Ubuntu Networking :: How To Make NTop Not Start At Boot

Jan 20, 2011

I have installed ntop and it works fine, but I do not use it every day. Somehow it installed to start on boot. I do not want it to start automatically at system start/boot. I looked and searched, and looked some more but I can not figure out how to stop it from starting at boot time. I'm using Unbuntu 10.

Networking :: NTOP Not Displaying Ssh Protocols

Jan 4, 2011

I have setup NTOP on Centos 5.5 and am not seeing traffic that I am supposed to be seeing. We have a product that uses many different services including ssh. I have this system as a target on mirrored ports but am not seeing any ssh connections or activity when I look at the host machine that is connected to the target ssh client and vice versa. When I look under TCP/UDP Service/Port Usage it is not displaying all the services that are being used especially SSH. What could it be?

In the office I use firefox for my work items and chrome for my personal items. I currently use proxy switchy with chrome to browse through an ssh tunnel to my home server. The chrome/switchy part works fine.In order to do this I have to open a command window every morning and execute:ssh -p8181 -D 9999 user@myhomeserver.comThen the command window asks my password and I am up and running. (my ssh server at home is running on port 8181)Is there a way to script this so I don't have to open the command window and enter my password every day (and also to prevent a visible command window from being open and visible)

Ubuntu Networking :: Start Wifi At Boot (without Being Logged In)

Jul 18, 2010

I use Network Manager applet to connect to my lan (I don't use dhcp however). The problem is that my machine runs several servers (http, ftp, smb, ...) and should be ALWAYS accessible whenever the computer power is ON, even if there is no user logged. Another problem is that the connection is dropped if you logout and then login with a different user who doesn't know wireless settings (eg my mother, sister, brohter...)

So, is there a way to get a wireless connection at boot time? I mean, using Network Manager. Previously I used wicd or cli tools (iwconfig and wpa_supplicant) but then I switched to NM cause it was more ubuntuish. I'd still prefer not to use wicd, but NM really seems not good software to me

Debian Configuration :: Default Admin Password For Ntop

Feb 1, 2016

I installed it from the packages list and the eye candy has been good.

However, in trying to fix an error showing up in syslog

Feb 1 17:37:38 host ntop[30764]: **ERROR** Buffer too short @ dataFormat.c:144 (increase to at least 56) [230982 years, 187 days 7:107374]

I started looking at the configuration files; well attempted. It asks for a login. It isn't any user or root, but apparently is admin, but IO don't ever remember setting it.

Various web search suggests it is done at compile(downloaded compiled) /installation, but I have no recollection of entering any.

There is a Redhat/Centos wrinkle ntop -set-admin-passwd=password; but that puts out a lot of lines, then hangs and has no effect.

Note, despite message(old version of ntop), it is up todate in packages.

Fedora Networking :: F-12 Openvpn Server Does Not Start At Boot

Nov 23, 2009

This was working and stable on f-10 and f-11. Fresh f-12 install including openvpn, Copied /etc/openvpn/* to new system as root from working f-11 syatem. /etc/init.d/openvpn start (and stop) works as advertised HOWEVER when set to start at boot using chkconfig or Services Configuration program, openvpn does not start. I must manually start it every time. When started, it does work without error messages in the log.

I tried removing the NetworkManager-vpn module with no effect. Thought it could somehow be overriding the auto startup of openvpn at boot.

Fedora Networking :: The Eth0 Device Does Not Start On Boot?

I just finished installing Fedora 12 on a rack mount server. I was modifying the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file to use a static IP address, but now nothing works. The device does not boot on start up or anything.Currently, ifcfg-eth0 looks like:

Quote:

DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=none[code].....

The eth0 device does not start on boot; the server does not get the IP address, is not reachable over the network, and will not connect to the internet....
