Ubuntu Networking :: Find D-link DWL-G122 Drivers?
Aug 14, 2010I was wondering where to find the drivers for my D-link adapter. It says on the box that it has Linux support, what does that mean? I have already used it without any drivers and it works for a bit but after a week or something it doesn't work anymore (it is connected to the network but no download). What should I do? Would installing the drivers solve the problem?

Jul 8, 2010I had Xubuntu 9.10 installed on my computer and everything worked fine, i could download and surf the net pretty fast, but all of a sudden i couldn't do this anymore. The adapter was still connected to the network but when i opened firefox it worked for 5 seconds and then it would not load any pages, and even synaptic couldn't download any packages, even though it was still connected to the network. So i tried to reinstall network manager but it didn't work, then something happened and i couldn't access my Xubuntu anymore so I decided to delete the partition and install Xubuntu 10.04. I still have the same problem. What should i do? I am sure it is not a problem with the adapter because it works on the Windows partition.

But, how would I just download this package to a usb drive so that I can transfer it to the laptop that needs wireless networking. Is there an option in yum where I can just download the package, not intstall, so that I can save it somewhere?
Ubuntu Networking :: DWL-G122-RevA2 Not Detected
Oct 18, 2010Installed 10.10 using wubi. My wireless NIC is not detected in ndisgtk (although the driver: PRISMA02.inf is installed). The lights on the DWL-G122 are on normally while operating under Windows XP, but turn off after it's unplugged and plugged back in under Ubuntu.
EDIT: I've attached an image of my wireless NIC so you know what I'm dealing with.

Ubuntu Networking :: D-Link DWA-140 Seems To Sort Of Work?
Mar 21, 2010I've got an oldish laptop which I've installed 9.10 on. I plugged in a D-Link DWA-140 USB wifi dongle to see if it can connect to my wifi router. It quite happily flashed it's light, and when I click on the wifi icon on the top panel it lists a bunch of wifi networks including my own. However, when I select my network and enter the passphrase it doesn't connect, and just keeps asking for the passphrase/key again

Feb 26, 2010I try to do wireless man-in-the middle attack with my ASUS laptop and I've alreay got two wlan adaptors, a built-in Atheros NE-785H and a TP-LINK TL-W322G USB wireless adaptor. Either of them is to act as a rogue access point (soft AP). The biult-in adaptor works well but I just can't get the TP-LINK working properly.

I'm running Karmic with 2.6.31-19, according to the Ubuntu help page it should work out of the box, but it just wouldn't work for me. I only got it working with ndiswrapper, which is clearly not what I want to use since it's not supported by aircrack-ng.

Sep 7, 2010Have tried methods from every thread I could find for past 10 hrs. Have tried installing rt3070sta etc.Monitored message log; appears that the driver isn't recognized, though the USB port sees that something is plugged in (when I plug in the adapter, and unplug it).All of the threads miss something; I can't get a wireless port listed under ifconfig no matter what I try. Seems that every method leaves out something (I guess because everyone's box is different in some way). Network manager doesn't help much. Downloaded Wicd, which does even less.I guess I could try ndiswrapper, but I'm scared away by the hundreds of pages I see on going that route; I'm almost certain it wouldn't work (1000 possible points of failure).Does anyone have a strategy to recommend?AM64 box, newly installed Edubuntu 10.04, ran update manager.

Dec 4, 2010i'd like to extend that ma intel wifi link 5100 is not detected no more after perform upgrade package( upgrade the kernel too ). when im using command 'lshw -C network' , there is appear to be detected, but not on command 'iwconfig' or even 'ifconfig' it just show nothin. also network-manager no longer show that ma wireless is work properly anymore.
the old kernel : 2.6.25-22 ( my wireless detected and usable )

Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible
Apr 26, 2010I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

Feb 5, 2010i installed the free PacketIX vpn client on my ubuntu 9.04. it created a virtual network adapter, i was able to configure and connect to the VPN service but when i add a default route to the routing table so that all internet traffic goes through the VPN, my internet connection stops working until i remove the line i added.

May 22, 2011i got a small problem: i have some old software that used to run under windows.now i run it under wine, and it does just fine. but i cannot make a link to my desktop. when i go to the file in the directory, i choose right mousclick and then make link. then i copy the link to the desktop. but when i run the link from the desktop: i get errors: all bunch of files were not found. It seems like the link is actually the exe file itself ? or that the link execute the exe file at the directory of the place where the link is (that is the desktop directory)

I have tried using 2 different makefile "examples" as a template, but neither worked. I am getting error saying "file1.cpp: no newline character at end of file". or something to that degree.
General :: Make A Symbolic Link Read Only?
Feb 2, 2010Can you make a symlink read only? I have about 100 users who all have a .login. They like to modify their .login, which is fine in most cases, but sometimes they do it wrong & it screws up a LOT of the things they are supposed to be doing. Because of this, I'm going to lock down all .logins & I thought, "wouldn't it be nice if we could modify one file & all users would get the modification?" So I'm currently testing having everyone's .login point to a central .login via symlink. It works fine, but it appears that the users can [re]move the link & replace it with a file, thus defeating the purpose. Can I lock down the symlink so the user cannot move or remove the link? FWIW, it must be a symbolic link (as opposed to a hard link) as the file it points to is on an NFS share (not the same file system).

Feb 17, 2010My wireless adapter stopped working randomly the other day. I think the last time it was working was right before I put the computer into hibernate for the first time. it stopped working even after restarting.modinfo p54usb shows (I'm leaving out information that seems irrelevant because I can't copy and paste without the internet, so I'm typing what I see from another computer)

dmesg | grep firmware doesn't seem to show any requests for firmware related to it. lsusb shows something like
