Ubuntu Networking :: Ad-hoc Network Doesn't Survive A Reboot / Avoid Having To Bring Down And Up Interface?

Mar 1, 2011

I'm configuring an HP Mini 110 (wireless BCM4313) to use it as a small Access Point (ad-hoc mode).

I want to make my configuration reboot friendly. With what I have right now, as soon as I reboot the laptop, the wireless interface configuration isn't correctly setup. I have to do "ifdown eth1; ifup eth1" manually.

Here is what I have in /etc/network/interfaces for the wireless interface code...

So the question is how can I avoid having to bring down and up the interface?

Ubuntu Networking :: Bluetooth Keyboard Fails To Survive A Reboot?

Aug 18, 2011

I have successfully managed to connect a Razer Orochi bluetooth mouse with no issues. This also connects automatically when i start up the machine.

I also have a Logitech MX5000 keyboard that i can connect but it never survives the reboot. I have to manually connect it each time.

The only difference i can see between the two is the keyboard asks for a passkey whereas the mouse doesnt.

Ubuntu 11.04 32bit.

Ubuntu :: Nvidia Screen Resolution Changes Won't Survive Reboot

May 19, 2010

This is a new 9.10 installation. Screen resolution by default is 800x600. I've installed the 1.85 nvidia driver, which correctly identifies my monitor as a Samsung 931b (or whatever). Nvidia's gui suggests a 1280x1024, which is just what I want. When I try to save the changes to xorg.conf, I get a variety of errors, including (but not limited to) "...error parsing xorg.conf..". I've chmod 'ed the X11 directory, and the xorg.conf* files in it to 777, I end up with 1280x1024 until a reboot, after which I get 800x600 again (arrgg!).

Judging from the number of people posting here and in other places, this is common. Seems there would be a solution that works. Any suggestions?

Here is the current content of my xorg.conf file:

ebaxter@ebaxter-desktop:/etc/X11$ cat xorg.conf

After reboot, the sata partition I added into raid 5 is showing removed. I had to readd it using "mdadm --add" to make raid 5 array works.

General :: Startup Script - Getting IPTables To Survive Reboot

Aug 22, 2010

I am trying to follow the info on Getting IPTables to survive a reboot. Everything works until I reboot but the script does not run when linux starts. The article says to create a script so ifupdown loads these rules on boot:

Code:
echo "#!/bin/sh" > /etc/network/if-up.d/iptables
echo "iptables-restore < /etc/firewall.conf" >> /etc/network/if-up.d/iptables
chmod +x /etc/network/if-up.d/iptables it put what I think is a symlink in if-upd but iptables still does not survive reboot.

Ubuntu Networking :: Change Network Card And Bring Eth0 Up

I am applying a virtual interface (eth0:0) which is failing after the system reboots. It actually cause the default interface (eth0) to fail as well, I must manually go in and remove the configuration for the eth:0:0 and restart the network to get it running again. Networking :: Fedora 14 - Ethernet Interface Does Not Get Activated Upon Reboot?

Nov 19, 2010

I have installed Fedora 14 about 4 days ago. I have set all the networking parameters like dns path, hostname etc. I have also ensured that I select the check-box for "Enable automatically when system starts" for eth0 interface. But weirdly, whenever I boot my system(or restart), I see that the interface eth0 is disabled. I have to manually enter as root and enable it, each time I boot/reboot my system. Why is this happening? Could you please suggest a way so that I have eth0 interface enabled always when I boot up?Also, my domainname also is not boot-persistent. What steps should I take to ensure that the domainname set once persists across reboots?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Linksys WUSB600N And 11.2 - Ifconfig Doesn't Show A New Network Interface

Jan 24, 2010

I have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.

No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.

Networking :: Configure A Network Route To A Host For Testing Network Interface?

Aug 30, 2010

today I tried to configure a network route to a host for testing my network interface. Code: route add 192.168.1.15 eth0 As I have to eth interfaces and both interface got their IP from DHCP (192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12) and are in the same subnet, I shut the other interface down:

Code: ifconfig eth1 down Then I tried to test the interface by doing a ping to 192.168.1.15.
Problem: When I unplug the cable from eth0 (and eth1 is still plugged) the ping still works. Somehow my linux (it's debian) powers up again eth0 and pings over this port.

How can I stop my linux doing this. I just want to have the route added only on the one interface - not the other. Is it maybe some case of a default-gateway?

Ubuntu Networking :: Iwconfig/iwlist - No Wireless Extensions And Interface Doesn't Support Scanning?

Mar 11, 2010

The adapter I purchased (Zonet ZEW2508 ) uses the Ralink 2070 chipset - a fact that originally excited me because Ralink seems to be fairly loving to the Linux community. However, despite my best efforts I can't get the thing to work. Initially I tried following directions to set up the driver you can download from the Ralink website. The directions I found were written February first, and Ralink updated the driver February eighth - so as far as I can tell the directions no longer work. After screwing around trying to figure that out for a while I decided to give ndiswrapper a go.

Initially this seemed promising. I just harvested the drivers from the CD and followed one of the many ndiswrapper directions available - most helpful seemed initially to be the Ndiswrapper Troubleshooting Guide found in this forum, however the solutions offered there didn't work either. When I throw an ndiswrapper -l into the terminal it looks promising at first, it tells me the driver is installed and the device is present, but it just doesn't work. When I try iwconfig, or iwlist scan it tells me "no wireless extensions," and "interface doesn't support scanning" respectively. The only devices even listed are lo, eth0, and pan0. There's no wlan0 or anything of the sort.
