Well I recentelly read some tutorials about "cracking" wep networks, and seems like it's kind of easy ( I Haven't tried'em out since I don't have my laptop right now, but i'll try them as soon as i get it back )So i'd like to change my network protocol to wpa2, but I REALLY GOT NO IDEA on how to do this.Does someone knows about a tutorial on how to do this?

So is there anything wrong with that "Encryption key: off" statement? I suspect that encryption key only applies to WEP, but not to WPA2 encryption, but I am not sure. So my question is, can I ignore that statement and assume that my encryption is fine?
Besides, where does knemo read the information about encryption from? As I mentioned, knemo detects that the encryption is active. Are there any other commands to make sure that my encryption is safe and well?
In my toshiba m900 with realtek wireless lan. i canot detect any network. should i see any network? i setup my access point using wpa2 in windows. how about the ubuntu 10.04? i mean do they support wpa2 and wireless issues?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy college runs a WPA2 LEAP secured wireless network, and I am having problems connecting to it under Ubuntu. I can connect to it just fine under Windows, just not under Ubuntu. Under Ubuntu I can connect to other networks such as my home WEP secured wireless network, so it shouldn't be a hardware or driver issue.
When I do connect to the WPA2 LEAP network it recognizes the network and tries to connect, it pops up the login box for me to enter my username and password, but after I click connect it pops back up again about 10 seconds later. It pops up like this about 3 times total, then after the third time it stops trying to connect and the Wireless Network Disconnected message is shown.
I've recently installed Lucid Lynx 10.04 on my Dell Studio which uses an internal BCM4315 wi-fi card to connect to the internet. I was hoping it would work upon the install, but deep down I knew I'd have to tweak it a little bit to get it up and running the way I wanted. The card was instantly recognized but, at first, wasn't detecting wireless networks. This was quickly and painlessly fixed using System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, which I used to install Broadcom B43 wireless driver (b43-fwcutter). I rebooted and could not detect the local wireless networks.
I entered my password to my home network (correctly, I quadruple checked) but, unfortunately, it continuously tries to connect to the network with no successful. Occasionally I'm prompted to re-entered the password and the process repeats. The network I'm trying to connect to is a WPA/WPA2 network which I've heard to be troublesome. I haven't yet tried connecting to a WEP network but I'm fairly certain it will work and I will get back to this post when I test it in a few hours.
I'm curious if this question has been answered or if the problem has been solved and I just simply don't have the google skills to find it.

Im trying to connect to my wireless network via terminal. My wifi network has a WPA2 encription. Im running ubuntu server 10.04. wifi interfaces are active, i can "see" my network with airodump. The only thing is i dont really know how to configure my iwconfig to connect to it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04, everything is fine, but the wireless. When I try to connect to my WPA2 protected network, it is grayed out. SO I click Connect to Hidden Wireless Network, and this window pops up. I put in my network name, the security type, and password. It acts like it is connecting, the wireless icon is going up and down. But then another window pops up, saying Authentication required by wireless network and the down arrow is grayed out. View 2 Replies View RelatedIn setting up wireless connections I have ran into an array of problems. First, when I installed the new OS on my laptop I had to get the correct drivers and firmware for it to display and connect to any connections, had no problem here connecting to a secure wireless network (WPA or WPA2). I then installed Ubuntu on my desktop and had to find the correct driver for the Netgear WNDA3100v2 USB adapter, got it all installed with the Windows Wireless Drivers tool or w/e it is. This made all the available connections come up. I tried connecting with the WPA password I was given for the network and will not connect.
I had the guy managing the network change the one I connect to, to a WEP Passphrase Shared Key thinking this would solve my issue, still nothing. And also in doing so, now my laptop will not connect to the wireless network using the Passphrase. I do not want to go back to Windows, and I will be getting rid of my Lan connection soon so i need a solution to fix this wireless connection problem.
O currently have 2 USB WiFi adaptors: a Linksys WUSB54G v4 and a D-Link DWA-110. Both these USB adaptors worked extremely well in Windows: they could connect to any network: unsecured, WEP and WPA1/2I have tested these adaptors in DreamLinux, OpenSUSE and Mandriva: in these 3 distributions, i could use both adaptors to connect to my home's WPA2 network.Both adaptors also work well in Fedora 10.In Fedora 11 Alpha though, its a different thing: only the D-Link is able to connect to the home WPA2 network. My Linksys WUSB54Gv4 can 'see' the network, but when i enter in the WPA2 key, it takes forever to try to negotiate a connection before timing out and disconnecting.

