After performing the periodic update on 2010-05-26 including libc, libc6 and libgtk2.0 my system fails on boot with the following error message:
Code:
run-init: /sbin/init: no such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! If I boot from the 10.04 live CD, all partitions on the hard drive are visible, mountable, and pass all file system checks.

Yesterday i was prompted by my update manager to update some packages. I really don't remember which but i updated.
After reboot the box now kernel panics. I don't believe i get a ubuntu splash screen, and at this point i can't figure out how to get to my grub, in case a kernel was upgraded and it's possible to boot to different kernel.
i noticed some words like 'mantis', 'oops' and 'dvb_core' was a part of the text i get on the screen.
Can this be because of a dvb* upgrade that breaks something important ?
If needed, i should be able to boot via liveCD, or i could take a picture of the errors.

I'm using Debian 8 with GNOME 32bit. I installed a driver with ndiswrapper for my old D-Link DWL-G650M.
If i using the default network manager to connect with a Free wifi the connection works fine. But if the wifi have the password the connection doesn't work.
I. using my phone Android to create the Router-Wifi like this:
SSID: AndroidAP5
Password: BillyBob
Encryption(the one allowed): WPA2 PSK
With network manager gnome is impossible to connect. I changed in setting the password type with WPA2 but the system doesn't connect.
I tried to connect manually and i updated the file /etc/network/interfaces as the follow:
Code: Select allauto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-driver wext
wpa-ssid AndroidAP5
wpa-ap-scan 1
wpa-proto RSN
wpa-pairwise CCMP
wpa-group CCMP
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-psk 18[...]
After this I tried to execute the follow command :
Code: Select all/etc/init.d/networking restart
And the system returns:
Code: Select all[ ok ] Restarting networking (via systemctl): networking.service
but nothing else happens. The internet connection doesn't work. The Android phone not detect PC connection IN.

I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?

I'm running 13.1 x86_64 on my laptop. Yesterday the first batch of security updates were released, which I installed without problems; however, I'm bugged by the fact that that the Firefox packages for 13.0 and 13.1 have the same name. (see below)
Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.0:[URL].._slack13.0.txz Updated package for Slackware x86_64 13.1:[URL]..._slack13.0.txz They aren't the same file--their listed md5 hashes on ftp.slackware.com differ, plus I downloaded both packages and confirmed that both check against their respective listed hashes.
So...I suppose my question is this: Is this simply a mistake in naming, and if so, could it possibly produce a problem somehow?

Having several distros on my computer (including Windows), I prefer BING (BootIt NG) as an overall boot manager. This way, I just install a distro together with GRUB to its dedicated partition, and keep full control over what partitions are available/visible and bootable when family members use the computer.Yesterday, I tried to update Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04) and got a problem with the newly available GRUB (1.98-ubuntu7): it said that installing GRUB to a partition was a "BAD" idea, and, luckily, refused to update. I've noticed this behaviour during my last install of Sidux (great distro to keep track of what's happening at the KDE front, by the way). Same problem, same message. Result: no more new Sidux releases...
What's going on? Is this intended behaviour and thus making it impossible for people to manage their booting their own way? Are we talking about a bug here? There seems to be a mentioning of this behaviour on Launchpad, but it's unclear whether it's a bug or not; at least to me.

Bit of an odd one this. My ZTE MF100 (on O2) had been working happily on my 10.04 laptop, but today is not recognised - e.g. no device listed by lsusb, nor error messages in dmesg at boot.
Re-plugging the device after boot gives me dmesg errors:
[ 1691.680162] usb 5-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
[ 1691.810163] usb 5-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[ 1691.990379] hub 5-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2
[Code]....
I can't see any suspicious entries in /var/log/dpkg, but I'm attaching a copy of the recent anyway, along with output for lsusb -vv.

I have been using PCLOS for a few years now, 2007 and 2009. My PC connects via eth0 to an ADSL modem/router either with static IP or DHCP and Internet works fine.
I formatted a partition and installed PCLOS 2010.7 KDE to it. I booted the new system, expecting to (almost) never see the old one again. But I was surprised to discover that I cannot access anything on the Internet.
In the taskbar I see the network icon which correctly shows my IP and the default gateway (my router) and DNS address. When I open Firefox and fill in a location I get "waiting for [URL]" (or whatever site) forever! I couldn't even get a response from the router itself, on my own local IP segment!
As soon as I rebooted my PCLOS2009 I was online again as usual, so the hardware and network defs sure seem OK.
On the basis of a suggestion I checked my FireFox settings, and found that I had network.dns.disableIPv6 setting as 'false' in Firefox, and I changed it to 'true'. I also changed the proxy setting from 'system proxy settings' to 'no proxy'. These changes did not help, I still cannot connect.
in no particular order:
1) from a shell I can ping any site, by IP *or* by dns name.
2) my browser gets NO response from my router at 10.0.30.100 but if i type the url ftp://10.0.30.100 I *DO* get a prompt for my password from the router. (After I give the password it tells me that ftp is not available, which is true).
3) I have found *ONE* web site that worked in my browser: [URL]
4) Another app that also failed to connect to the Internet: Synaptic does not download repository listings. So I have not tried any other browser, since I cannot install anything.
5) I checked my firewall settings (in the control center) and it says that I have NO firewall limitations.

I don't find a lot of information available regarding a service called pipe_server.When I send UDP packets without specifically a source or destination port, the packet capture from the machine, I send the UDP packet shows the following:
src port: pipe_server(2010)
dest port: pipe_server(2010)
More information related how send packets : I use raw sockets. I don't specify ports.Does the kernel fill the src and dest ports for me? Do all machines have a port 2010 that will listen for UDP packets?

My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter. The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device? This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

I have only had a few weeks worth of experience with linux, so I'm probably considered a newbie at this but I felt like giving it a shot. I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work.
