I have two external monitors connected to my laptop, one with DVI port and one with displayport port.
Now when I run something a new window always pops up in the monitor on the left. I guess it is set so a net window always pops up at 0, 0 pixel or something. I want it to pop up in the monitor on the right.
Every time I reboot or shutdown my PC, the login window shortly pops up. The PC does shutdown or reboot normally afterwards. When I use the terminal to shutdown/reboot (sudo shutdown -h now or sudo reboot) all goes well. The PC is running Debian Squeeze with the GNOME desktop environment.

sudo cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow,
and:
sudo unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow/gdm-simple-greeter.desktop
i later realized what i did and i tried to unlink the gnome-appearance-properties.desktop but no luck.
is there any way to stop the appearance properties from popping up at login, and to reinstall the gdm-simple-greeter.desktop ?
I recently installed the newest version of Songbird, it worked for two days. Now when I click Songbird, it tells me it's starting down in the Window List, but it never pops up. I've tried all three methods from here to install it afterwards... none of them I got to work. Anyone have a clue what could possibly going on? This is on Ubuntu 9.10(32bit)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having problem getting my Edimax EW-7711UTn to work (I'm stuck with using the ethernet cable for now). The light flashes on it and it picks up wireless networks, but when I'm connecting to them, I put in the key, it tries to connect, but the wireless key window pops up again and again and again. I've looked up other threads about this, but none of the suggested methods have worked for me (I've checked to see if it's compatible, apparently it isn't, but people seem to have got it working before...) I'm using a Toshiba Satellite M40 laptop. $lspci:

Just during the last three days, when running Update Manager, clicking Check, downloading all available updates, then Clicking Install Updates, the Downloading Files window pops up but it is blank. and it stays blank. The little rotating icon indicates something's going on but, NO. Nothing has happened, even after a couple of hours. Trying to close Downloading Files brings up a window to Force Quit. Then trying to close Update Manager has no effect. to shorten the story, finally a window pops up saying that the "AT SPI Registry" is not responding. I'm sure trying the same thing will not yield different results. I'm running 10.04.

How to disable notifications for Choqok? I cannot find option in Choqok. However, I can disable application notifications in system tray options, but in this case some ugly little window pops on the top of the screen informing me for new posts.
I'm using openSUSE 11.3. I have a external monitor, and my setup is that when it is connected the panel is expended on the left. (Extended desktop)When I maximize any window in my external monitor, the window gets under the panel, instead of getting maximized properly. Is this a bug?I just tried to move the panel to my laptop's desktop, and the size of a maximized window in that screen gets adjusted properly. So I guess it is a bug related to the extended desktop

It fills the whole screen, and the font is tiny. I am able to enlarge the font, but not to change the window size. Under 11.2, I was able to set the font, and an 80 characters per line, 40 lines window, and then make all that permanent.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed opensuse 11.2 with a CRT style monitor. I replaced it with an LCD monitor and on startup I see the splash screen, but then then it blanks, and the computer locks up (no response to keyboard or mouse)with a blank (dark) screen - the monitor reports no signal.
If I hook up a CRT monitor it boots OK again.
Intel graphics chip onboard. How do I get opensuse to work with the LCD?
(This is dual boot system - either monitor works fine with windows xp)

I have desktop effects on and window shadows enabled. The main windows don't seem to follow this, nor does any taskbar pop-ups when you hover your mouse over them. I even set the shadow settings to high/annoying settings but I only see it on context/right-click menus.
I don't like the blue shadow because it is too light, but I can't seem to find where to change it. This seems to also apply to in-active windows as far as the size of the shadow but with a gray shadow instead. Still, if the desktop effects were effecting this, then the shadows I see should be large. Plus, desktop effects only give you one color choice with it just being darker on the active window. How to change this?
the solution of my monitor is much to small. So I tried to find out, where I can change the settings of my graphic card and monitor. Unfortunately opensuse only gives me the possibility to change it up to 600x800, which is by far too small. So I thought maybe I need to install a driver... so... there I am ... having question marks around my head and wondering how to install a graphics card driver on my opensuse 11.3.???
And where to find the right ones?
My graphic card is a Matrox Mystique (no 220 or anything else!!). I checked the website of Matrix to find my drivers, but it tells me that there is no driver planned for linux. I have a dual monitor setup in Ubuntu, with my main monitor on the right and the monitor I want to extend to on the left monitor, but I can't seem to get it to do this, it always has the 'desktop' on the left monitor and then extends onto what I want to be my main monitor. I got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
I have my desktop displayed on two monitors. I have a chat application that opens a separate dialog window when I click on a contact.But this new window does not open on the same monitor as the contact list window.Is there a way to force all child windows to open on the same monitor as their parent?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I run my dual monitors with twinview on an NVidia GeForce 8400GS when I maximize a window it does it as you would expect (on one monitor) and when a pop up comes out of an application or when I bring up Synapse it appears in the center of my monitor. However, when I add a third monitor as a separate X window, the behavior of the windows on my dual screens becomes very different. It maximizes across both monitors, and Synapse opens with the center between the two monitors.Any thoughts on how to fix this or why it would change?

