I have a Centos 5.4 server, I would like to know how to start NFS automtically when the server boots up so that I won't have to manually start the service after the server boots up. where and how do I accomplish this?
View 3 Repliesi use ubuntu 10.10 installed in wubi on my girlfriend's machine.in order to connect to the internet i had to install a dialer script and then i need to type in terminal: sudo cable-start and then password BUT i wish this to happen automatically when booting the machine.i am sure that it is possible, but have no clue how to do it.

I have installed rpm and source packages before with little trouble by following the guides available on the support site and wiki for centos.I am running centos 5.4 on a virtual server.I followed the guide for installing vpopmail at URL...mailSince this is a VPS server I cannot install gnome and is why I opted for vpopmail + qmail.
The first issue I have is: I don't know how to tell qmail to start up automatically because after the install of qmail from source as the guide told me to, it did not place a startup files in the /etc/init.d, and I can't find any useful documentation on how to trouble shoot that.I try to use "chkconfig qmail on" and "chkconfig --level 345 qmail on" but both give me the error "error reading information on service qmail: No such file or directory"The version of qmail I am using is the latest 1.0.3, and the version of vpopmail is 5.5.
Vpopmail seems to be working just fine, as is the mysqlauth mod. I check the vpopmail database in mysql, and all the values I used for the domain and user show up there.The settings also show in the qmail configuration directory files for the domain.My first clue as to something being wrong was that when I send an email to the address I setup, I get nothing delivered on the server, but I also do not get any bounce backs or errors to tell me the details of what went wrong.At first I figured it was my firewall, so I disabled iptables.That did not fix it.I also tried disabling SElinux. That also made no difference.

I installed apache 2.2 with centos 5.5. When I typed service httpd stop, apache stopped. Then in a minute, it automatic start again. I don't use crontab, and I tried 'chkconfig httpd off', but it still automatic start. I used 'ps -ef' to look process, I saw, httpd have PPID is 1, and then I find PID 1 have PPID 0.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to 'Places' on my panel, my windows drives are listed. I can click on one, it then asks me for password, then it puts a hard drive icon on my desktop. This is excellent.They are listed as '200 GB Filesystem' etc.My only problem, is how to make these icons stay after I shut down. I don't want to do this every time I boot up.

1 I managed to install kubuntu on it unfortunately it was the 64bit version not the 34bit one. The problem I'm having is that the external monitor only works after kubuntu boots up so I can not view the set-up boot options. What I want to do is put win 7 on it as I have a mate that needs a computer and he is pretty computer illiterate.
2:It will boot into G-parted and I have made a ntfs partition for the win 7 OS to go into. I have another duel boot desktop so followed what I did with that.The problem is that as I cannot see the initial start up screen and can get it to boot from the win7 boot disc that I have(this is a working cd I have used before) Is there a way I can get Kubuntu to automatically go into boot from cd on start up etc?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have configured heartbeat+DRBD on a SLES10 SP3 cluster and that's working fine except when both nodes are down and I turn on only one node. When this happens, the heartbeat don't starts automatically (the service status says it's unused, so the services, IP address and partition don't start automatically too).
I can turn on the heartbeat manually (service heartbeat start) and get the services, ip address and partition initialized too, but I'd like to make it starts automatically because it's possible to have one node broken and the person that will turn on the other node can forget to manually starts the service.
-When the heartbeat is unused on the first node and I turn on the second node, the heartbeat on the first node starts automatically and everything is fine.
-The command "chkconfig heartbeat on" was executed.
I installed dansguardian & squid on 11.2 and things seem to run fine. Squid auto starts but dansguardian does not. I have checked Yast2's runlevel services option and dansguardian is enabled to 'Yes'. But when i check with 'service dansguardian status' it reports 'unused'.If i start dansguardian by hand, things work perfectly fine.I am in a desperate situation since there are 4 other computers which are dependent on this setup to work correctly

When my computer starts up it shows a screen that says press any button to select another operating system to start, then I can make Windows 7 start. But after 2 seconds, if I DON'T press any button then Fedora starts automatically. How can I change this so Windows starts automatically when I don't press any button?

I just did a distribution upgrade on my laptop from 9.1 to 10.04, and it went fine for the most part except this issue. After it boots up, I don't see any window titles/scrollbars/borders and on clicking the icon for "Show desktop" on the bottom left, I see the following error message:
"Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager."
After googling a bit, I realized that gnome-wm is not starting automatically and so I have to manually start each time to see the windows working properly. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to make sure that gnome-wm starts automatically? I know I can put it in my .bashrc but I want to do it the correct way if possible. If not, I will have to go with that workaround.
After an upgrade to 2.6.27.25-78.2.56.fc9.i686 in March, my Atheros wireless stopped working. (It had previously run without a hitch for 9 months). Anyway, I finally got around to working on it today and using the "WiFi misery" thread managed to consistently get it to start manually via these steps:ifconfig wlan0 up

click on "activate" in network device control (gives error msg, but works)
During boot-up, I get "Invalid argument" errors for "SET MODE", "SET BIT RATE", and "SET ENCODE".Currently NetworkManager service is disabled, but when enabled doesn't seem to change any of the above.I'd like to get back to automatically coming up wireless, if possible.
Since I've updated to 9.10 my avahi-daemon sometimes won't start at boot.I've to "restart" it manually.I reinstalled it without success.Has anyone here the same problem? Or a useful solution?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just started setting up a linux box in the office...I have some experience with ssh commands but not setting up a linux system and stuff.The box is connected to our network but I have no clue how to make windows & osx talk with it. How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

Server has been moved to a different locations and so the IP has been changed now the hostname is changed to something other that what it was before.
Could it be the rDNS that is causing this?
