much right now or I won't see any replies.

I know that a general 'rule of thumb' is go with HP, but that doesn't seem to be the case with their low-end mono printers, as they use the XQX Stream Protocol instead of Postscript. The more expensive HP printers appear to work because they use Postscript.

I was considering Samsung SCX-4828FN or HP LaserJet M1522NF. Both have network cards and support for Linux, but I am a little leery of the Samsung's support in Lucid. Does anyone have this printer? It seems to me a better choice if it works, because the toner is quite a bit more economical and I print quite a a lot.
My only requirements are all-in-one scanner/printer, economical, network card, proven to work.
Using ubuntu 10.04 a dell 1320 colour laser printer. I have been using a xerox driver for this but it will only printer from the single sheet feeder and no the paper tray. It works fine with XP and windows driver. I know that there is not a dedicated driver for linux but is there one which will work correctly and how do I install it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLaserJet Pro CP1525NW. HP website mentions that it is compatible with Linux. However, this particular model cannot be found at Linux Foundation's OpenPrinting Database. As you can see here, there is no mention of HP LaserJet Pro CP1525N which makes me worried. Also, the printer is not listed in HP Linux imaging and printing.
What are your thoughts and do you have experience with this printer? What other Color Laser printer do you recommend? The fact that the that printer's specification on HP website says that it is compatible with Linux, yet it is not listed on HPLIP nor in Openprinting makes me nervious.
Just purchased new del 1320cn printer and unfortunatly ubuntu doesn't see it. I tried the Foomatic system as well, which does see the printer and identifies it but does not show the model number in the list.
Any help would be really good. My other Del 1110 mono laser worked first time!
If any terminal commands reqd, please could you be kind enough to list them as I get confused using terminal.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 11 and am trying to install Brother HL-2170W Wireless laser printer. I installed it and used CPUS but cannot print. SELinux is enabled. On Brothers site there is an FAQ about SELinux and CUPS. [URL] I followed these instructions but still cannot print. Jobs get queued. Under Printer properties -> Policies, there is an Enabled checked. For some reason when I check this Enabled box and click Apply, the changes do not take effect. Then Enabled checkbox gets uncheck again.
I cannot even print a test page as its status shows Pending.
Has anyone installed successfully a Canon LBP3000 laser printer?I would like to make it work under F14 and F15.

Having consulted SDB:Installing a Printer - openSUSE I ran lpinfo -l -m | grep HL-3040CN as su... evidently this model is not supported.The Brother site Brother Solutions Center : Brother Driver for Linux Distributions seems to suggest maybe there is hope. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been printing with this laser printer (connected via LAN) for months without a single glitch, when suddenly today I had to quickly print a document. I could not print it. At first I thought the printer was off, then I double checked it was on. I restarted the CUPS server, reinstalled the printer in CUPS, nothing will work. When I send a print job, (I am using XFCE btw), I see the printer icon in the tasktray and it has a small warning sign.
Opening the print queue, I see "Processing - Printer Warning". In cups, I see nothing unusual. It says (in the printer queue): processing since Sat 25 Jun 2011 10:13:30 AM EDT. I can print a test page FROM the Printer web interface, confirming the printer works. I can print with the other printers. CUPS detects the printer and does not report anything unusual. What is going on with CUPS?
Hp P3005 Laser printer gives 49FF04 error message and 50.2 fuser unit problems. I open my printer, It doesn't receive tray paper. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?

How do I compile and install it on my computer ? ( Or get the printer working ? )
i have custom programs written in Basis pro5. Standard output to a pdf virtual printer works fine. Using pdftk to overlay on to a form is hit or miss.... There are products out there like Unform that are just too expensive for my company. i have purchased another product from a company that prints the forms to the laser perfectly but i am incapable of capturing them and saving them as pdf's for archiving/emailing/faxing and i don't much care for this company.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed linux 'uberstudent'and find it doesnt recognise my floppy drive but more importantly I cant install my printer a samsung ML4500 laser. There are readme files (reproduced below) but I just dont know enough about the system to know what to do with them " does it mean anything to anyone ? I am a bit reluctant to experiment with terminal incase I mess up the entire system ! also could their be a connection between this and the floppy not working ?
1.AUTORUN will not run
2.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with archive manager' results in : 'an error occured while loading the archive'
3.clicking cdsetup.exe and selecting 'open with wine windows programe loader' results in 'samsung printer setup window'etc, and it appears to load normally until 'PROGRAM ERROR 'DAC1.EXE encountered problems and has to be closed.

I'm going to setup a File and Printer Sharing in my little home network... 3 Computers actively connected to the Web through a single ADSL2+ Wireless Router (number of Computers will increase later) At the moment 2 of the computers are running Fedora 10 and 1 running Windows XP...
Now i want to setup the 3 machines to use 1 printer which is connected to one of the Fedora 10 machines, and i want File Sharing to be enabled so each machine can easily view each others shared files and also be able to print when ever needed (ofcourse the machine with the printer will have to be on for the printing process to happen) I've installed Samaba on each Fedora Machine, enabled sharing but i dont seem to be able to view the Windows machine or each other....
These problems just started the last couple of days but I have been using Lucid 10.04 for a month now. My wireless Signal varies in strength wildly. I sitting at home, not 20 feet from my router. I never had these problems before Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. I am running both Network Manager and Wicd.
Errors:
1. Wicd states "Wrong Password" which is not true.
2. Dropping off-line for no reason, sometimes 3 or 4 times a minute and sometimes it works fine for hours.

I have the Proper Wireless Drivers. I have not changed my wireless settings, channel or WPA for 8 months now so I know thats not it.
I want to sync several directories between my laptop and desktop both at home and away from home. It seems like the tool to use for this is unison (I use rysnc for backups, but union seemed, better for this sort of thing - let me know if I'm wrong).
I found several posts that appear promising, however I was little confused about the details as I don't have much networking experience up to this point.

1) Is a reverse ssh connection the way to go? If I only wanted to do this on my home network I could just use ssh right, however in order to get around the router outside my home network the reverse ssh is necessary?
