i have a acer aspire one (zg5) with a 2 week old installation of unr. shortly but not immediately following my last update my wifi no longer functions. when i go to the network connections tab in my toolbar it does not list available wifi networks. does not apparently recognize wifi capability at all. but the wifi worked right off the rip on new install.
View 3 RepliesAs the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

I have an Advent QRC430 laptop which worked perfectly until I upgraded to Natty. Now wifi is broken. The wifi driver is rt73usb.
When I run lspci in terminal, no wifi card is listed. Running rfkill shows wifi hard blocked, but the switch on laptop makes no difference.
I've installed and run Hardware Lister - this shows wireless interface "has been disabled"
After being prompted by UpdateManager, I upgraded my Compaq Presario CQ71 from 10.10 to 11.04 yesterday. Most things seem fine, except that my wifi is disabled (it was working fine in 10.10).

I turned down my txpower with the command: sudo iwconfig wlan0 txpower 3 Which works to fine turn down my broadcast power from the default value of 15 dBm to 3 dBm. But it is reset every time I restart Ubuntu 11.04 to the default value of 15 dBm. How do I save my modified txpower settings so they don't reset after a restart? It is really annoying having to re-enter the command every time I reboot my computer!
View 2 Replies View RelatedCreating a new thread for the specific chipset. Laptop is an Acer 5534 with the Atheros chipset. Normally uses the Ath9k driver. To get it to work originally I had to download, compile and install the latest compat_wireless drivers. See post here: {URL] I did the update that came through today and after the reboot there was no wireless internet. It alternates between reboots between having no wireless networks at all detected to never connection to the [AUTO] network previously defined. To fix the problem, I downloaded the latest compat_wireless, compat-wireless-2009-12-11.tar.bz2, and followed the same procedure. I did not do a make clean. To solve the problem temporarily, I edited the grub config and set default to 2 instead of 0 (1 would be 0 in recovery mode).

I need to take to bring back wireless connectivity to my netbook and restore the wifi icon to the task bar.
I updated this morning to the latest bugfixes for F13. For some reason, networking has become un-available after the required re-start. I am using a fixed IP. Tried to add eth0 DHCP, which initially worked, but became unavailable after a few minutes as well. I suspect there may be an issue with the card's MAC address which may or may not be detected correctly.. Has Networking been updated somehow in this bugfix release?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo IdeaPad s10 which worked flawlessly with wired, I could never get it to so much as search for a wireless network, so I gave up on it long ago.
I'm using UNR 9.10 on it and today, after updating Wicd Network Manager stopped working making it impossible for me to go online with the netbook even when using a wired connection.
I restarted the computer after the update and once UNR booted up wicd wanted root access to use my computer's network cards, I entered my password, this never happened before but whatever, unfortunately after I entered my password wicd didn't show up in the tray and sure enough there was no internet connection whatsoever.
I tried running wicd manually, UNR says opening, but nothing comes up, no tray icon no nothing.
On my ageing laptop with Intel IPW3945 wireless adapter which has always worked extremely well.... Fedora 13 with the latest NetworkManager. Seems that wireless speed has slowed to a crawl.

Running Ubuntu 9.10 (i386) with latest patches from update manager. If I try using the 4.2 archive I get the same result.
I have similar problems with aircrack-ng suite, but I'll leave that until later!

I have a wired connection operating without any problems at all.
After I updated ubuntu 10.04.3 and restarted my PC, something weired happend and my wired connection was completely lost. I tried different things but it seems that I have lost my ethernet connection. I only have ethernet card and the interface was set to eth0 which is not recognized anymore.
The /etc/network/interfaces includes the following commands, which btw I tried to play with a bit by commenting and uncommenting the lines but was not helpful (but this is the original one):

