View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel 3945ABG WiFi card in my Laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400). The problem is that I'm not able to get my card detect the Wireless Network. I'll list the prolem more specifially below. O.S. Fedora 12 x86-64
1. The Network Icon on the Taskbar (is it what it is called here in Linux??) shows Wireless is Disabled under the Wireless Networks. Wired Net works fine.
2. If I goto System->Pref->Network Connection the Network Tab is empty.
3.Under System->Admin->Network Config I can see two Devices; one is eth0 (active) with a checked check box. Second is wlan0 which is Inactive and has a checked Checkbox. The Activate and Deactivate buttons are disabled for both these. If I go and see in the Properties of the wlan0 it says controlled by Network Manager checked but the Network Manager comes up empty.
4. This forces me to remove that "controlled by network manager box" which enables the activate and deactivate buttons. Now I can Activate my wlan0 adapter and the light on the Laptop for WiFi starts up. During startup (activation I get this error in the pop-up box:
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.). But the popup eventually closes auto. The Network Config box now shows it active but the Taskbar Icon still shows Wireless is disabled. And still the Network Connections has an empty box under Wireless tab. I donno what to do next. The card worked fine with Ubunto 9.04, openSuSE 11.2 (both 32 bit btw) and Fedora 11 again 32 bit.

working to sort out the damn wireless for too long. Mine in cent05 5.2 . network manager is on and I can see the icon on tray. It list all the wireless connections too, but just won't connect. WPA encry is disabled. further details below:

Windows crashed yet again so I thought I'd switch to Ubuntu. Install of 9.10 went flawlessly, everything looked great and worked perfectly. Next day after restart the wireless wouldn't connect. I looked around for solutions and used a wired connection to install wicd and suddenly wireless worked again. But next day after restart wireless wouldn't connect again -
I keep getting a popup asking for my WPA key despite the fact that I know the key is entered correctly. I decided to install 10.04, thinking maybe that would help. It didn't look like wireless was working but after a restart it worked and it worked again after another restart! Fantastic! But today, I'm back to square one. Using Windows again.
TL;DR - Wireless won't connect to the network which it can definitely see - repeatedly presents "Enter WPA key" prompt despite key being correct and wireless working flawlessly under Windows.

how to make intel 3945 to work on RHEL5 ? Apparently that hardware is not officially supported by Red Hat so they do not provide drivers. what happens on my PC is after login I do not have the wireless card led is off and when I try to start the wireless connection I get

I had to send my laptop back for repairs, so I have an older Dell 1720 laptop that I threw the Hard Drive into, similar specs, just the wireless card is different. So what i need to do is somehow activate the driver for the Intel 3945 wireless card in this dell laptop.

But I can't connect to internet with BackTrack4, so I download it from Window 7 and copy to my thumb drive, and past to the desktop of BackTrack4.
Then I open terminal, decompress the tar file.
Another folder(ipwraw-ng) is appear on the desktop.
Then I change to the "ipwraw-ng" directory (cd /ipwraw-ng)

I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. I've tried removing and modprobing iwl3945 but no luck.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Gateway M520 laptop, and after failing to get the Broadcom wireless chip that came with it working I swapped it out for an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get wireless to work. The chip doesn't appear to be turned on (it is detected though), and the hotkey to switch wireless on/off (Fn+F2) doesn't work in Ubuntu. I also am not sure if I have the proper drivers to get the chip working with Ubuntu, and I'm not sure how to figure that out.

I have a Dell Vostro 200 with the above wireless card in it and I cant get it to work. I have been on Intel's website and downloaded e1000-8.0.18 and installed as the instructions. But it is still greyed out on the Network Manager. I have just installed Ubuntu Desktop the latest current version.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I originally started using Ubuntu (10.04) I have had problems with my wireless card. Now I have updated to 10.10 and it has stopped working entirely. I am using a "Dell Vostro 1520" with an "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN" wireless card.Here are the details: 10.04
In this distribution version, if I had the wireless switch on my laptop activated at startup my wireless card would refuse to activate. There is a light to show when it is activated and this was off, but I checked anyway and wireless capabilities don't work when it is in this state. It didn't even resolve the problem when I switched it off and on again (although this caused the wireless indicator to blink on for less than a second when switched on).This was manageable because I found two workarounds:
1. Wait until my laptop had logged into Ubuntu, then activate the wireless card which would start and work as it should.
2. If I had already logged into Ubuntu I could put my computer on standby, switch off the card, come out of standby and reactivate the card while Ubuntu was running.As I said, this was completely manageable, and I got used to it. 10.10
Now that I have upgraded to 10.10 all workarounds fail, I can't use a wireless connection in Ubuntu, as my card won't activate, I cant even get the light to blink as I could before. The only way I can use WiFi is by switching to Windows.I tend to use Ubuntu for my university programming work.
To make Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card work on ubuntu, you just need to download the firmware from here decompress it and copy the ucode in /lib/firmware. This works in jaunty. My laptop is a HP Elitebook 8440p.

I installed ubuntu a couple weeks ago after I got another hard drive in the expansion bay. I have the drive partitioned into two sections, 250gb for file storage, and 250gb for the linux OS. Currently no other OS is installed on the other harddrive.

