I was wondering where to find the drivers for my D-link adapter. It says on the box that it has Linux support, what does that mean? I have already used it without any drivers and it works for a bit but after a week or something it doesn't work anymore (it is connected to the network but no download). What should I do? Would installing the drivers solve the problem?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had Xubuntu 9.10 installed on my computer and everything worked fine, i could download and surf the net pretty fast, but all of a sudden i couldn't do this anymore. The adapter was still connected to the network but when i opened firefox it worked for 5 seconds and then it would not load any pages, and even synaptic couldn't download any packages, even though it was still connected to the network. So i tried to reinstall network manager but it didn't work, then something happened and i couldn't access my Xubuntu anymore so I decided to delete the partition and install Xubuntu 10.04. I still have the same problem. What should i do? I am sure it is not a problem with the adapter because it works on the Windows partition.
View 6 Replies View RelatedInstalled 10.10 using wubi. My wireless NIC is not detected in ndisgtk (although the driver: PRISMA02.inf is installed). The lights on the DWL-G122 are on normally while operating under Windows XP, but turn off after it's unplugged and plugged back in under Ubuntu.
EDIT: I've attached an image of my wireless NIC so you know what I'm dealing with.
I have tried to install tp link tf3200 network adapter without success . the os is 8.04 hardy loading drivers is new to me. the driver is sundance (i think) and the output from the make command is shown below.

I'm having problems getting the wifi to work on my toshiba satellite pro l40 (psl4be). My laptop has a wifi card built in but linux cant seem to be able to find it. I tryed following these instructions and i got this output:

as you can see its telling me i have no wifi card, even though i am fully aware i do. ive tryed using ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers of the ethernet adaptor but my wifi still doesnt work, im guessing ethernet has nothing to do with wifi.I intend to convert from windows, however if i cant get the wifi to work i can only see linux at a major disadvantage as i use my wifi alot.
My laptop is Gateway M-6335 and I have problems with wireless drivers. I couldn't find any drivers for it. I searched in Software Centre and tried to google it but it didn't work. I have also problems with Bluetooth driver, but it's an other story. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.
i have not mastered the finer art of installing drivers. I am trying to install a tp-link wireless adapter tl-wn321g which are green lighted but since i don't know how to install the driver.

As my internet browsing is somewhat up and down in load times, I decided to check in a video game which is generally a good test for me. haha I am harshly spiking and cannot find the source of my problem so my guess is a driver issue.

It is is seemingly right, my Windows 7 harddrive works just fine, this is just one last of the few issues I'm having from fully formatting my winblows HD to use as Linux storage.

I seem to be seeing some weird behavior in kubuntu with KDE 4.3.2 and KDE 4.3.5 for Kubuntu 9.10 32-bit.I have a few programs in my home folder. For instance Eclipse and Mendeley. it seems that when i create a Link to Application does not launch them. Here is how I create the links.
-> I right click and create a new "Link to Application"
-> I click on the Application tab and browse to where the shell script, or executable is.
and when I try to launch them it does not work. The link is using the absolute path. I tried setting the working directory and using a relative path but nothing. If I run the link in a terminal it says "Warning: Could not find" and the application I set. Now this seems to not be a problem for system applications like Kate. If i change the link to launch Kate it works perfectly.
Moving stuff from 9.3 to 11.3 I'm running into the problem that I cannot find libmysqlclient.a to link against c programs. mysql-devel provides shared (.so) modules only. Is there a repo providing this or do I have to install mysql-5 from source?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running uShare on my Linux 10.4.2 box to stream videos from my computer to my Xbox via Wifi. As the Xbox360 can only handle AVI files I'm trying to write a script that traverses through all my media at;
/media/Media/
Looking for AVI's and then linking to them symbolically into a directory called;
/media/Media/Xbox360/
I plan to set the script up as a cron job so it will constantly keep up to date. This is the script so far;

and the only file being created is .DS_Store, I think. One other caveat I've not yet been able to get my head round, is that from time to time I'll convert videos from say MKV using mencoder to AVI's and plonk them in the /media/Media/Xbox360 folder, and so when the script traverses all my media folders I need to get it to not link to files that are already in that /media/Media/Xbox360 folder.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to cross compile something and it requires a recent version of Boost. I'm using squeeze and gnome and my updates are all up to date. I could not get through the 'configure' stage with Boost dev packages from the debian repository, so I went to the Boost web site. I thought the package requires boost 1.44 or later, so I downloaded 1.45.0 from the site and proceeded to build and install it. I think I installed it right, using /usr/local/ as the prefix. Back at my main project, I try to configure my build and I get some of the following text and then the configure stops.

My Ubuntu WAS working perfectly. I started to tweak with the eye candy. "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm)." As I was reading some of the forums, I also thought I would give KDE a try and add it to my system. I was experimenting (so I don't know what exactly I was modifying) when at some point I noticed that in the upper right hand corner of my windows (where "minimize window, maximize window and close window buttons" exist), each time I went to click on the close window button, my system froze and I had to do a hard reboot. At that point, I uninstalled all things KDE. Still had the same issue. Then I uninstalled ccsm.
At this point, the maximize, minimize and close buttons were GONE!! I finally figured out, I had to RIGHT CLICK DESKTOP >> CHANGE DESKTOP BACKGROUND >>TAB TO VISUAL EFFECTS >> SELECT "NONE" This returned my system back to a useable state with the max, min and close buttons. Then I tried again to enable the effects, and suddenly my max, min, close buttons again disappeared. I also got a window that was searching for drivers. None could be found. I had to then turn effects off again.
After that, Ive been trying to completely uninstall and reinstall: drivers, KDE, ccsm, hardware drivers (jockey-gtk and jockey-kde). I tried installing each of them seperately, together, and in various combinations and now it seems like the more I try the worse it gets (before, it would search for drivers... now it just tells me "desktop effects could not be enabled" I know there is probably an easy fix to restoring my drivers... but I can't figure it out. It would be easy to just reinstall... but then I gotta go back to my IT person to add the network key at my work and redo all my settings. Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop
I just installed Ubuntu today and when I go to Hardware Drivers it tells me that there are no proprietary drivers on this system and doesn't show any for me to activate. Oddly enough when I was running the live CD of Ubuntu I got a list of a few drivers to activate, namely the Broadcom STA Wireless Driver and the NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver (version 185).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Acer Aspire One notebook, and first thing I did was get RID of windows 7 starter crap, and put on Ubuntu 10.04. Everything runs smoothly and works well except one thing, Ubuntu doesn't seem to recognize I have a battery, it behave's like it would on a desktop. This is really bothering me as I need to know my battery life and whatnot. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Im completely up to date, and I also tried booting up in the live version of 9.10 and it didnt recognize a battery either, i fear if i cant get this working I might need to use Win7 Starter...I was looking forward to Ubuntu.

Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding proper driver support for the ATI radeon x1200 as described by another poster:
You should still be able to get full 3D support for your hardware by downloading & installing the drivers manually.
This is where it gets complicated, unfortunately.
ATI dropped support for some "older" 3D devices some time back (actually not all that old in many cases - it made a lot of ATI card owners very upset). So I'm not sure which drivers you'd need to download & install to get your 3D hardware working.
The Radeon x1200 device in your notebook is, confusingly, not the same as a desktop Radeon x1200 card.
I am not sure if this is the correct forum but I trust the Administrators can move it if need be. I recently "Frankensteined" a computer together putting Ubuntu 10.10 as the OS. I have a ScanExpress S40 scanner and cannot find drivers for it nor does anything occur when I plug it into the computer. where I can find a generic driver that work.