After running a large update and rebooting a few weeks ago, I found that my internet connection had stopped working. My internal network still worked fine though, so it I know it's not the card itself or its configuration. After a bit of trial and error I discovered that simply running dhclient brings the connection up again, so it appears that something is interfering with the initial dhcp update to my ISP (or something like that; I'm no expert in this area. ) My usual policy in cases like this is to wait through two or three updates in the hopes that it's just a temporary problem, but it's been a while now and subsequent updates haven't fixed it.
I've tried looking around, but I can't come up with search criteria specific enough to narrow it down to my specific situation. I'm not even sure where to begin looking to diagnose the problem, nor do I know which package update(s) could've affected it. I'm not sure what might be useful, but here's the relevant entry in /etc/network/interfaces. I have it configured with a static internal address, with my router as the gateway.

relative n00b to linux, but figured out the whole Osx86 hype and thought id give linux a try. its funnu i just dropped ubuntu 9.04 for mythbuntu 10.04 and everything was fine before the upgrade, now my wifi doesnt work but it now has support for multiple monitors which is nice. i just want my internet back so i can stop useing my windows machine. i believe my card is a broadcom 802.11 g and the computer is an HP pavillion DV6505 us with AMD dual core TK-55, 4 gigs of ram. geforce 7150m/Nforce630m ANY OTHER INFO YOU NEED I GOTS

I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?
I got my wifi working about a month ago, I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 with a broadcom bcm4318, it worked fine until I updated my system and rebooted, now I can only use my ethernet

It was over 300 MB. I installed it, did a reboot and my internet connection was lost. I tried a few things I found on this forum yesterday. Nothing worked. I can go on-line on the same computer using windows 7. But I always have to reboot to try the different solutions. All right that's fixed! But now I just have to fix Firefox...

Last night I installed F12 x86_64 from a liveUSB in my laptop with Atheros wireless. During the install process and after the first boot I was able to surf the web connected to the wireless network (signal was good and all). After I updated the whole system, however, the wireless network is no longer available (Network Manager does not even show the Wireless interface or the network list).
Obviously a laptop without wireless is mostly worthless. What am I supposed to do to get my (perfectly working*) wireless network back?

I've been in doubt weather to install Linux open SUSE or Mint on my Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. Having tried the latest SUSE live CD (not finding a way to use WiFi) I decided to install Mint (Katya release). Now it turns out there's a bug on Ubuntu/debian related linux distros in connection with Dell Laptops, specifically on WiFi cards by Broadcom. (If you want to know more, check this Ubuntu forum thread and my comment on it.) My question is: are there any known bugs on Dell with OpenSUSE? An additional question would be: is it at all possible to use WiFi with the latest SUSE live CD?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost wifi access with the upgrade to 11.4.Previously, the receiver icon showed on left click a menu of available networks, and on right click, available network by network settings for editing. The menu also included enable wireless connection and enable wired connection. I have wireless enabled.
But with the upgrade, the same menu appears on left click or right click, and they both show a greyed out "wireless disconnected" tab, so you can't connect from there, the tab is disabled. There's also no place else to go to find available networks or to lock into one. There also does not seem to be a place to find wired networks either.I installed my wifi network in it, and put in the correct password and set it to come on automatically, and 3x restarts did not yield any changes. Apparently network finding is disabled in this version or at least my copy.It isn't the computer: I'm on line with it now on the Windows XP side.
This is doubly problematic because if I can't get on line, I can't download a fix, and even if I could by downloading it to the Windows side, it is probably a binary with some very scripts and meticulous BASH coding or tarballing something else that I have no idea how to do even with a walk through by an expert because most of the time the experts assume I know as much about using a Linux terminal and code as they do, and I basically know absolutely nothing, it is all Greek to me from the point at which they say "open a terminal." "Go to root" might as well be said in Chinese as far as its usefulness to me. What is the plan here? A complete redo from the get go?
We have 2 computers connecting the wireless network. I reinstalled the linux machine and lose the saved wifi password. I don't have the router access password. I am looking at other computer running Mac and see wifi password as xxxxxxxx. Is there a way to see what wifi password is (from the Mac computer)? The "show password" button is disabled.