Im trying to connect to my college wireless network. I have looked a thinkwiki and no one has posted any bugs. Any ideas on getting it working again?
I'm new to linux. I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04. It has all been going ok, but the wireless just stopped working all of a sudden. The indicator light turned off and when I tried to turn it back on (Fn+F2) nothing happens. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, the wireless might work; but if the signal is lost the LED on my laptop turns off and I cannot reconnect. Also, in these strange cases that the wireless works when I restart I can manually turn it off (Fn+F2), but nothing happens when I try to switch it back on.
In the menu on the upper right corner I see 'Enable Networking' is checked, but 'Enable Wireless' cannot be modified.

I was trying to update the drivers for my wireless card and it no longer works. I have a cisco pcmcia card that I got working to use as a backup, but I would prefer to use my internal card. The card is the Intel Pro 2200BG. Please let me know what information is needed to diagnose and correct this issue. I've got a Dell precision with Kubuntu 9.10. Wifi worked fine on that machine for months, but stopped working last week. I don't know what happened, but I recently did an "apt-get dist-upgrade". That might have something to do with it.
When I boot in Windows, wifi works fine.

I have a Dell E6500 with and Intel 5300 wireless agn card running Lucid x64. Wireless works fine and speeds are great except when I download with either the browser or thru a torrent or even updates. Once I get to around 100 megs in to the file wireless stops working and the only way to get it working again is to disconnect and reconnect to the AP. I have installed the back ports and tried several other fixed to get this to work but nothing has helped. One more note this happens on 2 other wireless routers that I have tried so I know that it's not limited to my Linksys.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wireless worked out of the box for the past few months. When I was running low on battery recently, I put the laptop to sleep. When I woke it up, there was a black screen with a flashing underscore. I pressed a bunch of buttons but nothing happened. Then suddenly it said something about a wireless hardware error and I did a hard reset by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, wireless was greyed out. There's no hardware switch to enable and disable wireless and the software switch had no effect. I tried echoing into the 'state' of the adapter but it didn't let me. When I tried sudo ifconfig wlan0 up it gave me the following error:

Since an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04, all wireless devices for me in the plasma network manager applet are not functioning properly on a Dell Latitude E4310. Specific problem: No wireless networks appear in the plasma network manager applet. Manually-configured networks do not connect. A separate CDMA card appears, but cannot establish a connection. The CDMA card does function on 10.10 machines, and formerly worked on this machine. The only wireless 'network' that appears in the plasma network manager widget is 'hidden network'. Manually adding a network and checking "Connect Automatically" does nothing. I attempted a fresh install after the upgrade itself failed the work. There are no networks to click on, and selecting the device itself merely shows the status page.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy wireless LAN connection on this machine occasionally stops working. The network traffic bar shows periodic very small transmissions but the failure of all network dependent applications (Firefox, package manager, etc.) indicates to me that the machine is no longer talking to the net. I can fix it by reselecting my home network in nm-applet from the drop-down list. This causes the machine to disconect, reconnect and all is well for some random period of time thereafter. I don't know if this is related or not, but a couple of months ago I unsuccessfully attempted to share a hotel's wired Internet connection over my wireless card. I may have hosed some settings or it could be unrelated.The "unknown interface" portion of the restart attempt is interesting but I don't know enough to fix it.
I'm using a Vaio TT, which seems to use an Intel 5100 WiFi chipset, and a Linksys WRT54G2 (firmwares 1.0.1 and 1.0.4), ubuntus 10.10 and 10.04.
Wifi works fine out of the box. However if the other vaio tt in our office (running windows 7) comes online, my laptop stops being able to make new connections. It WILL stay connected to chat servers, and downloads SOMETIMES continue to work. However all new HTTP requests / ssh connections / rdp connections / pings fail. The laptop still appears to be "connected" to the wifi network.
This may also happen after an undetermined amount of time without the extra vaio. It is not solved by reconnecting or rebooting. Once the extra vaio leaves the building, everything works fine again. This problem does not happen at all if I boot into windows.
I'm dual booting windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11z with an embedded WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless card made from Intel. I only use it for wifi, not 3g or wimax. I installed the latest driver from intellinuxwireless.org, iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1, but it still doesn't seem to work. I ran these terminal commands from another thread:

In the ubuntu help section it tells me to flip a manual wifi switch to enable it, but pressing my windows wifi button, F2, doesn't appear to do anything while in ubuntu. The only experience I have working with linux is typing some terminal commands on my android phone to root it.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 on a thinkpad X201. Wireless was working, but has stopped. It still works in windows, so it is not a hardware problem. iwlist wlan0 scan sees the available networks, but I cannot associate with any of them, including my own.
Last night was my first attempt to connect to a secured network, and nm-applet failed to make the connection even after entering the WEP encryption key and SSID. By turning networking off in nm-applet I was able to manually bring up the connection by editing /etc/network/interfaces and using ifup wlan0. (nm-applet seemed to be interfering as long as networking was turned on there.) Wireless was working perfectly until I rebooted. Now I can't get it to work at all. (There were some partially completed security updates which completed when I rebooted. I hope this wasn't the cause of the breakdown.)I notice that wpa_supplicant is always running. I tried killing it in case it might be interfering with the connection process, but something keeps restarting it.
