I just installed the 64-bit Kubuntu 11.04 and i've been having some issues getting the wifi to work. At first I went to additional drivers and activated the STA driver and restarted. After restarting when I went into the network manager and any option for wireless was disabled.

ok basically i have a new dell inspiron n5010 with a broadcom 4313 wifi card. it doesnt work with ubuntu studio 10.10. I have the drivers all installed and it works on ethernet with the broadcom STA proprietry driver. if i disable this driver the eth doesnt work. but the driver shows its working (screenshot-1).
There is no pop up or anything in the task bar for detected wifi. i open the network settings and it shows up with a wifi option but i have to go into properties and manually type in what i have "the_den_meribel". which didn't work. (screenshot-2).
i have tried the other driver broadcom-sta-common and that doesnt make it work either. screenshot-3. i did try to install the "lp-pphhy" or whatever it is (seacrh for firmware-b43 in synaptic).

I have installed F11 on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I tried to get the Broadcom 4311 wireless card to work by following the instructions for installing the Broadcom driver from this link: [url].

I removed the broadcom-wl package and installed the autoen package from DangerMouse. After rebooting wireless works but I still get the same errors when I give the command:

I had to disable encryption on the router to connect, but I guess that's a compromise I'll have to make right now. I will work on that some more after I get these error messages straightened out:

Note that wireless does seem to be working (though without encryption) despite the error messages. And I got these same error messages with the Broadcom driver but I could not get wireless working.
I installed openSUSE 11.4 in my laptop as dual boot.But wireless drivers are not working.Please give a suggestion to work wifi.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on a Dell Inspiron 6400 which had been running Ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) perfectly.Today I upgraded it to Natty and the wifi now refuses to work. Details: While no Additional Drivers were needed on 10.10, upon installing Natty it prompted me to install "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver". Now when it's active I don't even have the option 'Enable Wireless' (only Enable Networking). If I disable STA the Enable Wireless option comes back, yet I can't actually search for wifi networks or connect to my saved one. The keyboard key to enable/disable wireless also does nothing.
I can take this laptop to somewhere with an ethernet connection for an afternoon if need be, but am currently stumped as to what to do. Obviously I know this machine can handle Wifi under Ubuntu - it's definitely a Natty problem.
Yet another Linux newbie with wireless problems I'm afraid. I saw some postings that appear very similar but I don't have any Linux experience and don'h to make uncontrolled changes to the environment without expert advice.Background: I have an old laptop (HP Pavilion dv9000) with Vista installed and a troubled history (overheating motherboard failure), so I put it on the shelf and replaced it with a new Windows 7 laptop (Dell Studio 1555). But I have been intrigued by the Ubuntu reviews and thought I would dig out the old laptop and install Kubuntu 11.04 (replacing the 2 Vista partitions with a single Kubuntu partition).
Kubuntu installation was easy and I am impressed by the Kubuntu interface, but I soon noticed that it was not detecting my wireless router, which works fine for everything else (Dell, Sony Bravia TV and also an internet radio). The wired connection is okay (using it now) so I guessed the problem was Kubuntu notognising the Broadcom BCM4311.The network interface tool shows the wired connection but the Wireless tab is greyed out.I also installed Wicd Network Manager but that just confirmed what I knew.I noticed other threads have asked for the lspci and lsusb details so here they are:

I just put 10.10 on my D830 and I love it except for a delay when I'm using the internet. When I click on a link while surfing the web it takes about 13 seconds before it responds. After that it works just fine.
My Windows 7 PC and my Macbook Pro don't do that so I'm guessing it has something to do with Ubuntu.
The network icon and sound icon disappeared from the panel all of sudden one day while i was using ubuntu 9.10 and the network got disconnected. It used to work fine before when i was using ubuntu 9.04 and even after i updated to 9.10, but then that happened. I added the notification area back to the panel but now ubuntu cannot even find any wireless networks. When i connect a LAN cable to my laptop the internet works fine, but the wireless networks area in the network icon is grayed out and it doesn't show any wireless networks. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop and my network card is Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05).

Things seem to install fine, but the wireless network remains unavailable (wireless network is disabled).
If someone can walk me through the trouble-shooting process, I tried the solution suggested in the sticky at the top too but no luck.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, but I can't connected to the Internet with a wired or wireless connection. I have a BT Home Hub 2 wireless router. I can connect to the Internet when running Windows Vista, but not with Ubuntu.
I tried installing the Broadcom STA driver off of the live disk, which initially seemed to work. However, I still couldn't connect to the Internet and when I clicked on System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, there weren't any proprietary drivers to install or that had been installed. Also, when I reboot, Ubuntu tries to connect to my network automatically but always fails. That's what makes me think that a driver has been installed, but just isn't the right one or isn't working.

