Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Company Sharepoint Via Vpn?

Oct 5, 2010

I am attempting to setup my home ubuntu-box (10.04, 64bit) to vpn into work (cisco). My attempt has been partially successful - connecting successfully to shared drives - but I can't access the internal company sharepoint site (using network-manager-vpnc). When I enter the URL into firefox, it tries for a few seconds then displays the "connection was reset" error page (see attached). I don't even get the normal pop-up dialog asking for my credentials! The URL is resolvable to an IP, and the server can be pinged successfully.

So, to make sure my home network wasn't to blame, I brought home a work laptop with a windows vpn client. This worked fine.I then went to work with Ubuntu-NR on a USB stick and booted up into ubuntu to make sure ubuntu wasn't to blame. This worked fine

CentOS 5 Networking :: Unable To Access Company Vpn?

Mar 8, 2011

I am trying to access my company VPN using my Centos 5.5 laptop. I have the vpn client certificate issued by my company's IT dept. I am able to access the webmail using the same certificate which I installed in firefox. But I would like to know how to use this certificate to sign in to the VPN. Some of my colleagues use the Cisco VPN client v5.0.? software and the vpn client certificate to login. It works fine. But I would like to do the same with Centos.I tried connecting using vpnc. I converted the pcf file to conf using pcf2conf. Converted the certificate to .pem file. I replaced the /etc/vpnc/default.conf file with the pcf2conf converted file. Following is the converted conf file:

IPSec gateway example-vpn.companyname.com
IPSec ID <groupid>
IPSec secret <groupsecret>

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To .local Hosts / Websites On Company Network (DNS)?

Jun 27, 2011

Problem:Your company network has internal only hosts / websites with names that end in .local, e.g.Your freshly installed Ubuntu machine works fine on the network, has internet access, etc. but cannot connect to these particular systems.Testing DNS with tools like dig / nslookup works fine, but normal name resolution with ping / telnet / browsers does not work.Solution:1. Open a terminal window2. Enter the command sudo nano /etc/nsswitch.conf3. Change the following line:hosts: files mdns4_minimal [notfound=RETURN] dns mdns4to this:hosts: files dns4. Press Ctrl-X, Y, Enter to saveExplanation:Ubuntu ships configured to do name lookups for self-configuring networks, based on the AppleTalk / mDNS / Bonjour protocol. In the configuration shipped for the resolver, this protocol is considered the final aurhority for the ".local" top level domain, and DNS will not be checked. The above configuration change eliminates this and restricts lookups to (a) /etc/hosts file, followed by (b) DNS

OpenSUSE Network :: Install A Mail Server For The Company?

Aug 18, 2010

I was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.

Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)

From the vm guest I can ping/ssh to other machines in the network, but not the other way around. It's like even though the guest machine has an ip address on the network and a hostname, neither is recognizable.

Ubuntu Networking :: Local Company Site Is Invisible / Visible It?

I have the problem with Ubuntu to access the local site within my company network. This network has access to Internet, but the company's site does not have a public address. It is like "http:e-learning.local". I can access this site from any windows machine, but I can't access it from ubuntu. Only if I use IP address, I can access it. However, I have normal access to other sites on the Internet.

Do you have any suggestion how to solve this problem?

Two of the printers (an HP LJ1300 and a Dell 5200) eject the receipt paper automatically; the other two HP (a LJ 4200 and a LJ2420) do not eject. You have to press the green button on the printer. Is there a solution to that? They are all set up with the same PCL settings.

Ubuntu Networking :: No Network Access On 10.04?

Aug 18, 2010

I purchased an Acer Aspire 7745G yesterday and installed Ubuntu as soon as I opened up the computer.

There appears to be a big problem however. Neither the wireless nor the LAN / ethernet are working.

'ifconfig -a' gives two items: lo and pan0. I believe pan0 is the bluetooth.

The wireless icon at the top right says "No network devices available". Network Tools shows the same results.

If I plug in an ethernet cord, nothing happens.

This is a fresh Ubuntu 10.04.1 downloaded this morning from ubuntu.com. I tried installing three times (USB, CD, DVD) including data checks on the disks. Same problem all three times.

I am guessing this is some kind of driver issue, but since I have no Internet access, I cannot do a Ubuntu Update and have Ubuntu find the drivers for me.

EDIT: The wireless and ethernet are working in Windows 7.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Network Printer?

Jan 23, 2011

I recently installed Xubuntu 10.04 on a desktop computer. Everything works fine aside from the fact that I can't access my Dell 3010cn network printer. The printeis accessible and work flawlessly with every other computers running XP, Vista and Ubuntu 9.10I installed the drivers and configured the printer with the exact same parameters as on my 9.10 laptop. The thing is that the printer is always "offline" as if my computer could not connect to it. Also, when I try to acces its options via its fixed IP adress (192.168.1.107) through Firefox, I cannot reach the printer. However, the printer responds to every other computer in the house. What am I doing wrong? Is there a firewall in 10.04 that keeps me from accessing to the printer?

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up Network - Can't Access Any Other PC

Apr 23, 2011

I can communicate to Windows perfectly (Internet sharing, file sharing, printer sharing, etc), but Windows controls everything, and I can't access any other Ubuntu PC, or host a printer or Internet connection. I have been fighting Samba for quite a long time, and I finally am able to access Windows shares from Ubuntu, but I want to host the shared folders (and everything else) on Ubuntu instead, because I have a bigger HD on it, and it is just a faster computer.

I tried personal file sharing and shared folders, but it doesn't work. I am also not able to access other Ubuntu PCs in the network, for printing, remote desktop, or file-sharing. All the computer are connected to the same Ethernet router. I'm using XP Home SP3, Ubuntu 10.04 x64, and a laptop running 11.04 beta 2.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Internet Via Ad Hoc Network

I want to connect to a wireless open ad-hoc network to have internet access. It worked a while ago (1/2 year or something) but some update must have messed something up so it doesn't work any longer. Situation: There is a laptop that is running windows 7 and is connected to the internet via cabel. I want to connect with a second laptop that is running ubuntu 11.04. I can find the network and connect to it.

Problem: I cannot get any internet access while being connected to the ad-hoc network. So my questions are: how can i find out if what causes the Problem? I suspect a driver issue, but I'm not sure. required information from Howto post a wireless issue:

Previously, in Jaunty, I had a similar problem.I found a workaround: launch Pidgin. Somehow, launching Pidgin temporarily edits my configuration. However, in Karmic, I have no access to Pidgin, however, and Empathy does not do the same thing.