I enter my WPA key, then it tries to connect, but the WPA key screen appears again saying that I may have typed in my WPA key incorrectly. However, I checked and it is the right WPA key.

So perhaps the password is somehow getting lost in translation from Ubuntu to the Time Capsule?
I've been having a network problem that I've been able to temporarily solve by rebooting the router, but even that can be shaky at times, and it can sometimes disturb others' internet activites, so I'd really like to tackle this while I can. I had an old thread about this, but it's ancient history by now, and plus which, I've got a bit more Linux experience and patience than I did before.
The basic problem is that NetworkManager will associate and connect to my home wireless network, but a) it won't let me ping the router or anywhere else ("Destination Host Unreachable"), and b) the connection lasts for maybe a couple minutes at most. If I reset the router, however, 9 times out of 10 it will associate and connect successfully and I can get online, but I have to run a constant ping to the router with a 10-second interval, otherwise it drops the connection, unless I'm doing a lot of other heavy network activity.

The last prompt line is included because I cancelled it myself; it didn't abort on its own. If left unmonitored, it basically keeps doing this over and over, with no visible network activity at all.
With NetworkManager, I can keep selecting the network's ESSID over and over, and it seems to reconnect, but I still can't ping out anywhere. I'm using a Netgear WN111v1 wireless adapter with ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers. I have no idea what the chipset is, and I doubt that Linux drivers exist for it, even if I knew what it was. The router is using WPA2 security (hence my trying wpa_supplicant)

I only include this for format checking purposes. The commented out "psk" is the actual text passphrase, while the uncommented one is (presumably) a hex representation of the same key. Is this correct? I've never done this with wpa_supplicant before, I've only used NetworkManager (which is a pain in the @$$ because it requires X to run, and so it disconnects any time I log out/back in ).
Is there any hope of getting my wireless connection permanently working, so that I don't have to reset the router every time I need to reboot or log out/back in?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

This location need full VPN access back to the main office's network.Anyhow we have spent about 3 solid days attempting to make this work without any great success. View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop (running Arch Linux) and a desktop. Until recently my desktop computer ran Arch but I'm taking Debian for a spin now. At my home there is a wireless network with WPA2 encoding. I use the wicd gui to connect to this. I assume, that since I can see the SSID in the wicd window, all drivers are correctly installed and functioning. On my Arch computer, wicd reports this SSID as having WPA2 encoding, but on the Debian computer, it shows up as WEP. Even when I choose the correct encryption thing, WPA2 (preshared key), and put the correct password in, I can't get a connection up.

When I use NetworkManager, WPA or WPA2 are not an option. I'm give four encryption methods (WEP 40, WEP 128, LEAP and Dynamic 801.x) Is this a problem with my Thinkpad T23's 802.11b wireless card? It keep asking Secretes for , even after I input everything correctly. It works fine with not secured wireless.In Gnome there was no problem with connecting to this wireless service.
I've currently got a Xen box with 3 Virtual machines on it, in a routed setup. I'd like to put them all on a private internal network as well, which I'm assuming I'd do with a dummy network card and a xen bridge, but I can't find any information about setting up the xen Bridging setup on top of the existing network-route instlal.

I installed wicd but I can't seem to connect to this network, is there a way to add this functionality to wicd, and if so, how do I do that (links to a how-to or guide would be nice, I've yet to find one).

I've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.
Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.
After updating to 10.04, I was able to connect easily to my network. However after getting a new router "Linksys WRT610Nv2", I was initially able to set up my wireless "WPA & WPA2 Personal"-encrypted network, but for whatever reason it stopped working completely.
My Asus EeePC 1000H does recognize my network, but its does not want to connect anymore, whatever I try. If I use no encryption, or go wired, everything works well. If I go on other networks everything is ok. I even reinstalled Passwords and Encryption Keys. Other computers (Windows-bad XP and Vista, laptop and desktop [sorry, but working on it to get rid of them!]) have no problems, either wired or wireless connecting with my network. Booting under 9.10, everything works ok as well. In Ubuntu 10.04, going into Network Connections and Edit my network, this is what I see:

All i really want to do is be able to ssh into my other linux system. I am not interested in internet sharing, or even file sharing.[linux laptop with unused ethernet port]-windows-mobile-ppc connected by usb for internet-tehtering [linux running on my wii accross the room]-nintendo lan adapter.I want to be able to ssh login to my wii, from my laptop. I have three 64 bit machines, a netbook and 32 bit notebook and my internet goes via an Wifi router to which other Windoooze machines connect.
