View 9 RepliesI have an Intel 3945ABG WiFi card in my Laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400). The problem is that I'm not able to get my card detect the Wireless Network. I'll list the prolem more specifially below. O.S. Fedora 12 x86-64
1. The Network Icon on the Taskbar (is it what it is called here in Linux??) shows Wireless is Disabled under the Wireless Networks. Wired Net works fine.
2. If I goto System->Pref->Network Connection the Network Tab is empty.
3.Under System->Admin->Network Config I can see two Devices; one is eth0 (active) with a checked check box. Second is wlan0 which is Inactive and has a checked Checkbox. The Activate and Deactivate buttons are disabled for both these. If I go and see in the Properties of the wlan0 it says controlled by Network Manager checked but the Network Manager comes up empty.
4. This forces me to remove that "controlled by network manager box" which enables the activate and deactivate buttons. Now I can Activate my wlan0 adapter and the light on the Laptop for WiFi starts up. During startup (activation I get this error in the pop-up box:
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.). But the popup eventually closes auto. The Network Config box now shows it active but the Taskbar Icon still shows Wireless is disabled. And still the Network Connections has an empty box under Wireless tab. I donno what to do next. The card worked fine with Ubunto 9.04, openSuSE 11.2 (both 32 bit btw) and Fedora 11 again 32 bit.
Wireless worked fine on live cd, but for some reason not after install. I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. Here is my wireless output information.

i can't connect to my wireless network (wpa psk) with ubuntu 11.04 and my wifi card Intel 3945 ABG. i've done some search on the forums here and none of the workaround i've found works.

working to sort out the damn wireless for too long. Mine in cent05 5.2 . network manager is on and I can see the icon on tray. It list all the wireless connections too, but just won't connect. WPA encry is disabled. further details below:

Windows crashed yet again so I thought I'd switch to Ubuntu. Install of 9.10 went flawlessly, everything looked great and worked perfectly. Next day after restart the wireless wouldn't connect. I looked around for solutions and used a wired connection to install wicd and suddenly wireless worked again. But next day after restart wireless wouldn't connect again -
I keep getting a popup asking for my WPA key despite the fact that I know the key is entered correctly. I decided to install 10.04, thinking maybe that would help. It didn't look like wireless was working but after a restart it worked and it worked again after another restart! Fantastic! But today, I'm back to square one. Using Windows again.
TL;DR - Wireless won't connect to the network which it can definitely see - repeatedly presents "Enter WPA key" prompt despite key being correct and wireless working flawlessly under Windows.

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode.Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

Just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu(unity), and my wireless isn't working. I have the 14e4:4315 Wireless Card so I followed this posts [URL].... And still have no wifi, when I click the icon in the menu bar it says under "Wireless Networks": "wireless is disabled by hardware switch", which ins't true because on my Vostro 1520, there is only one switch and it is in the on position. I've tried 3 versions of ubuntu and none of them work with wifi getting tired of it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
I can connect to the internet with wired connection. The switch for the device is on but this command "sudo lshw -C network" has the following results:

I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.

I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.

I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.

I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.
I have Lenovo G550 and openSUSE 11.4. Everything's ok, wifi without problems, I could connect to anywhere I wanted to, but yesterday while laptop was running and was connected actually by wire to internet, after removing the wire I realized that I cannot connect to wifi (the laptop was hibernated during night) - even the light diode in the front of the laptop was not shining. I went to yast and realized that the wlan0 isn't enabled and there's new eth1 port. But the wlan by ifup I cannot start and the eth1 I cannot start as well.

My wireless is not working after a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.2. I cannot connect in KDE or Gnome. I installed cnetworkmanger and I can't get anything to connect. My wired network card on this laptop has been down for a long time. All I have is wireless. I have to roll back today to 11.1 if I can't fix it, but I really have been looking forward to 11.2 for some time. This is really a stupid bug to have in supposedly production ready software. Maybe I should add that in KDE knetworkmanager does not load by itself. I have to load it manually via console every reboot. I get this:

It puts the icon in the system tray, and annoyingly hides it, so it took me a while to evern realize it was there. When I point my mouse at it, it says "Networking Information Not Available". When I click it, it says Network Management Disabled. cnetworkmanager spews out a bunch of errors and finishes by saying it can't find any .service files. I configured the device via 'Network Devices' in YaST. Hardware info says it is using the iwl3945 kernel driver. Everything was fine in OpenSUSE 11.1 and 11.0.
I just finished putting openSUSE 11.4 on my Compaq Presario V5000. I have been trying for hours to find the answer of how to get my wireless card to work. I can't connect to my router wirelessly and the on/off button for the wireless mode does not light up when pressed.
As far as I can tell from what I have already tried, I have a broadcoamm wireless card. It is a bm4318. I have b43-fwcutter installed and I have tried updating my firmware through the terminal. I have also used 'sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware'. It appeared successful, but the laptop still cannot make a wireless connection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the wake of a spate of posts complaining that wireless is not working in 10.04 here is mine. I'm on a (relatively old) AMD Duron 1.5Ghz, 1.5G memory with a VIA KM-266 motherboard. Wireless worked fine in 9.10. With a fresh install of the new 10.04, the usb wireless adapter is not detected, the tab to add a new wireless connection is grayed out, starting the KNetworkManager (did I got the name right?) does nothing (that is, no application starts), etc.note: if you are wondering how I am accessing the internet, I just fired up the 9.10 live CD, which as you can imagine is not the most practical thing in the world.Here is the info.
