Ubuntu Networking :: Doesn't Recognize Wireless Network?

Feb 14, 2010

I am exploring Ubuntu 8.10 on my Asus netbook without yet installing it. While using Ubuntu I cannot get it to recognize any wireless networks. Is this because I am only exploring Ubuntu and it has not yet been installed? The networks are recognized when using the XP operating system. Will Ubuntu recognize the wireless networks once it is installed as the operating system?

Networking :: Second Network Interface Doesn't Work?

I have two simultaneous active mobile connections through my two mobile phones and USB data cables. Yet I can only send/receive with one connection. Each of the phone modems have a node in /dev, namely ttyACM0 and ttyACM0. So the modems are detected correctly. After setting up two dial-up connections with the two modems I have two ip's. Ifconfig-a confirms this:

Ubuntu Networking :: Ad-hoc Network Doesn't Survive A Reboot / Avoid Having To Bring Down And Up Interface?

Mar 1, 2011

I'm configuring an HP Mini 110 (wireless BCM4313) to use it as a small Access Point (ad-hoc mode).

I want to make my configuration reboot friendly. With what I have right now, as soon as I reboot the laptop, the wireless interface configuration isn't correctly setup. I have to do "ifdown eth1; ifup eth1" manually.

Here is what I have in /etc/network/interfaces for the wireless interface code...

So the question is how can I avoid having to bring down and up the interface?

I had network manager running on my netbook karma install, but when I installed VNC as another display, logged into that other display and accidentally clicked on not to run network manager on startup cause there is already one running, it screwed up the network manager auto startup on my normal netbook display.I tried adding it back into auto start in settings but that has not worked. As always, thanks for any help you can give me getting this to auto start again on login, without deleting my kde cache(cos it is setup the way I want it).

Fedora Networking :: 3G Dongle Doesn't Appear In Network Manager?

Jan 20, 2009

I have run Fedora 9 and 10 on my Dell Inspiron 640m for about 6 months now and generally experience very few issues with it. Specifically I've been running Fedora 10 KDE 64bit since it was launched. Up until I had to reload it a couple of weeks ago my Vodafone Huawei E172 3G dongle worked perfectly with Network Manager. Since the reload the dongle is detected by the OS (lsusb lists it correctly, etc) but nothing I do will make it appear in Network Manager.

I've tried manually configuring a GSM connection then plugging it in, but no joy. I've also tried using it in my Acer Aspire One which runs Fedora 10 XFCE and it work, but when I try it in another Dell Laptop running Fedora 10 KDE 64 bit it doesn't. I'm assuming that a recent update must have caused some issue as it has definitely worked in both Dell laptops in the past. As mentioned I've reloaded recently but the other laptop hasn't been.

I'm unsure where to go from here. I haven't been able to get Vodafone's beta drivers working under F10 (although I did under F9) and can't find any posts on this issue. The version of Network Manager that I'm running is NetworkManager-0.7.0-1.git20090102.fc10.src.rpm, which was released shortly before I reloaded. Chances are I just didn't try my dongle between the update coming out and the reload, so didn't notice the problem before hand.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Doesn't Seem To Be Able To Use Modem To Connect To Internet

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). Hence I wish to use WvDial to try to connect instead.

It doesn't do the two green cicles thing when I connect my ethernet wire in. It also doesn't show any wireless AP when I left click on the icon. It doesn't even have an X mark on the bottom left of the icon when no network is detected

Ubuntu Networking :: NFS Doesn't Mount Correctly - Network Manager And Upstart

Sep 25, 2010

I have the following problem: There are three NFS mounts in /etc/fstab, which are automatically mounted. The network connection runs over NetworkManager. Since NWM brings up the network asynchronously, NFS doesn't mount correctly on the first try, but is loaded soon enough since mount automatically retries until it works.

I can live with the fact that I have an error in my boot messages, since everything is up in time for the user. But, I need a (selfmade) upstart script which depends on the NFS mount being up. Even using "remote-filesystems" as the trigger doesn't help, because the trigger is apparently sent after the first failed try (I checked with cat /proc/mounts in my script, the nfs mounts are clearly not up.) Can I somehow force the remote mounts to wait until NWM is up, or make the NFS mount emit an event when the mounts really get mounted?

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager - Adsl Connection - Ifup Ppp0 Doesn't Work

Nov 22, 2009

I have a pppoe adsl connection. When I disconnect and try to reconnect, network-manager keeps asking for my password. I type it again and again with no success. When I reboot, it works again. On ubuntu, I use pppoeconf and it works well. So on Fedora I made a connection with pppoe-setup but neither ifup nor
Code:

pppoe-connect
commands work. When I type
Code:
pppoe-connect
, it says
Code:
/usr/sbin/adsl-start: line 217: 13409 Terminated $CONNECT
"$@" > /dev/null 2>&1
. When I type

Ifup ppp0 doesn't work either. However, with exactly the same settings, ubuntu connects to the internet.

OpenSUSE Network :: System Doesn't Recognize Video Card

Mar 26, 2010

So the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Linksys WUSB600N And 11.2 - Ifconfig Doesn't Show A New Network Interface

Jan 24, 2010

I have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.

No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.

And it goes like this on and on and on, I've tried to connect at some firends gome with the same kind of connection and it doesn't work either.

I think that in an older version I did connect to an unprotected connection but I cannot take out the protection because it is my roomsmate wifi.

Networking :: Configure A Network Route To A Host For Testing Network Interface?

Aug 30, 2010

today I tried to configure a network route to a host for testing my network interface. Code: route add 192.168.1.15 eth0 As I have to eth interfaces and both interface got their IP from DHCP (192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12) and are in the same subnet, I shut the other interface down:

Code: ifconfig eth1 down Then I tried to test the interface by doing a ping to 192.168.1.15.
Problem: When I unplug the cable from eth0 (and eth1 is still plugged) the ping still works. Somehow my linux (it's debian) powers up again eth0 and pings over this port.

How can I stop my linux doing this. I just want to have the route added only on the one interface - not the other. Is it maybe some case of a default-gateway?
