CentOS 5 Networking :: Unable To Access Company Vpn?

Mar 8, 2011

I am trying to access my company VPN using my Centos 5.5 laptop. I have the vpn client certificate issued by my company's IT dept. I am able to access the webmail using the same certificate which I installed in firefox. But I would like to know how to use this certificate to sign in to the VPN. Some of my colleagues use the Cisco VPN client v5.0.? software and the vpn client certificate to login. It works fine. But I would like to do the same with Centos.I tried connecting using vpnc. I converted the pcf file to conf using pcf2conf. Converted the certificate to .pem file. I replaced the /etc/vpnc/default.conf file with the pcf2conf converted file. Following is the converted conf file:

IPSec gateway example-vpn.companyname.com
IPSec ID <groupid>
IPSec secret <groupsecret>

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Access Company Sharepoint Via Vpn?

Oct 5, 2010

I am attempting to setup my home ubuntu-box (10.04, 64bit) to vpn into work (cisco). My attempt has been partially successful - connecting successfully to shared drives - but I can't access the internal company sharepoint site (using network-manager-vpnc). When I enter the URL into firefox, it tries for a few seconds then displays the "connection was reset" error page (see attached). I don't even get the normal pop-up dialog asking for my credentials! The URL is resolvable to an IP, and the server can be pinged successfully.

So, to make sure my home network wasn't to blame, I brought home a work laptop with a windows vpn client. This worked fine.I then went to work with Ubuntu-NR on a USB stick and booted up into ubuntu to make sure ubuntu wasn't to blame. This worked fine

CentOS 5 Networking :: Unable To Get Internet Access To 5 Server

Jan 17, 2009

I've installed centos 5 on an old computer with success and it works great.I can access the web server hosted on the centos server from any computer on the wireless and wired local network. I can also use ssh (putty) and nx client from any computer on the local network (wired and wireless) to access the centos server. On the wireless router I've configured a port forwarding to the wireless network interface on the centos server. I can access the centos server from the outside (internet) through this port forwarding both through http and ssh or nx client.MY problem is that I can't access the centos server from the internet through the wired network interface. Any attempt to view a web page or login with ssh or the nx client will timeout.

Networking :: CentOS 5.5 Box Unable To Access Live Web Service On Interwebs

Oct 27, 2010

From my office and home, I can access a web service, no problem. However, from my server at the data center, I cannot. Could this be a DNS issue? I've tried with iptables enabled and disabled. selinux is disabled. This server has multiple network interfaces, one public and two private. The public has a WAN IP address (1.1.1.1), the private is 10.1.10.2 and the other private is connected via crossover cable to another server 192.168.100.1. I think route -n tells me the WAN interface is used to access the internet, as its gateway is my ISP's upstream gateway. CentOS 5.5.

Ubuntu Networking :: The Phone Can Access The Internet Through The Computer Unable To Get Access To Https Sites, Like Webmails

Dec 31, 2010

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following

----On the phone---

-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.

-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.

-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"

----On Ubuntu 10.04---

-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server

-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.

-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.

-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd

-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).

-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"

-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.

-Apply policies and start the firewall.

------------

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:

1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.

2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.

So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Gain Access To Server Locally?

Jun 30, 2009

We have a server were we no longer seem to be able to gain access, neither locally or remotely. When we try to connect via SSH we get a "Connection Refused". We have checked that it's not our standard firewall blocking the request, so it can either be the local firewall (which we disabled when installing) or that the process isn't running. However, when we try to login locally on the machine (as root) all we get is "Login failed". We've tried restarting the machine in single user mode to change the root password, and while we can do this succesfully, it still doesn't give us access when rebooting the machine afterwards. No other users (besides the standard users created when installing) are available on the server, so we can't say if this is a problem with the root account, or with logging on in general.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To .local Hosts / Websites On Company Network (DNS)?

Jun 27, 2011

Problem:Your company network has internal only hosts / websites with names that end in .local, e.g.Your freshly installed Ubuntu machine works fine on the network, has internet access, etc. but cannot connect to these particular systems.Testing DNS with tools like dig / nslookup works fine, but normal name resolution with ping / telnet / browsers does not work.Solution:1. Open a terminal window2. Enter the command sudo nano /etc/nsswitch.conf3. Change the following line:hosts: files mdns4_minimal [notfound=RETURN] dns mdns4to this:hosts: files dns4. Press Ctrl-X, Y, Enter to saveExplanation:Ubuntu ships configured to do name lookups for self-configuring networks, based on the AppleTalk / mDNS / Bonjour protocol. In the configuration shipped for the resolver, this protocol is considered the final aurhority for the ".local" top level domain, and DNS will not be checked. The above configuration change eliminates this and restricts lookups to (a) /etc/hosts file, followed by (b) DNS

CentOS 5 Networking :: Internet Access Slow In CentOS 5.3?

I have an MSI K9A2 Platinum mobo, which has a 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet Realtek 8111B built-in, a D-Link DIR-655 Router and a DSL modem. Compared to Windows Visya and other Linux distros ( Fedora 11, Suse 11.1, Mandriva 2009.1 ) access to the internet is much slower. It seems there is a noticeable delay when running CentOS 5.3. before internet access kicks in each time I am surfing the web or updating my system.

Is there any way I can speed things up, or determine why CentOS 5.3 seems much slower ?

Server :: Unable To Access Samba Share On CentOS 5.4 From Windows XP Or Vista

Jan 23, 2010

I can't be the first one with this problem. What am I missing?

I have setup Samba servers in the past, just none under SELinux. The last one I configured was a couple years ago, so I wouldn't doubt I'm a bit rusty.

---- Environment summary:
Clean server install of CentOS 5.4 includes SELinux
- lets call this 'server'
- updated samba to 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1

Client1 - Windows XP sp4 - WINS configuration uses 'server' noted above
Client2 - Windows Vista - WINS configuration uses 'server' noted above

---- What works / what doesn't ------
Clients can see the server (XP and vista) in network neighborhood.
The following does not work from windows (xp or vista)
net view
net view \server
net view \server-ip
net view \servershare

This does work on the server
smbclient -L \server
smbclient -L \server --user validuser
smbclient -L \client1 --user validuser

---- What I have configured and tried (config/output below) --------
firewall ports for samba are open
SELinux enforcing or permissive
file context is set on share
samba booleans are set

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Some Nfs Shares

Jan 13, 2011

At, or around, the time of upgrading from Lucid to Maverick, shares on some of my nfs servers have become inaccessible:

Code:
peter@Desktop:~$ ls /net/10.2.1.21/
opt
peter@Desktop:~$ ls /net/10.2.1.21/opt/
sybhttpd

[Code]....

The share is hosted on a PopcornHour Network Media Tank, running a Linux system. With Lucid, I was able to access the share without any problems, both in Nautilus and from terminal. I can still access the share from other nfs clients - it's just ubuntu/Maverick which exhibits this problem. I have tried reverting to older firmware on the PopcornHour but that doesn't make any improvement.

Was there some significant change in nfs with the Maverick release, or have I misconfigured something?
