Ubuntu Networking :: EW-7711UTn Connection - Wireless Key Window Pops Up Again And Again And Again
Sep 6, 2010
I'm having problem getting my Edimax EW-7711UTn to work (I'm stuck with using the ethernet cable for now). The light flashes on it and it picks up wireless networks, but when I'm connecting to them, I put in the key, it tries to connect, but the wireless key window pops up again and again and again. I've looked up other threads about this, but none of the suggested methods have worked for me (I've checked to see if it's compatible, apparently it isn't, but people seem to have got it working before...) I'm using a Toshiba Satellite M40 laptop. $lspci:

I've currently got the beta of fedora 12 installed, hope to upgrade that once the final release comes out. I'm having so many problems getting wireless to work. I've got a edimax ew-7711utn wireless adaptor. It doesn't work. Really what I want is to take it back and get a wireless card that will work.

I am fairly used to Ubuntu, and i decided to try and change my login background (10.10) using the code:
sudo cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow,
and:
sudo unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow/gdm-simple-greeter.desktop
i later realized what i did and i tried to unlink the gnome-appearance-properties.desktop but no luck.
is there any way to stop the appearance properties from popping up at login, and to reinstall the gdm-simple-greeter.desktop ?

I have two external monitors connected to my laptop, one with DVI port and one with displayport port.
Now when I run something a new window always pops up in the monitor on the left. I guess it is set so a net window always pops up at 0, 0 pixel or something. I want it to pop up in the monitor on the right.

I recently installed the newest version of Songbird, it worked for two days. Now when I click Songbird, it tells me it's starting down in the Window List, but it never pops up. I've tried all three methods from here to install it afterwards... none of them I got to work. Anyone have a clue what could possibly going on? This is on Ubuntu 9.10(32bit)

Every time I reboot or shutdown my PC, the login window shortly pops up. The PC does shutdown or reboot normally afterwards. When I use the terminal to shutdown/reboot (sudo shutdown -h now or sudo reboot) all goes well. The PC is running Debian Squeeze with the GNOME desktop environment.

Just during the last three days, when running Update Manager, clicking Check, downloading all available updates, then Clicking Install Updates, the Downloading Files window pops up but it is blank. and it stays blank. The little rotating icon indicates something's going on but, NO. Nothing has happened, even after a couple of hours. Trying to close Downloading Files brings up a window to Force Quit. Then trying to close Update Manager has no effect. to shorten the story, finally a window pops up saying that the "AT SPI Registry" is not responding. I'm sure trying the same thing will not yield different results. I'm running 10.04.

I installed new version of Choqok 1.0 Beta3 (0.9.90). It works nice, but the notifications for new posts bothers me. With every timeline refresh, system tray notification window pops up informing me for new posts.
How to disable notifications for Choqok? I cannot find option in Choqok. However, I can disable application notifications in system tray options, but in this case some ugly little window pops on the top of the screen informing me for new posts.

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

This has already been asked, and answered here: [URL] but there is one problem, this requires a window manager, and network-manager. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Minimal with no window manager, and i want to recreate the exact effects of the second post in the above thread.
I have one desktop (Ubuntu 9.10 Minimal) with a USB wireless adapter (wlan1) and an ethernet port (eth0). I want my second desktop (also 9.10 Minimal; connected to desktop 1 via ethernet on eth0) to recieve the connection through desktop 1's wireless. I realize this is rather easy with network-manager, but I am not sure how to go about it through command line.

I installed all the necessary packages for the networkmanager-openvpn function to function. The openvpn-connection-setting are successfully imported into the networkmanger via the conf file but the apply button is grayed out, so that actually saving and using the connection isn't possible? Does anyone know, where the problem is? It's a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 after the upgrade from 10.04 sent the networkmanger down the drain.

I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.

As I mentioned on the thread title, I can not connect wilreless under awesome window manager,it can scan wirless, but just can not connect it. I am using
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "...." key s:"***"
or
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "...." key s:**** (I try both, neither of it works)
and I do some search, and trying
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid "..." key s:*****
it is not working as well.
So, hoping you can give any solution. I am appreciating your helping.
But, interesting thing is, under gnome, it wireless is pretty good, I have no idea how it could be, but just works fine.
btw, under awesome, when I typing nm-tool, it always indicate that wlan0 is disconnect.

I was going fine yesterday and today I logged on and it seems as if my packets are being bundled up and sent at once, because websites spend ages loading, then all load together at the same time, my IRC lag bar increases and increases then pops back to 0 around the same time the web finished loading.

I've recently been trying to resurrect an old laptop and so I brought a new HDD to replace its broken one. I then figured that Windows would probably be too resource hungry to run on the laptop and so thought I should try to run a Linux Distro instead but now I've hit a wall. I can't find a distribution that will install on this low a spec PC but also will enable me to use the wireless card I've specified, even though the card has Linux drivers bundled with it.

My old PC has new life thanks to Ubuntu 9.1. However, a few small problems still remain:
1. D-Link wireless adapter: My wireless connection percentage never seems to get higher than 70%, even though the wireless router is right outside the door. And to top it off, I can see other neighbor's networks and the signal strength is higher! I am running ndiswrapper if that helps, and the connection is WPA/WPA2, speed of 130 Mb/s which is great, but can I improve the signal?
2. If I leave the computer on and come back after a while, the monitor is black, and I can see that the wireless connection is still going, but I can't seem to "wake up" the computer. I have messed with the settings, but have not attempted anything in the terminal. Can someone provide a simple fix? I would like to Suspend or Hibernate, but they don't work (meaning, I can wake up the computer). So I have resorted to simply logging off each time, which works.
3. Watching streaming video using RealPlayer, many times the screen freezes, and I am unable to navigate to anywhere else on the computer. Meaning, the mouse moves, but cannot open, close, change, do anything on the computer. Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't even work to pop up anything. Is there a less abrupt way to Force Quit than holding down the power button on my computer and restarting the whole thing? I am sure that is not too good for the computer.

I had no problems using my dell mini with ubuntu wireless UNTIL i did a direct connect into my home network to download some updates. Now the wireless connection option has disappeared and only shows a wired connection in "network". Does anyone know how to get it changed back. Terminal no longer shows an eth1 but lists eth0 as the wired connection on ifconfig.
