Ubuntu :: Network Manager Removed Form Panel / Put It Back?

Nov 6, 2010

I was attempting to move the buttons on my panel and ended removing my network manager (did it by right clicking it and selecting "remove from the panel").
Now all i want is to put it back but i don't know its command nor where it is to use the "add to panel" feature.
Anyone knows how to put it back?

I've read several howtos that I've to add notification area but it doesn't really work.I know that if I delete this user and create a new one the icons will be there again but I'd like to do it cleaner way. This is how it should look like (untouched user account):And this is what I've done :-/Network icon is missing in both accounts (removed by accident while trying to remove something else :-/ in user "tata" it at least shows sound button.

SUSE / Novell :: How To Switch Network Manager From YAST Back To Efault Network Manager?

Mar 2, 2010

I had trouble connecting to a wireless network with openSUSE, so I tried the YAST network manager to see if that fixed it. Not only did it not fix it, but now I cannot connect to any network, wired or wireless. I tried to open the default network manager and it said "Network management disabled". How do I re-enable it?I also have set YAST settings back to their originals with no luck.

Ubuntu :: Apt-get Removed Network-manager?

Nov 16, 2010

I was going to arping something the other day and found it wasn't installed. So I used sudo apt-get install arping. It went through fine, I was arpinging happily. I shut down for the night, and then this morning, I couldn't connect to the internet. I do some searching around and get eth0 added to me /etc/network/interfaces correctly, and I'm back online, but I can't see the network manager to connect to a wireless network; not a big deal since I have a dock here, but I might want to go on the move.

So, I start looking around forums and in the process of following some of those guides, I find NetworkManager is not installed! I get it installed and everything managed properly again. My system is working as intended. But now I'm curious what happened, so I start looking at some of the logs in /var/log. Then I find this in /var/log/apt

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Network Manager Not Visible In Panel?

Dec 16, 2010

New to 10.04, not to Ubuntu. Fresh install of 10.04, recommended proprietary nVidia driver installed because text rendering in Firefox is terribly with the 'standard' non-proprietary driver. Also new to Vodafone / Huawei modems. My previous experience with a Vodafone modem (type unknown) was with 9.04 when I helped my daughter-in-law fixing her Windows computer. It worked out of the box from the live CD and she is now a happy Ubuntu user

Optimistically, I recently bought a Vodafone K3765 modem as backup for my standard internet connection. I eventually got that to work after installing the USB mode switcher. So no it works out-of-the-box experience here Problem:The network manager (I assume that is what it is called; little antenna with signal strength indicator is not visible in the panel (right top). It is there but it's only one pixel or so wide (at occasion a one pixel wide vertical line occurs at the position where it is supposed to be). So when I want to connect I have to click a number of times in the panel till I hit it and the menu shows. Once it is visible, it will stay visible till the user logs off.

Ubuntu :: Network Manager Missing On Panel?

Feb 14, 2011

For some reason when I booted today the network manager icon to disconnect and connect to different wireless networks was missing. I've read various post and have been unable to resolve this issue. Here is what I've tried.

1. Clicking in Add Panel and adding network monitor. This seems to be not included on the list of choices.

2. Clicking in Add Panel and click the Add Notification choice. This didn't seem to add anything to the panel.

3. Remove the Notification area and then re-add it. Did this and not the area is blank except for my dropbox icon. I don't have the date, logon or logoff dropdown, or network manager icon anymore. I've rebooted several times.

I can't connect to my wireless network anymore. Is there another way to manager wireless connections other then that panel tool?

Ubuntu :: Network-manager Disappeared And Won't Come Back

Feb 5, 2011

For some reason, I can't get network-manager to appear on the task bar so that I can edit the connections. Also, network manager doesn't appear in system/prefs menu. if I try typing at the terminal 'sudo nm-applet" it says "An instance of nm-applet is already running. ** (nm-applet:9074): WARNING **: <WARN> constructor(): Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager." If I inspect the system | preferences | startup apps , network manager is selected with the command "nm-applet --sm-disable".

I can see "network-manager" shown in /etc/inid.d but "sudo network-manager" gives "command not found". Anyone know what I have to do to get it working ? Uninstalling and re-installing hasn't worked. I have tried installing Wicd and that shows Lan & wireless connections ok but it *doesn't show my usb data-dongle* which I've just got working using the very useful application UsbModem_Switch by Draisberghof .

So the workaround for me is to call that connection manually ( if I need to use the usb data-card dongle ) with the command "sudo usb_modeswitch -W -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/0471:1210". However, if I can get the network-manager applet thing to show up and use that it would be easier. Or is there a better alternative to Wicd which can handle usb data-card modem connections ?

Ubuntu :: Network Manager Icon Isn't Visible On The Top Panel?

Jul 15, 2010

I have had a bit of experience with previous distros but I am pretty much a newbie. So I setup 10.04 but I can't get my net to connect. It's working fine on Win7 (posting from it). It's a dsl connection. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the net.

I opened terminal and used the 'sudo pppoeconf' command and followed the instructions. This is how I used to get my net working on previous distros but it dosen't seem to work in 10.04. The terminal says that my connection is active but it isn't. The network manager icon isn't visible on the top panel.

I'm assuming this can be done easily enough as Linux Mint LXDE has got it, or Network Manager at least. i need NM to easily start my Mobile Broadband dongle's connection. Also, can touchpad tapping be turned off in LXDE, and how? I have it set up to have no tapping in regular Ubuntu but this is undone when I boot LXDE.

Add to panel-->Notification area....beacuse the notification area is already there..

the only way that I can make the visible is by typing code...

for volume control.. Only then they become visible in the notification area

Both, the network manager and volume control are mentioned in the "Start-up programs"

Slackware :: Plasma Netbook In 13.1 - Goes Back To The Desktop Form Factor

Jul 4, 2010

After falling out with KDE4.2.4 and using fluxbox for a while, I was sufficiently impressed with my experiments with KDE4.4.3 in slackware 13.1 that I decided to go back to KDE. In particular I'm keen to use plasma netbook on my eee pc 1000H.

But I've hit an annoying snag. The problem is that if I set it to use plasma netbook (System settings>Desktop>Workspace>Form factor>Netbook) it works just fine for the rest of that session but next time I startx it goes back to the Desktop form factor.

The strange thing is that this didn't used to happen, it only started recently and to the best of my knowledge I haven't made any other significant changes or updates to the system. I tried removing the ~/.kde dir and letting kde setup from scratch but that didn't help.