The seems to be properly installed(as per the screen shots) but still I can not see any wireless networks. I checked out most of the forum but could not find any exactly matching situation. find the attached results of the below command which might give you idea : sudo lshw -C network
As per one of the screen shot it seems that "This drive is activated and currently in use" still I can not see any routers(including mine) which I can connect. Also the Wifi LED is not glowing.
When I freshly installed my Ubuntu 10.04, broadcom wireless worked after I installed the driver using hardware manager. But somehow it got de-activated, and not its not working. I need help related to that. Here is some output which might help you to understand the problem.

I have a DEll Mini 9 - it has worked fine even though it has a limited memory. But Husband only uses to have a surf. It now wont connect to net. The Broadcom4312 Wireless Card is not working on Obunto. It has a Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini card installed and Obunto Edition Version 8.04 Have phoned Dell and after several calls on Hold for over 15 mins each time and getting nowhere fast i am coming to you guys/girls. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I just did a fresh wipe and install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell D630 Latitude. I installed connected to the internet and ubuntu recognized I was missing firmware and I installed and rebooted. Now the "firmware missing" notice is gone but I don't know how to connect to my wifi. I can access internet with the ethernet cable.

I've installed successfully the ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my DELL Latitude 430.Everything work out of the box except the wifi, I cannot find a way to get working.Using the lshw command, I can see that the interface is listed, but status is disabled.On the Network Manager, status I get is device not ready.As a FYI, bluetooth seems working perfect (I've not tried to pair with any device)as this is the only roadblock I face before enjoying Ubuntu on my laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Arch Linux with an Intel 965 GM video chipset (from dmesg). I'm using the xf86-video-intel driver, and Xorg (using xfce4) works flawlessly, including compositing. Before getting into details about the HDMI, I'd like to ask why I don't gave an xorg.conf.d/10-moniter.conf, it's not there, just evdev, quirks, and synaptics (because I figured that moniter.conf could be modified to include HDMI). So, basically when I'm on my XFCE4 desktop, I plug in the HDMI cable and to the TV, and on windows, it would would work, but on Arch the TV just says: "No input", and my desktop just stays the same, so absolutely nothing happens. If I have it connected upon bootup, the HDMI displays (the BIOS and grub menu on the TV) until I select to boot Arch linux on Grub, then the tv screen goes blank. I've tried Googling this but I got no decent results, just a bunch of random posts of audio not working with Nvidia.
PS - I did dmesg and lspci (with grep HDMI) and no results, so maybe it doesn't even recognize it, but then what do I do? There's obviously Linux support for HDMI...
Just got a Dell Inspiron N5030. Internal speaker works. I can make a skype test service with internal speaker device. When I plugged the head phone, the head phone does not work. No problem with the head phone indeed. I have searched the forum for N5030 key word. But never able to find one.

The only problem I've had so far seems to be a common one but I haven't found a specific solution for a dell inspiron 700m. I have sound through the headphones but not through the laptop internal speakers. I've played with the alsamixer settings endlessly but no success, and I'm 99% sure that it's not an issue with the hardware or speaker wiring. I suspect I need to add an 'options snd-hda-intel model=xxxxx' line to alsa-base but not sure what argument to use.

I am new to Linux. About 72 hours in, and I must say. I am quite impressed. Except for a small issue. I cannot seem to figure out how to get my wireless card working. I have used the bcm43xx technique with no avail. And am working on ndswrapper. The good news is I think I have the .sys file that works. But I don't have the .inf. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange problem with my wireless card (I never had troubles with it so I'd be glad if you could help me in making it work again). I have installed the restricted STA driver for my Broadcom BCM4311 wireless card, and apparently the card is recognized, and in fact I can "see" the available wireless networks and connect to my one.
The strange things is that even if I connect to my network I can't navigate. If I link an ethernet cable, start navigating and after disconnect the ethernet and keep using only the wireless, I can navigate without problems.
I have a problem with my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless on Jessie Cinnamon.
I have installed the b43 firmware and after that everything seemed working but just for a few seconds.
I have tried to reboot and after that I can't browse the internet just for a few seconds and after that Iceweasel loading and loading and nothing's happening.
I can't surf on the net just with cable but the wifi setup shows everything is okay 95% signal strength and connected.
Also tried reinstall the firmware and reboot and it's all the same after.
I can easily use my wifi with my smartphone too.