Everything looks great, but the system monitor window is all lines and fuzz. I don't even know where to start looking for a fix.
I run Natty 64x (new install) and have setup to use two seperate x servers and no xinerama. When I start my computer everything seems fine on both monitors but once desktop is loaded and I start an app in the second monitor, I can't type anything and the window borders are missing. If I type "DISPLAY:=0.1 metacity" the problem gets fixed but I get an error that a window manager is running already.
I have AMD/Nvidia, GeForce 8800GT.
I am wondering if it is possible to have programs remember which monitor they were last placed on when re-opening them?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just rebuilt my fedora box and I'm having some problems getting dual monitors to work. First, I can't reposition my secondary monitor to be on the left. It thinks it's on the right. I can use xrandr to fix this, but that is annoying. Is there no way to do this in the display properties? Second, maximizing a window makes it go across all screens. I unchecked this option in the display properties.I also unchecked the one for letting windows be in multiple monitors at once, but this still happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using AWN for years, having a startup script to run multiple instances of AWN and position it on each monitor correctly. This has worked fine but today I decided to upgrade the version of AWN. The only problem now being that the new version doesn't support multiple instances of AWN to be open at once.The new version of AWN does have an 'Add dock' button but that's no good as my setup isn't Xinerama so each monitor is it's own workspace, meaning I can't position the dock far left, because far left is the edge of the current monitor.
The ideal solution here would to be able to run multiple instances, as I can force each instance to a monitor with DISPLAY=0:1 etc.If anybody has any ideas on how to have AWN on each of the 3 monitors then please let me know.
This is a triple-monitor setup with two video cards, where the mouse pointer gets "stuck" if it tries to cross from one video card to the next one. It worked correctly in openSUSE 11.2 and doesn't work in openSUSE 11.3 with the same xorg.conf. This is a 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 with xorg 7.5-11.3 (the openSUSE prepackaged version). I've already tried NVidia drivers 256.53-16.1 (the openSUSE NVidia repository version) and 260.19.12 (the latest off of the NVidia website).
This is the same xorg.conf that I used successfully in openSUSE 11.2. I tried a new automatically generated xorg.conf using nvidia-settings and it had the same problem. This forum won't let me upload the relevant files, but here: [URL] is a tar-ball with my xorg.conf, Xorg.*.log, /var/log/messages, and the NVidia debugging output.
just setup suse 11.3 , put on the Nvidia 19.29-22.1 drivers via yast , no kms is set in inetd , nomodeset on grub boot line etc... Even tried installing the driver " the hard way " dual monitors come up, setup xinerama to "Extend" my desktop , and the main monitor ( right side ) is good, visually the left monitor (2ndary) is good.. but whenever I move my mouse over to the left screen the mouse pointer dissapears, flickers along the right hand border of that screen... and if i move the cursor back to the original screen i have to really fight to get it back to the main screen....Copy of my xorg.conf , still very basic...

I have just installed Os 11.3, it is my first time to try Linux. Install went fine have Dual Boot Win7 and openSuse 11.3 KDE I have a 26" TFT TV as Monitor 1 DVI and Dell 16" as Monitor 2 VGA all working fine . Autoconfig started and TV display vanished, install finished and went into display settings to check problem and for some reason it is saying both displays are on my 16" Dell. I will Add Screen Shot to show problem. wanted to switch to Linux for years but never had the guts, i was hoping to learn Linux with this distro and when have a grip on it drop windows and use Linux as Primary.
