Does anyone know how i would be able to activate the internal sub-woofer on a Mac. I have sound, but no bass response. I'm trying to achieve the same sound quality as when I'm in OSX. The iMAC's sound card is built on top of the Realtek ALC885 chipset driven by the Intel ICH8 HD Audio controller.

I got a Gigabyte Gsmart MD800 3G/HSDPA Express card with a USB Adaptor. When you first connect it ... it picks up a CD-rom with the windows installation files and not the modem.
I followed the instructions here ...[url]
But the modem still does not appear in the network manager so i can create a Mobile Broadband connection using this modem.
For F10 patched. I'm in Honduras. The local cell / Internet provider that covers Guatamala, Honduras, El Salvador, uses an HSDPA modem marked "GBC" and is also known as the "China Bird". It's a black usb stick that looks identical to the option unit, but its definitely not an option modem.
lsusb lists it as 1c9e:1001 with no text after it. It automounts as a disk drive with typical Windows software on it. Nothing ever shows up in /dev/ttyUSB*, as I believe the disk mount causes it to not try mounting it as a modem. Dismounting it also does no good.
I recently got a HUAWEI E1630 HSDPA USB Modem and it was working fine until recently. Recently it starts to drop the connection and in /var/log/messages I can see a pppd error "Protocol-Reject for unsupported protocol xxxx". The protocol number is random. Only way to resume is to unplug and replug the device. The happens very frequently and hence the device is not usable.
To isolate the service provider end, I use the same SIM on a PROLINK HSDPA USB Modem and it works fine. Also I use a different SIM from another service provider in this device and the issue still exists.
I am on Kubuntu 10.10 with all the updates to date. Should I report a bug?
I'm trying to make a Huawei K3715 HSDPA modem work in Ubuntu 10.04.1. I plug it in, and it loads two mass storage devices (one CDRom containing the Windows software, and one 2GB drive that appears empty), but I don't really know where to go from here.
Note that I replaced the stock network manager with Wicd, as I find it more reliable in picking up wifi connections. I'm not sure if it's suitable for connecting the HSPA modem though.
I've been trying to get a USB modem stick to work with Karmic.The modem is the ZTE MF626 HSDPA on a Telstra Next G plan.I've followed all the guides and links on the forums:Have deactivated the CD autorun on the USB stick in XP lsusb is showing "Bus 002 Device 003:ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A." demsg is showing "usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1"This seems stable as well, ie checking periodically it doesn't seem to be disconnecting By the way,the blue light indicating network communication/modem active lights up after the device has been plugged in for a second or so.
When I go through Network Connections and add a new mobile broadband connection, there is nothing listed in the "Create a connection for this mobile broadband device" drop-down on the first configuration screen - all the guides I've read say that it should be listed here, but none say any debug steps if it doesn't.Some other guides for older versions of Ubuntu and earlier versions of the modem reference a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi"file which I don't have.
I have bought a so-called web'n'walk stick, which identifies itself as a "Globetrotter HSDPA Model". I managed to get it identified as a serial device (initially, it is detected as a USB drive), but I fail to get it working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10.04 alternate version recently. I am able to install broadcom STA wireless driver for model 4321. Even if it is listed under System>Hardware Driver, it gives me an error when I try to activate it. It asks me to read the file var/log/jockey.log.
I read the file and i found this:
/sys/module/wl/drivers does not exist, cannot rebind wl drivers.
BroadcomWLHandler Enabled(). knod disabled, bcm43xx: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted, b43: blacklisted.
New to ubuntu. I love the OS. Everything works great except for the network connection. It tells me I need to activate the b43 drivers with fwcutter, but here are the following problems:
1) I can't download and install the drivers b/c I can't connect to the internet wired or wireless.
2) I can't find the website to download the appropriate drivers (I've looked for hours)
3)I'm not too sure how to install them since I don't have a background in coding.
I really like ubuntu, I just need network working.
I cant get the STA driver activated. I keep getting the error:
Code:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Synaptic can't mount my install CD, maybe that has to do something with the problem.

My Network manager is missing (it is usually has a short-cut on the desktop-bar, which are monitor pictures, next to the sound short-cut). Does anybody know how to activate it again (terminal-based command or etc)? See my attachment, i made a circle sign on the missing network-manager.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an Ubuntu Live 10.10 (Maverick) and I'm trying to make my wireless Broadcom card to work. Installing Ubuntu on the hard disk there's no problem activating it, but unfortunately in the lately I'm working ONLY on the Live version (from a USB Flash drive).
Under Ubuntu Live I tried to Activate the "Broadcom STA wireless driver" but, after downloading, it returns an error saying a very few detailed error:
"SystemError: installArchives() failed"
... and I cannot understand where is the problem or what to do to solve it. I already tried to run "jockey-gtk" with "sudo" but it is not a permission issue. The error came out anyway.
Is there a way to activate the Broadcom BCM4322 driver in Ubuntu on a MacBook Pro 5.1? The instructions that I found should work, but don't.I am currently running 2.6.32-24 but would like to install the driver to the 2.6.32-25-pae kernel (the standard kernel uses only 2.7 of 4GB RAM). According to wireless.kernel.org this Broadcom driver is not supported. Do I have to switch to Debian? The other day I installed vpnc, and it works but only over the wired connection. AirPort in Mac OS works, so there is nothing wrong with the hardware.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFrom what I understand, this problem can be solved easily but you have to insert the install disc into /cdrom/, but I'm on an HP Mini 110 netbook and obviously don't have a cdrom drive. Is there some way I could redirect it to my usb or something? It doesn't seem to present the option. Every other release works with my wireless, but this is the only one that works with my sound lol so I'm damned either way. I still use 9.10 sometimes because I love it but I have to hook it up to an ethernet connection and that kind of defeats the purpose of having a netbook
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Linux Mint 8 Helena x64 Edition on Dell Studio 15 laptop which has Dell 1520 Wireless-N Mini Card. It does work when I boot from Live CD of Helena, connect to a wired network and download & install the proprietary drivers when prompted. But on the installed system, I am unable to activate the Broadcom STA driver. I tried completely removing and then reinstalling bcmwl-kernel-source and dkms packages from package manager.When I go to Administration -> Hardware Drivers and click on Activate for Broadcom driver, at first there used to be a window which said Downloading and it used to go away after few seconds and nothing used to happen. Then I installed few updates. At the time of writing, I have installed all the available updates. Now after clicking on Activate, I get this error :
