Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working In 10.04 - Disconnecting Again And Again
Jun 1, 2010
I installed ubuntu 10.04 a few days ago. And I am running into a few problems wherein my wireless network disconnects and prompts me again for password.
Even when I re-enter it (correctly of course) I cannot reconnect and I have to do a system restart. After the restart, the wireless stays connected but disconnects again after a while and I find myself stuck in this loop.
I do not know if the following is any help, but below I am producing the output of lspci command and a few log messages that I think maybe related to this problem
Here is the output of lspci command
And here are some messages that show up quite often in daemon.log

I have always had trouble in the past getting wireless adapters and what not to start working on Ubuntu but with each 6-month upgrade most problems are fixed while new ones are made. Since Ubuntu 10.10 just came out I thought I'd give it a go and test it with my hardware.
Before 10.10 Ubuntu could not connect with my wireless device and I had to do many things with gedit and such to get it working. After I have upgraded to 10.10 Ubuntu now recognizes my wireless device and network and I can search the web...but wait here it comes.
Literally minutes after a fresh install and first connection to my network my wireless signal will drop and prompt me to reconnect. Of course the first thing comes to mind I reconnect which doesn't work so I unplug the device and replug it making it works...Two minutes later my connection drops again and so I so reboot, and if you really want to know what happens next just restart this paragraph.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S325 (as it came from the factory, no mods), a Linksys WRT54G router, and Ubuntu 9.10/Karmic with all updates. I've had issues since I upgraded from 9.04/Jaunty to 9.10/Karmic. It did work for awhile (I think a few days), but then it suddenly just couldn't find our wireless network. I reformatted (with 9.10) thinking it had just been a bad install - now I can connect to our network, but it throws me off every two minutes. My roommate (Dell laptop, Vista) has no problems with the internet, and I've visited a friend (in another state) and used her wireless internet without issues (though I couldn't tell you which router they were using). I've gone into our router's settings (with both my laptop and my roommate's) to reset the router or change the security settings, but with no real progress.
Here is my ifconfig results:
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0f:b0:87:b3:80
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

I recently did a clean install on my ASPIRE 5490G laptop with 9.10x64 and am having some odd problems with wireless.
The wireless will suddenly drop and ask me for re-authentication of the encryption key which I put in. Then it will ask me again. It will then refuse to connect to the router.
If I hit cancel then on the notification area the nm-applet will not have the router listed in the wireless networks .
If I kill the nm-applet and restart it with ALT-F2 and run nm-applet --sm-disable it still does not show the networks available.
I know it is not the router as my flatmate who I share with uses a laptop with Windows 7 and they have no problems.

It keeps doing this all the time on ubuntu while on windows it works without any problems. This is what sais under the device manager for my wirelesscard stuff:

My wireless card disconnects frequently and sometimes it won't even connect at all. I've googled the card and the driver and it looks like others are having similar issues as well. [url]-[url]
My lspci | grep -i network is as follows
Code:
Under iwconfig, it's identified as wlan0, and I'm running kernel x86_64 2.6.32.9

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell XPS M1530. I'm getting very frequent disconnects to my wireless network, despite good signal. I have wicd and nm-applet running side by side, wicd doesn't work by itself and nm-applet won't get a new IP after reassociating with the AP.
Wireless connection is steady in Windows 7, so I'm guessing it's a problem with the driver.

I'm running Arch Linux on an Acer laptop and my wirless connection doesn't stay up. After a while it disconnects, and when I try to reconnect I get stuck with a "Waiting for authorization" message. I have to retry several times before getting the connection stay up for few minutes. This happens with both networkmanager and wicd. The strange thing is that the iMac that sits next to the laptop connects fine, and when I use my laptop within the university wireless network it works normally.
EDIT: I've tried to connect manually following the steps
iwlist wlan0 scan
wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

Wifi seems to disconnect fairly requently, sometimes reconnecting automatically and sometimes requiring me to re-enter the wep password.
I would like to make it so it stays connected.
The router is not very close, but I think it's close enough. I even moved it closer. Other devices (such as my N900 mobile phone) hold the connection without issue.
One complication is that there are several devices all with the same SSID, though there should be one which is clearly stonger.

I never had this problem with Ubuntu before and I am now confused. This is a clean install and I have not change anything about my AP so don't why this is happening.
Every 5min or so my wifi keeps disconnecting and sometimes have problems reconnecting. I also have Windows on this machine and it does not do this at all. My AP is set to channel 9(changing it makes no difference), WPA2. Logs below
Code:

I have recently purchased a cellular usb modem, a ZTE MF637. To my surprise and pleasure the device worked (almost) out of the box (almost, because I had to supply a user name and password to the wireless broadband connection properties).
Anyway, the problem is, that the connection work fine, but only for 20 minutes or so (I did not actually measure it), then I experience 0 network activity, and shortly after that the connection drops, and the device is no longer recognized as wireless broadband.
What I do is remove the device, replug it, and after a minute it reconnects. until the next drop.
I'm using Lucid on an Asus eee 1101HA.
Oh, one more thing, in lsusb, the device is listed as MF636, but the box reads MF637. I don't know if it matters, but there it is.

I'm currently using putty on my laptop to control my headless server (both Ubuntu 8.04.) I'm running an rsync job that ran all night long and still going all day today so far. I need to restart my laptop, but if I do, I'll break the SSH connection. If I SSH back in, I won't see the same thing (rsync is showing me each file it's copying) that I'm seeing now. (At least I think that's true. Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
So I guess my questions are..Is there some way to restore my SSH session when reconnecting? (So I can resume seeing which file is being copied and - more importantly - when the rsync job (finally) finishes? If not, how else can I know when the rsync job finishes?

I am using a static IP in my local network. I have a MSI netbook, U100, on which I've installed Ubuntu 10.10. This keeps disconnecting from the network, though the applet shows me that the netbook found it. I mention that I have a wireless network and another laptop, with WIN 7, where I have no problems with the Internet connection. I also have a 3G USB modem, which let me connect without problem.

My router is a Netgear router with Comcast, and after going on Ubuntu for a couple hours just doing normal things, the Internet disconnects. Then I have to restart my computer and start everything over again. I check the router and everything seems to be fine, I even unplug everything on the router first (like I am instructed to do so if this sort of thing happens) to make sure that's not what is causing the problem. It has to be the Ubuntu system.

Here is my problem:
I can reconnect to internet after disconnecting (this happens every 3-4 hours) only if I manually poke out and in ethernet cable to network adapter or reboot ubuntu. Even restarting network-manager not helps. My provider provides internet over pppoe. I have "DSL-connection 1" item in network managers gui menu. And that item disappears after disconnection.
pppd runs with following arguments: lcp-echo-failure 3 lcp-echo-interval 20 So where can I change this parameters, where is that configuration file?

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:
root's password:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
