I have installed version of ntop 4.0.3 by guide.But I can't start ntop daemon/service. I didn't find a service file for starting.During the installation there was no problem only want to RRDTool so I installed that. Now there is no necessary package required.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have fedora version 8 with mysql 5.0.45 installed. I have also installed drupal. Recently drupal gave me an error "error code 28". When i checked it out it seemed to be with the db. When i tried to created a db (for testing purposes) in root...i wasn't able to. so then i tried to restart mysql ...it stopped but unfortunately i have not been able to get mysql back up...i get a message saying
"Timeout error occurred trying to start MySql Daemon".
In a previous thread I had detailed an issue I was having with avahi not firing up properly at startup.As a bit of background: the services available on the server aren't advertising until I restart the avahi-daemon manually after startup - The syslog shows the daemon starting on boot, but it never seems to access the service file.I was wondering if it is possible that this may be a file permission problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a script named ssh_inotify.sh to check /var/log/auth.log log file for newly started ssh session and display a question message box. This script uses inotifywait to monitor this above log file for modify file event and zenity to create question message boxes.Now i have created a startup service config file named ssh_inotify under /etc/init.d folder and placed the script ssh_inotify.sh under /usr/sbin and chmod this script to be executable.
The service config file ssh_inotify uses start-stop-daemon to run this script as background process.Now theproblem is that when i start this service using sudo service ssh_inotify start, the service is started, I can confirm this using ps -A | grep ssh_inotify also i can check for the PID associated with it under /var/run/ssh_inotify.pid. Now when i ssh to my machine, i do not get the question message box, I am writing in log file and in that i can see that the message under cancel button option for question message box is getting printed.This script runs perfectly when run directly or using start-stop-daemon command directly (exact command as typed in service config file above) on terminal, but not when this same command is executed using service file.Can someone please suggest me the solution and reason for such behavior when same command executed under different mode (using service or directly from terminal).If you guys require code, i can attach the files (currently i am in office so don't have access to these files.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed MySQL and I want the service to (always) start. When I google I always find the same answer; Goto System > Administration > Services. But I don have it. Administration for me goes from 'Printing' to 'Software Sources', so there's no 'Services'...
Also should I be able to start it from a shell, but I also can find that. (I have no /etc/rc.d/-directory and my /etc/init.d/-directory han no 'mysql'). I just started using Linux a few days ago (I only used MaxOsX and Windows before).
I have a service/daemon that won't start from boot. I have used the chkconfig --add <script name> command that went ok I also used the chkconfig <script name> on and that seems to be fine and I have made the script executable Chmod 777 <filename>. By all account it looks like the script is running at boot the the services has not started. When I do a ps -ef | grep ndb_mgmd this process is no there. the script can be run from the console and sems to run fine!

Recently i've upgraded my fedora 11 to 12 using the preupgrade command and now I have a problem booting! when i start the interactive boot it hangs after trying to run the service local, it looks as if its trying to boot because the cursor blinks really fast then blinks normally after a few seconds. no error was stated during the event. what seems to be the problem here?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a script that I want to run every time any user logs in (not only on the GUI, but also via SSH or via text terminal). The script will check if a daemon program is running (one per user or per session, haven't decided yet) and, if it isn't, will start it. I want this to be system-wide, not per-user. I thought about using /etc/profile (or creating a file in /etc/profile.d/) for CLI logins and /etc/X11/Xsession (same remark, Xsession.d) for GUI logins. My problem is that if the user uses a non-Bourne shell (e.g. TCSH) this won't work. Is there any initialization script that is run no matter what shell the user has?
